Listener comments!

  9:18am josh norton:

Things are definitely getting better (to paraphrase Cannonball Adderley) if there's a new album by Jake Jacobs in the world.
  9:18am glenn:

i like this kitty, daisy and lewis quite a bit. who are they?
  9:21am RHenderson:

BW & VDP, a great one-two punch from the titans of quixotic pop to start the show. Nice one, Bob, and lovely to hear "Come To The Sunshine" in full fidelity after hearing the scratchy MGM 45 for decades.
  9:22am SmokinJ:

Hey! It's a party!
  9:23am Bazz:

kitty, daisy and lewis are three north london siblings, obsessed with vintage recording equipment and old 78s who made their name already when they were still in school, i think kitty the drummer was only 16 when their first album came out.
  9:26am Bazz:

...they started releasing all their records on 10" 78rpm...so the debut was on 5 10"...recent releases consist of 8 10" records....now that's dedication to sound! oh and live they're awesome...
  9:40am Keith Spring:

Don't Talk About My Music was co-written by Donn with Donnie Placco, the guitar player, co-founder and guiding light of the band.
  9:49am glenn:

so........ who makes turntables with 78 rpm speed anymore? or is that a dumb question?
  9:54am SmokinJ:

Vestax and Numark, to name two in the affordable arena. There is a limited demand for 78 RPM tables but the best bet is to refurbish a classic.
  10:15am Jim B:

@ Glenn - good bargains in the classifieds: audiogon.com.
  10:16am marion:

Good Day to You! Enjoying lounging to your show!
  10:17am SmokinJ:

Audiogon is an option for those with deep pockets. Rummage sales are a better bet. :)
  10:21am glenn:

i don't need another piece of audio gear especially considering i mostly just listen to wfmu online these days. on the other hand, i'd snap up an akai gx 77 in a heartbeat,
  10:22am david:

anybody got a recommendation for a Jack Nitzsche CD?
  10:22am glenn:

also audiogon is probably in the u.s., so then i'd have to pay shipping etc. to canada.
  10:27am dale:

morning folks. thorens makes TTs that play 78 rpm. $$$$, tho
  10:27am Dominick:

meow!
  10:28am SmokinJ:

The The GX77 is a cutie but there are far better machines of that ilk. Yes Thorens are great TT's. Duals also rule if 78 is your taste.
  10:32am dale:

you can get a cheap repro crosley suitcase that plays 78s too. would investigate if they come with a proper stylus, however. they probably have a line out for the cornputer. if you aren't playing rare or valuable rekkids may be the way to go.
  10:34am Dominick:

KAB customizes Technics SL1200 to play 78 RPM
not cheap but real good
http://www.kabusa.com/frameset.htm?/
  10:38am SmokinJ:

NC6 Rule! Ronnie Rice thanks you bb.
  10:39am glenn:

i agree there are better machines, but what can i say, that's kinda what i want. hard to find though, people don't seem to want to give them up.
  10:45am glenn:

thanks for the kab link, dominick. i'd never heard of them. it's a good site.
  10:51am T-Zero:

Thanks for another grand program, Bob. Was perfect for this Saturday morning.
  10:53am scott:

Beautiful, and maybe a little overused flanging, rubbing the reel the right way
  10:53am Glenn L:

The station has a couple of those modded SL-1200's.
You could probably get some good info outta Scott Williams.
I have one of those cheapo Numarks that play at 78.
For $100 I'm pretty pleased with it.
  11:00am Bas, NL:

@Dominick: Thanks also for that link to KAB. I'm seriously considering it.
  10:29pm miketp:

bob i have that new colony 6 on 45 great great tune with some very nice drumming going on . such a tender love song.
