Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Listener comments!

  6:12pm
CLAY:

hELLO
  6:12pm
hubba:

Take your mask off...
  6:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hey Clay!
  6:13pm
hubba:

Hey Clay... glad you're covering this situation
  6:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

The "psychedelic" Four Seasons!

There seem to be a lot of anti-elites protests or rallies in NYC, at least you seem to cover a lot of them.
  6:14pm
Matt from Springfield:

Besides the wars we've had protests in DC usually at annual increments, the IMF/World bank used to have big protests, but they've kind of been rendered irrelevant by the Financial Collapse/Recession.
  6:15pm
Jim:

This Lehman guy sounds like Stan.
  6:15pm
CLAY:

i like that 4 seasons record matt
  6:18pm
phillip:

You should of had the creepy laughing guy in the background on the last giggly guy Clay.
  6:18pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Clay: I may check that out.

"Rich"? the Anarchist reminds me of the Yippies, even kind of sounds like Abbie.
  6:19pm
Ant:

The most prevalent tone of a Dusty Show interviewee is incoherent shrillness. Somehow I keep coming back for more.
  6:19pm
CLAY:

Rich is a lovable anarchist.
  6:20pm
dale:

hey clay, wanted to say i LOVED last weeks digi-dusty a to z show. i was in the car so couldn't comment.
  6:20pm
CLAY:

ty dale. appreciate that.
  6:21pm
Jim:

I'm against genocide and slavery, too. Small world.
  6:22pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Ant: Love the incoherent shrillness! But this shrillness is quite coherent, at least you can tell which ideas Rich is trying to communicate. Wonder what kind of life experience led him to hold the views with such conviction.
  6:23pm
Getting Interviews:

Going to gatherings of extroverted "unique" people gets you more interview tape faster than looking for talkative subjects randomly one at a time, "retail", on an average stretch of sidewalk. But incoherent shrillness can come along with gatherings of the unique! :-)

@Wondering Matt: A certain %age of crazy girls go for that!
  6:24pm
Jim:

You really like War, huh?
  6:24pm
david:

As long as I listen to the Prez in a bed of Clay, I don't get so mad...
  6:25pm
Ant:

@Matt Right. Maybe revise to "forceful shrillness"? also, that keyboard backing track earlier reminded me of a Robert Ashley piece. Clay, are you familiar with his work?
  6:26pm
CLAY:

i was just saying that to lulie, jim
  6:26pm
clay:

nazareth
  6:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Getting IVs: Heh :)

GooooOOOO WFMU Fans!
  6:31pm
david:

lol sounded like a 180 on I-know-Ayn-Rand BAI guy...
  6:32pm
dale:

i recognize that focus segment
  6:32pm
clay:

i never even mixed this show down ... just raw tracks ... hoping it doesn't freak out. longest comment drought in dusty history.
  6:34pm
Matt from Springfield:

Yeeeowch! Texans going on the record saying Rick Perry is not a strong man!

Nice people there. Texans like them give a GOOD name to their state! :D
  6:34pm
Matt from Springfield:

And Jules, of course! But she's lived in NY for years! ;)
  6:34pm
clay:

this guy wouldn't stop eating
  6:35pm
Night Al:

I like the raw mix effect from this show. Have the PC speakers panned a little left. Sounds cool!
  6:35pm
Listener John:

Was that the Beatles song "Revolution" sped up a few rpms?
  6:36pm
clay:

john, that was from a label called modern sound in nashville probably a 99-cent beatles imitation lp
  6:37pm
Getting Interviews:

I can hear him eating, yum... It's realistic, though. I wonder if he eats through client phone calls too, because THEY CAN HEARM HIM DOING IT.
  6:37pm
Listener John:

Thanks for the info, Clay!
  6:37pm
Night Al:

The music is coming through louder in the left speaker. So I panned left and juiced the volume. The interview is up in the right speaker. Nice!
  6:39pm
clay:

i love this timmy thomas song just a man, his organ, and a drum machine
  6:40pm
dale:

didn't realize sade's was the cover.
  6:43pm
slab:

sometimes I can't help but feel that a lot of people engrossed in causes to the point it takes over their whole life and blood it seems like they are in a cult.
  6:45pm
Night Al:

Thu Sep 22 6:11AM WSW to NE sighting opportunity for the ISS Can't miss it. Takes 6 minutes to pass. ... http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/sightings/cities/view.cgi?country=United_States&region=New_York&city=New_York
  6:45pm
jk:

is this hard panned left music right recording?
  6:48pm
david:

Defend-ants. We should get that going again.
  6:49pm
Fredericks:

Right!
  6:49pm
dale:

night al, so we already missed it?
  6:51pm
clay:

jk - it might be. you're the second person who's mentioned it. i was dubbing vinyl through my dual-cassette deck to my laptop, sometimes it sounds like instruments are missing. I'm figuring it all out slowly. Tried to go analog this week and it was like driving a model t

ke instruments are missing.
  6:51pm
clay:

oops
  6:51pm
dale:

i believe we can't express our opinions if the people who don't want to hear it have more money and control the police. sadly i'm starting to believe that you are guilty unless you can afford to prove you are innocent.
  6:52pm
clay:

taking calls in a while 201 209 9368
  6:54pm
Getting Interviews:

Clay has an extra hour tonight after the recording ends, that's right!
  6:54pm
chris g.:

great show clay
  6:55pm
clay:

ty chris appreciate it
  6:56pm
david:

we need a translation from Fabio.
  6:56pm
slab:

one thing that has baffled me for so long is that in this country there are so many fragmented activist groups most cult like but we can't get together as a majority labor force, because most all people in this country work. and we are dissed so much as workers even though the majority.
  6:57pm
chris g.:

the music/background is quite captivating.. digi dusty rocks
  6:57pm
clay:

it's larry fact synergy from the lp 'cords' passport circa 77
  6:58pm
slab:

we are headed to just like the Mike Judge movie Idiocracy, perhaps. But even quicker than what the movie had for a timeline.
  6:58pm
clay:

larry fast ....
  6:59pm
clay:

the little f-ups and glitches and bad edits are killing me
  7:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

@slab: I just read an article where the writer said that Mike Judge was being "charitable" to place Idiocracy in 500 years--at least in our political system, it took less than 5 years to get to that point.
  7:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

Flying Lizards!
  7:01pm
jk:

panning this show is fun

i also learned my speakers have been in reverse for a pretty long time
  7:01pm
Jullie:

<3 the flying lizards
  7:02pm
Jim:

I remember listening to Tomita and Synergy when I was in high school.
  7:02pm
Matt from Springfield:

Is this "Money" a 12", or a repeated loop?
  7:02pm
clay:

i have sony speakers shaped like conga drums with seat pads on top
  7:03pm
clay:

12" matt i looped it some
  7:04pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks! Love it---consider it for your sound fx "toolbox"---totally catchy, rhythmic, really brightens up an interview!
  7:04pm
clay:

there was a real estate guy cool guy and i accidentally erased his footage if you're reading this sorry
  7:05pm
Greg from Va:

Ahhh, the sweet revolutionary sounds of the MC5, gets my fire going anytime I hear them. Thanks for including them in your show on the Wall Street interviews, great fit!!!
  7:05pm
chris g.:

clay i don't hear any f-ups... interesting to hear you hear them....
  7:06pm
clay:

  7:07pm

  7:13pm
chris g.:

i suppose we all are julie... (our own worst critics) i mean..
  7:14pm

  7:15pm
clay:

i wish i'd interviewed more protestors than people on the perimeter i guess i was subconsciously sticking with my age group
  7:16pm
Matt from Springfield:

Agree with Chris G, great show Clay! And, tonight you don't have to worry about cutting these interviews to under-60.
  7:17pm
depressed Persian cab driver:

@ david- I liked that union guy's words. But the real test of someone is whether they do right even when nobody is looking (Congressman!)
  7:17pm
clay:

  7:18pm
Jim:

Mott's apple juice?
  7:18pm

  7:19pm
chris g.:

matt from springfield i keep thinkin' of 'The Simpsons'... springfield i mean..doap!
  7:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

D'ohpe!
  7:23pm
slab:

yeah, Clay. It would have been more entertaining making fun of and listening to the yunkters thinking cult like about beliefs. But I am enjoying listening to some of the oldsters like labor leaders who make sense and are intelligent. And believe in 'Merica! and admit that it is F'd up but don't give up. Pleasant to hear.

Wow, someone kinda famous, well it has always been my dream to be stopped by you Clay to do an interview when you come to DC to cover an event. When you stop me, I'll say, "Im Greg from VA" and you'll say, "Ive heard your name before, are you famous?" and I'll say .....
  7:28pm
Matt from Springfield:

Clay on the Move!
He used to walk while interviewing/recording in some of the older shows.
  7:28pm

hello, Clay. I am Super K DJ from the past. You may not know this until it happens but you were Super K DJ back in the 1990's. Once you reach that time, I assume you have not time travel yet, if you decide to go back in time, you will see your past self as Super K DJ. Do not be alarmed. slab:

I always wonder about how the culture is at wfmu and if comment boards are discussed. Is it quantity versus quality at wfmu? as far as dj competition, and how is it decided? Like, station manager Ken can have one million posts from baffoons, but maybe someone serious like Mr. Finewine might have three intelligent posts relevant to his show and the topic of his excellent ability to find fine 45's to play.
