  3:02pm
G:

What, no dots?
  3:02pm
G:

It's the end of the band as they knew it, and they feel fine. I'm probably the 10,000th person to think of that.
  3:04pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

i lost my religion years ago
  3:05pm
Wild Neil:

Hello Irwin!!!You Rock!!!
  3:05pm

  3:13pm
PMD:

  3:15pm
Wild Neil:

I wish the douichebags in my office would simply leave...
  3:16pm
Jeff Lynne:

  3:20pm
douichebags:

  3:21pm
G:

Kings of Leon have abdicated
  3:21pm
Parq:

Must be something wrong with the signal; Irwin is breaking up.
  3:22pm
Jeff Lynne:

  3:22pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

  3:22pm
Wild Neil:

  3:23pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

take it easy on that meth creamer, Neil
  3:23pm
trjijsh:

A sound for sore eyes.
  3:24pm
Carmichael:

Wow, pleasantly surprised at the choice song offerings thus far, Mr. Chusid.
  3:24pm
Ike:

That was a funny mic break. But the music of Kings of Leon doesn't even register enough with me for me to object to it. And yet, I get ticked off when subjected to most "adult contemporary" radio.
  3:25pm
ex-Kings of Leon:

Stop trashing our band, or I'll drive my car into your house
  3:26pm
Jeff Lynne:

Yeah Ike, just bitch slap them Kings
  3:26pm
Kings of Aragon:

@KoL: We'll f--- you up, suckas.
  3:26pm
Jeff Lynne:

may the pigeons poop on the kings again
  3:27pm
Maria T:

In the thick of work, and for a moment I said to myself, "Oh, here's a Belle & Sebastian song I can enjoy!" until I realized what it was. Thx. Good tunes. You almost made me like B&S.
  3:27pm
juli:

do you think nick drake would have ended up sounding like neil diamond had he ...
  3:27pm
Jeff Lynne:

no like elliot smith
  3:28pm
Jeff Lynne:

hag he not studied guitar
  3:35pm
Carmichael:

Interestingly (or not), a lot of the orchestration on Drake's music was done after his passing, or in the studio after he finished recording. I've always wondered how much that changed the music as he saw it.
  3:36pm
blackgreen13:

Hey all. Irwins ripping it up!
  3:37pm
Kings of Aragon:

What if he actually saw it as being orchestrated by someone else? Many pop musicians have no to minimal input into actual hands-on orchestration.
  3:40pm
dukes of blizzard:

i think he would have been turned into a joke
  3:43pm
dukes of blizz ard:

like they did to jim croce
  3:48pm
glenn:

a/ jim croce was crappy straight out of the gate. b/ nick drake didn't sell anywhere near enough records for anybody to try to make him in to anything other than what he was.
  3:50pm
ex-Kings of Leon:

We tried to get Jim Croce for our band, but he was dead.
  3:51pm
dukes of haz matt:

i guess so ... you have to be market-able
  3:53pm
Carmichael:

How old are you, Glenn?
  3:54pm
glenn:

fiddy.
  3:55pm
Bacon:

Irwin sat in grilled salmon.
  3:55pm
Ghost of Jim Croce:

I don't like you either. Fae skata kai psofa re malaka.
  3:56pm
Wild Neil:

Maybe you have tiny pieces of grilled salmon coating your nostril hair...so perhaps you should use nostril hair shampoo and conditioner?
  3:56pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

hold the Blake Shelton, I'll just have fries
  3:56pm
G:

Which posters today identify with this lyric?

Can you post a drinks count?
  3:57pm
glenn:

apu pisu, muni.
  3:58pm
Carmichael:

Really? Hmmm ... Seems you and I differ on the relative merits of messrs. Croce and Drake. I'm slightly older, but not much.
  3:58pm
Carmichael:

After last night, I'm relating AOK.
  3:59pm
glenn:

i love nick drake, i can't stand jim croce. or harry fucking chapin, for that matter.
  4:00pm
G:

unknown? I can't believe someone hasn't rushed forward to take credit for this performance.
  4:00pm
Wild Neil:

Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
  4:01pm
Carmichael:

I'm right there on the Chapin sentiment, although I hold a soft spot in my soul for Croce.
  4:01pm
dukes of haz matt:

its clay pigeon right ???
  4:01pm
?:

it's such a fine line between funny and . . . creepy
  4:02pm
Dickie Normus:

Yeah what he sang
  4:03pm
PMD:

It's hard to write a business letter when Amanda is playing.
  4:03pm
Carmichael:

Amanda is the Pete Seeger of her generation. Everything one needs to know about life can be found in Let's Get Plastered and Raid Circus World.
  4:04pm
Carmichael:

It's hard to do your business while Amanda is playing.
  4:05pm
Maria T:

DYING. "Take a running leap!"
  4:06pm
glenn:

this is worthy of perusal. http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/health/weight%11loss-water-firm-told-to-remove-ebola-virus-
  4:06pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

this always gets me going
  4:08pm
Swinging London:

Alternate Album Title: "Barrett at the Gates of the Closed Ward"
  4:11pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

I can make fun of most rock folks, but not Syd
  4:13pm
Jeff Lynne:

Any REM since the breakup, sorry i was in the bedroom crying over REM
  4:14pm
Wild Neil:

Poor Syd, made a lot of bad decisions...
  4:15pm
Bev Bevan:

I'm thanking the Lord on high that REM finally packed it in. Wow, were they the worst, or what?
  4:15pm
Swinging London:

Yes, that was the point of the comment, Wild Neil...
  4:17pm
Major Label Suit:

Summer 2012: Eagles and REM co-headlining tour. Biggest grosser of the summer. In every sense of "grosser".
  4:17pm
Jeff Lynne:

How dare you Bev! Are you a Toad the Wet Sprocket fan?
  4:20pm
Roy Wood:

shut up, the bof of yas
  4:24pm
Bev Bevan:

Can't say I've heard TTWS, not that I've actively avoided them. I am barely a The Move fan, Jeff. And despite my affiliation with the group, I've only been an incidental ELO fan, having owned at most, once upon a time, a bootleg from the group's heyday, and having heard them live three times, every one a winner. Little Feat opened for them--I mean, us--on one tour. Lowell George's Little Feat!
  4:24pm
"Take Ecstasy":

Different arrangement from on the original release. Hence on "Obscurities".
  4:24pm
Bev Bevan:

Right, Roy.
  4:25pm
Jeff Lynne:

This song not to be confused with "Take Soy Milk With Me"
  4:27pm
Jeff Lynne:

Is this the proto-Jeff Lynne!
  4:29pm
glenn:

is exaltation the collective noun for larks?
  4:32pm
Carmichael:

This sounds like Jane Siberry.
  4:34pm
Bev Bevan:

"A fanciful name for: A flight (of larks). Obs."--OED
  4:35pm
glenn:

jane siberry changed her name to issa. i don't get it either.
  4:45pm
Nordens fåglar:

Johnny richard, good stuff..
  4:45pm
Carpet:

I love being vacuumed during the long track!
  4:46pm
glenn:

forbade.
  4:46pm
Carmichael:

Ya, I know Glenn. She's always been a little flighty. I think she finally flew the coop.
  4:47pm
Tax Accountant:

Forgotten about? That loss was a great deduction for us.
  4:49pm
moose:

i think jane changed her name back
  4:49pm
AM Listener:

You know what's a million times worse now than even Dan and Joel commercials?

Any fucking LifeLock spot.
  4:50pm
darue:

In December 2009, Siberry notified her fans that she had recently changed her name from Issa back to Jane Siberry
  4:50pm
glenn:

well, she sold everything she owned, including musical instruments and beautiful house in downtown toronto, dumped her boyfriend of 20 years, and moved to vancouver because "she wasn't growing as an artist", as she put it. she's not flighty, she's absolutely batshit crazy.
  4:50pm
Irwin:

@AML: No, it's the KARS4KIDS jingle. EXCRUCIATING.
  4:51pm
glenn:

she made some great music, though, so i forgive her.
  4:51pm
AM Listener:

O yeah, that's been around so long my brain knows to stop listening within a half second of when it comes on.
  4:54pm
moose:

jane's a sweet kid
i have a cassette somewhere of when she came to the old station
  4:55pm
glenn:

i'm sure she was losing a lot of sleep over what i thought.
  4:56pm
Parq:

The FoW track just played, and the others they performed on Shelly that day (along with the interviews) are available as download freebies on the Free Music Archive. A word to the wise is a penny earned.
  4:57pm
Carmichael:

I've always liked her, but I do know she's kind of a wack job. That's what makes her music unique, but also what probably makes her difficult.
  5:01pm
glenn:

now mary margaret o'hara, there's a very cool woman who's made some great music and is as sane and grounded as they come.
  5:02pm
Carmichael:

Despite being Catherine's sister ... :-)
  5:05pm
abby:

i saw mr doughty in august (?) at the UCB; it was great.
  5:06pm
Lizardner Dave:

RE: Doughty's "everyone likes what I did two years ago" comment, I think this is his best studio solo record. His best solo record over all is "Busking" which I think you can only get at his shows.
  5:06pm
Mike East:

good tip, Parq. That was a great set.
  5:07pm
?:

He's touring now w/ a full band, check it out, he's a great live act
  5:08pm
Nordens fåglar:

:) good music
  5:08pm
Carmichael:

At the risk of ridicule, I don't know who he is. I looked at his homepage under Bio, but it really just says what he's doing now. Previous bands? What part of the world?

I do like what I hear.
  5:10pm
glenn:

no ridicule. i don't know either, but if i had to venture a guess, i'd say...... soul coughing?
  5:14pm
Nordens fåglar:

a player from Tellus, happened to be around at the time of a Good Climate (just like the rest of us right now), and we do like what we hear, soul surfing
  5:18pm
Lizardner Dave:

Yes, he was in Soul Coughing. The end of the band was about as far from amicable can be. Basically he doesn't talk about it though I imagine he will in the book.
  5:22pm
Mike East:

I used to love Soul Coughing in 7th grade. I remember that was like as cool as it got. Was bummed they split, but Mr. Doughty seems to be doing just fine. Diggin' the set.
  5:34pm
RD:

I loved Soul Coughing. Personally, I would also love to hear Mark Doughty cover the Magnetic Fields' 'Reno Dakota". Can ya get him to do it, Irwin?
  5:40pm
glenn:

aaah. open c sharp. my favourite tuning.
  5:45pm
"Music of Your Life":

Sorry, our audience died or forgot ho work a radio.
  5:46pm
"Music of Your Life":

how to work a radio
  5:47pm
glenn:

ho work on radio is quite appropriate
  5:52pm
darue:

what band was that you were talking about toward the end of the interview?
  5:53pm
Bad Ronald:

Beautiful set. Well engineered. Thanks to all involved.

@Darue: Drink Me
  5:54pm
darue:

hey... LORD I'M TIRED AND WANT TO GO HOME by the Golden Gate Quartet 1949
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUrzRXLdW00
