Listener comments!
9:19am : 2947! Those were the days.9:45am : Good morning Bob
I finally listened to your premium this week, and I like it a lot. Thanks!9:47am : Groove on brother Bob! ( I wonder if Mike Curb ever had lunch with Jimbo??!!?)9:47am : Bob, Robot Monster is second only to Plan Nine From Outer Space (Ed Wood) and if you're a fan of worst-movies of all time, better add The Creeping Terror to that list. And there is a more recent movie that has been getting similar "acclaim" and when I finally saw it had to agree, "The Room" (2003) is right up there. Not a monster movie though.9:58am : 'teenagers from outer space' is pretty bad. the monster is just the shadow of a lobster.10:00am : oops, that was my comment above. 'the giant gila monster ' sia good one. giant creature, nitro glycerine, teenagers in hot rods and a singing time out at the malt shop.10:02am : giant gila monster one of the best movies ever shown on mst 300010:04am : Congratulations on 35 Years!10:06am : 'them' probably the best of the giant-creatures-due-to-man's-folly-of-nuclear-fallout genre.10:07am : love to see a playlist from 35 years ago mr. deejay. how have your tastes evolved?10:10am : Didn't bob denver die about 5 years ago?10:12am : RIP Maynard G. Krebs, also reprised a similar role in Ride the Wild Surf under a name like Ho Daddy.10:12am : Borscht,10:17am : wasn't he in how to stuff a wild bikini? i'm only half paying attention so i apologize if that was already said. the old kiev had decent borscht. never liked their kafka though, tasted like bulgar wheat and cigarette butts10:23am : @dale, you should have tried their kasha!10:29am : Utopia doesn't get the respect they deserve.10:30am : Good morning fr California, Bob. Your set is chock-a-block with good stuff today.
Robot Monster is one of those little marvels that define the Psychotronic ethos. The monster in question - a gorilla suit topped by a metal diving helmet - was portrayed by Ross Martin, later the sidekick on the Wild Wild West tv show.
If you haven't got it already, I can't help but think you'd enjoy Electric Eden, a lengthy monograph on the UK folk-into-rock scene by Rob Young, my first editor at The Wire. THe chapter on Nick Drake is the price of admission by itself.
The Utopia track is a potent reminder of how much Rundgren's singing changed in time between "Runt: The Ballad..." and the early '80s. To the latter period, all forte, all the time.10:32am : @ tomb - d'oh! that's what i meant. having dinner with kafka after a night at the aztec lounge or pyramid would be interesting though10:35am : Bob Denver died in 2005. That's when his obituary ran in The New York Times (and many other places). That's when he died according to virtually every source online. Anyone who says he died just recently is wrong. Period.10:36am : Hi Bob. I missed the Utopia track, but I saw Todd last night. He was amazing.10:37am : What did you think "the pivot" referred to? A basketball position?10:37am : http://www.bobdenver.com/10:38am : It is funny how people seemed to have forgotten Bob Denver died, and it's news again.10:40am : I noticed in alt.fan.cecil-adams someone about a week ago dredged up a Bob Denver obit with the date stripped off. Another 5 years, they can do it again.10:49am : I just heard John Denver died, too!10:50am : "Walkin' My Cat..." Love this song. Norma, as you no doubt know, also wrote "Earthbound Gypsy," the source of a truly singular Dusty Springfield cover version.10:57am : remember 'the good guys'?10:58am : still have my Good Guys buttons!10:58am : Well, if you listen to the context in the lyrics, it should be pretty obvious what "the pivot" refers to, but if you like basketball, I could see getting caught up in that. ;)10:58am : "My Mother The Car"10:59am : Happy 35th Bob! Here's to many more...11:00am : I have all sorts of misinterpret'ns of lyrics I've heard correctly but still misconstrued. Sometimes I prefer my misconstrual.11:00am : Least funny show ever: George Lopez11:02am : Can you still continue to comment after the show is over?11:09am : yes.12:26pm : apparently so...10:10am : And even a couple of weeks later...?9:01am : And now, almost a month later...?9:00am : And...?9:41am : Happy New Year!
