Catskill Flooding Relief update With Terry Doyle and John Savory of WIOX Community Radio in Roxbury, NY.

I should mention my connection to Roxbury. My dear friends Karen & Rick Neblung bought a house in Roxbury some 15 years ago and live there year round., My husband Peter & I spend weekends with them several times a year. Rick also hosts a show at WIOX and was instrumental (along with station manager Joe Piasek) in bringing program hosts together to populate the new station's program schedule. John Savory is another old friend of mine, living in Margaretville with Karen's sister Sue. My cousin Chris & his partner Victor, not knowing these other folks, bought a house and a large parcel of land in Roxbury a few years ago. It is a lovely area and our favorite, restful getaway from New York City.

Live performance by Les Chauds Lapins

Les Chauds Lapins (“the hot rabbits”), lead by New York’s Kurt Hoffman and Meg Reichardt, specialize in a repertoire of French swing from the 1920’s through the 40’s. The group has re-arranged long-forgotten French classics for banjo-ukes, string trio, guitar and winds, mixing the rootsiness of early American jazz with the lushness of a Bernard Hermann film soundtrack. They dropped by WFMU to play live.

Hi Irene!
I just realized that I got the wrong premium for my WFMU donation; I meant to get "Irene Trudel's You'll See Me in Your Dreams", but got something called "Amanda" instead - what shall I do?
Regards,
-Laura

  12:47pm
dale:

this happened in 95 or 96. you have to question rebuilding without some kind of flood control plan, and then the dec would have to get involved
  12:50pm
?:

@Wild...I got here late, who sounded like the Cocteaus?
  12:51pm
Julie:

hey! that ? was me...grrr
  12:51pm
annie:

this subject is a huge one, this dec thing... and the ability of landowners to steward their own land in relation to the flooding is greatly hampered.. huge mess of who gets control of this precious land which holds the nycity watershed.. and then the fracking is getting passed. and on and on and on..
  12:52pm
annie:

(i'm done)
  12:53pm
Julie:

Fracking has such an appropriate name
  12:54pm
G. Field:

i saw this group at the knitting fracktory in 2010 and boy what a catastrophe
  12:58pm
still b/p:

Cocktail Twins...wasn't that the Bush daughters for a while?
  12:59pm
annie:

(ok, one more thing: if this resort gets built.. what about run-off from future rains pouring down the mountain from the acres of asphalt being laid. so damn short-sighted, but oh wait, it'll bring low-paying jobs to the oppressed low-landers..tax rates will skyrocket and on and on and on.ok,now i'm done. i promise)
  1:01pm
Wild Neil:

Short term money trumps everything...for many....
  1:01pm
G. Field:

annie you're giving us more to chew on than a fresh lasagna.
  1:06pm
annie:

YES!!!!! that's us.. morgan started that.. hamden inn has a facebook
  1:07pm
Wild Neil:

Geez, couldn't they plant a lot of trees to help contain these floods in the future? Here's and idea-GRAVEL parking lots, they would drain better...just compact the snot out of them...this would be a good project for any civil engineers out there...compare and contrast? Of course, it would need to be compacted enough to withstand snow plowing...but still, gravel would drain through all those acres of surface...have goats patrolling to eat all the weeds that try to grow through...
  1:07pm
Julie:

yay for Yair Yona!
  1:13pm
annie:

@neil: :-D
  1:16pm
