Listener comments!

  11:50am
Brian in UK:

Hello Amanda, done it. Small but perfectly formed.
  11:51am
Amanda:

Brian, you know how to make me happy. YAY and THANK YOU!
  12:02pm
Alf from Upstate:

50% more Amanda!
  12:03pm
Amanda:

Hi Alf! I know, it is just as exciting as when they started making King Sized Reese's packs.
  12:04pm
Alf from Upstate:

But sweeter. And less tooth decay.
  12:04pm
listener james from westwood:

i have brought a 3rd-hour housewarming gift in the form of a pledge.
  12:05pm
Amanda:

Talk about sweet, lJ! Awwww. I appreciate so much you.
  12:07pm
Lizardner Dave:

Pledge made in loving memory of Word Twist.
  12:08pm
Amanda:

Lizardner Dave, you rule. I still have the Word Twist button on my sidebar and click on it by accident from time to time! <tear>
  12:13pm
Amanda:

I am getting over an autumn cold. You listeners' kindness to this show is really buoying my spirits! And the DayQuil is also!
  12:14pm
listener james from westwood:

everyone's coughing at my gym. i'm slowly mastering the art of not breathing while on the treadmill. anaerobic aerobics.
  12:15pm
Doug S.:

So far only buoys had commented. Where are all the gulls?
  12:16pm
Amanda:

Let's see if we can get any nice ladiez to comment, I hope we can. I will be playing plenty of songs about them!
  12:21pm
Amanda:

I read somewhere that something like 90% of all colds occur in either October or March, when the temperature changes.
  12:23pm
Lizardner Dave:

By the way, it's not quite the same but:
http://games.yahoo.com/console/tx
  12:28pm
Alf from Upstate:

"You're so vain..."
  12:30pm
Amanda:

Haha, yep
  12:33pm
pgw in mntclr:

ah, more "inception"-esque spacetime craziness, huh?
  12:34pm
Amanda:

pgw, I am sorry to confuse and fascinate you so much with my constant time travel.
  12:39pm
pgw in mntclr:

mainly, i appreciate the reminders during the breaks, since they remind me not make any song requests on the board. i wouldn't want to be "that guy".
  12:41pm
Amanda:

No, it is ok if you want to make song requests! I can make a big show of refusing to honor them.
  12:49pm
pgw in mntclr:

haha!
  12:49pm
Joe D.:

SHE MOST CERTAINLY CAN
  12:51pm
Doug S.:

Amanda won't ask for your pledges, but I will. What a freaking fantastic addition to the WFMU family Nazario Scenario is. Amanda is a walking billboard for WFMU's "real people doing real radio" aesthetic. She sounds like she's been on the FMU airwaves for years, so it's hard to forget that Nazario Scenario has been on the air here for only about six months. If everyone listening right now donated $10, it would give a magnificent jolt to the pledge thermometer atop Amanda's playlist. JOLT THAT THERMOMETER!
  12:53pm
Amanda:

Hey, thanks so much Doug! xoxoxox! I will get more obnoxious about asking for pledge dollahs as the month wears on. :-)

Joe D. knows that "Hey Joe" and also "Joey" by Concrete Blonde are both about him. But I won't play them either.
  12:57pm
listener james from westwood:

and don't forget to mention the fund drive in general, and your fave djs in pertickler, on your social networks. anything to get the word out to folks and the dollahs into fmu!
  12:59pm
Amanda:

Yes! Listener James's words should be taken to heart by everyone!
  1:01pm
Amanda:

This Ween song is about 10 minutes long. Enjoy!
  1:08pm
ndbob:

afternoon amanda and everyone!
  1:09pm
Amanda:

If I can get serious on you all here for a moment: WFMU is my favorite person, place or thing in all the world and it deserves your money. In the case of most of you I'm preaching to the choir, because Give the Drummer Radio listeners tend to be hardcore WFMU fans, but I know that 1. there are plenty of others and 2. hardcore fans should be contributing most of all because they know how important freeform radio is. Give! All October long! I'd love to see a big groundswell of support for the stream.
  1:10pm
Amanda:

Hi ndbob! Happy Shock & Rock to you
  1:11pm
ndbob:

:)
  1:14pm
Doug S.:

It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out what <3 means. To me, it looked like a tipped over pregnant cow.
  1:17pm
Amanda:

Yes, I had the same problem! In most fonts it really doesn't look like what it's supposed to.
  1:17pm
Brian in UK:

How's about pledging Amanda to sing or not!!
Pledge first.
  1:19pm
Brian in UK:

Doug, I'm not with it. Greater than three. Enlighten me.
  1:21pm
Doug S.:

No way, Brian. You've got to suffer like I did. Let's just say we all <3 Amanda's show and leave it at that.
  1:23pm
ndbob:

the henry gross song "shannon" is about carl wilson's dog
  1:23pm
Brian in UK:

Old English Sheepdog I believe.
  1:24pm
listener james from westwood:

<3 to this copy editor always looks like greater than three.
also, amanda: perfectly pitched. fmu is more of a family member to me than most of my actual blood kin.
  1:24pm
ndbob:

I know a couple of Alison's named after that song
  1:26pm
Brian in UK:

This is Meghan territory.
  1:26pm
Fiveash:

"Geoff"! Pronounced like "Cheops".
  1:26pm
ndbob:

and the doowop song "gloria" sung by the cadilacs and many others
  1:28pm
Brian in UK:

Have you ever seen a goofy scientologist?
  1:30pm
Van:

Late! Hi Amanda & listeners.
  1:31pm
Amanda:

ndbob -- how sad! The Alison of that song does not seem particularly fortunate.

Brian -- I don't know, Tom Cruise is quite goofy, isn't he? And yes, Martha My Dear was an Old English sheepdog. There's a picture of her in the Ram album art I think?

That "Geoff" song is so funny, it's like, "Geoff, you better be off..." etc.
  1:33pm
ndbob:

Yep Amanda - I think it's a case of parents liking the song but not really listening to the lyrics.
  1:33pm
Amanda:

Hi Van! Nice to see ye!

@lJfW, thanks for that kind note. I'm here on the playlist in the company of some of my best human loved ones and forced to tell them that I love WFMU more. You can imagine what it's like for me.
  1:33pm
Doug S.:

Just $70 more in pledges will bump Amanda's total up to the 20% threshold. Remember that when you make a pledge, you don't have to pay it immediately. Just make the commitment now, then pay when you can. Please BUMP it up in honor of Amanda and her superlative show!
  1:34pm
Brian in UK:

Don't tread on that dwarf; hand me the pliers.
  1:36pm
ndbob:

I see that Bert Jansch has died.
  1:37pm
Van:

Okay, done my good deed for today :)
  1:38pm
Brian in UK:

Add Jackie to Scotts' list
  1:40pm
Amanda:

Hooray, Van! Thank you so so so much!!!!

ndbob, I know -- this is the downside of doing a not-live show but I'm sure there will be lots of tributes to come...
  1:43pm
Amanda:

You listeners are the GREATEST and I am so happy!!!
  1:46pm
Doug S.:

Now one mighty handsome pledge of $32.50 will elevate Ms. Nazario to the lofty 25% perch. Please LIFT her higher!
  1:47pm
pgw in mntclr:

apparently the Monkees' Valleri was a response to "Don Kirshner's early-morning request for a "girl's-name song" to be used in the Monkees's television series"
  1:47pm
Van:

So, first 3-hr show? This is GREAT news...overdue!
  1:49pm
ndbob:

nice version of "darlin' corey" here
  1:49pm
Van:

Oh and I saw that, ndbob, about Bert Jansch. Love the Pentangle for many years. Hope Irene does a segment tribute to them when (if?) she is back on!
  1:53pm
Amanda:

Van -- Irene will be back for sure! She has a bunch of special programs planned, including Matthew Sweet late in the month (AWESOME).
  1:54pm
pgw in mntclr:

is his name "Iron Nick"?
  1:57pm
Amanda:

I wish!
  1:58pm
Van:

Good news about Irene thanks...was just joking out of frustration because of 2 weeks in a row of no Irene.
  2:03pm
Amanda:

It's so cool that we are almost to the 25% mark, which is exactly where we should be for the first one-fourth of the month. Can we get there???? Seriously, I'm so grateful for all your contributions thus far.
  2:05pm
Alf from Upstate:

If Doug's math is correct, that'd be two $16.25 pledges. Each would qualify for some WFMU swag I do believe.
  2:07pm
Eugene:

I have dreams about the WFMU public performance space sometimes.
  2:08pm
ndbob:

I need to go.. ty for the great music Amanda!
  2:09pm
Amanda:

Thank YOU ndbob! See you next week!

Eugene, I don't know if I could ever contain my gladness if there was a WFMU performance space.
  2:13pm
Van:

Wow. It just occurred to me that us listeners and you, dear DJ Amanda, have entered a whole new era in our relationship! We have never been together at this time of day, to my knowledge...have we? Look forward to discovering where it all leads. :)
  2:15pm
Amanda:

Never! Every other Wednesday I've been down in the record library by now, re-shelving CDs. This is a strange and frightening new time.
  2:15pm
Brian in UK:

Amanda, the front page does not know that you are now three hours old.
  2:16pm
Amanda:

Oh all right, thanks for the heads-up
  2:18pm
Van:

I thought that at this time every other Wednesday, you would be normally ravenous with hunger, diving into lunch!
  2:19pm
Doug S.:

I had to wrassle an 11-foot gator out of the way, but I got to the frontpage and fixed the error.
  2:20pm
Amanda:

Intrepid Doug! Thank you!!! And for your efforts we are now PAST the 25% mark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS, STREAMLOVERS EVERYWHERE!
  2:25pm
Veronica:

HEE HEE HEE HEE HEE HEE HEE HEE HEEEE
  2:26pm
Doug S.:

For a pledge of a hundred clams you get a ton of FMU crap: WFMU Miracle soap (or a sticker), a brandy-new T-shirt, any DJ premium of your choice, and a CD of WFMU-created remixes of Sun Ra songs. How motherloving cool is that?! Can we get one $100 donation before three o'clock? Yes, I really think we can.

Amanda you were such a wonderful virtual co-host for me last March during the Marathon. I just wanted to say thank you.
  2:28pm
Amanda:

It remains one of my fave-rave WFMU memories; the pleasure was all mine.

Get super excited for next week's show, featuring the diabolically giggling Veronica Liu of Word Up books. SHE IS MY FRIEND
  2:29pm
Van:

Some of us probably already met that but not for a single show ;)
  2:34pm
Veronica:

More like an elated schoolchild, than a diabolical force.
  2:35pm
Doug S.:

Schoolchild in German = ?
  2:35pm
Amanda:

We'll see about that.
  2:36pm
Amanda:

@Doug, heh heh that is an in-joke
  2:37pm
Van:

Funny Doug :)
  2:37pm
pgw in mntclr:

this song kills me too. it's also one of those Waits songs that makes me want to stop what i'm doing and go directly to a bar.
  2:38pm
Van:

Wow, what a coincidence pgw in mntclr. That's where I'm heading to in...lessee...21 minutes now.
  2:45pm
pgw in mntclr:

but i bet you'd rather be in a cubicle, like i am
  2:48pm
efd:

Belated greetings Amanda! I was in and out for most of the show, so I'll have to visit the archive later. I like that 27% up there in the thermo-meter!
  2:50pm
Doug S.:

Last couple of pledges before 3:00pm. Whaddya say? This is Amanda's first-ever fundraising show of any kind. Let's let her leave the program with a glow that will last at least until next Wednesday at noon. Please show some love for the show, the stream and the entire WFMU Mothership.
  2:51pm
Amanda:

Hi efd! I like it too... I like it a lot. I would have played "Evan's Theme," but that one belongs to you.

9 minutes left with much happiness! How high can we boost this 3-hour zeppelin?
  2:56pm
Amanda:

Hey, someone just stepped it up! 29%! Thanks to everyone who listened and pledged. I am more chuffed now than ever.
  2:57pm
glenn:

ray IS gilbert. nom de plume, doncha know?
  2:58pm
Van:

Normally I am pgw...took today off work to go to doctor so my arm could be a pin cushion. Nice show Amanda, many thanks!
  2:58pm
Doug S.:

Amanda is a measly $5 away from getting to 30%!!!!!!! Come on a DO it!
  2:58pm
listener james from westwood:

thanks for the great show, amanda. looking forward to meeting your guest next week!
  2:59pm
pgw in mntclr:

Ray + Gilbert O'Sullivan = Charlie + Donald Kaufman
  3:00pm
A Phlebotomist Writes:

Van you did the right thing.
  3:00pm
Amanda:

glenn & pgw, I knew that, I was just trying to draw some comments. ;-)

THANK YOU ALL so incredibly much. Next week's show will be at least 500% better than this one's, I promise.
