Julie:

  3:07am
Julie:

Hiya Fred & Cheri
  3:08am
cheri:

that's cool julie,,
  3:13am
cheri:

julie i'll see you during evan's show,, i hope and i'll listen to the the archives later,, thnx again..
  3:13am
fred:

Bye Cheri!
  3:14am
cheri:

see you later fred
  3:16am
cheri:

julie,,,you rock!!!
  3:23am
Julie:

Hmm this sounds too high
  3:25am
fred:

It's so quiet here, where is everybody?
  3:25am
Julie:

Watching the raid on Zuccotti park?
  3:27am
fred:

Shit, they're arresting people there too?
  3:27am
T-Zero:

Heh, good one.
  3:27am
Julie:

which can be watched with the sound off. Yeah I heard they sent the press away and there was some pepper spray
  3:27am
fred von helsing:

Checkin' in !
  3:28am
Julie:

Hiya Fred hi T-Zero!
  3:28am
T-Zero:

Morning, Julie!
  3:29am
fred:

Good morning T-Zero and Fred! I was getting lonely in there
  3:30am
Julie:

Hey!
  3:30am
T-Zero:

Is it raining in New York? (Just wondering)
  3:31am
Julie:

No.
  3:31am
fred:

raining blows, apparently
  3:32am
T-Zero:

It's been raining here since yesterday. :(

@Fred: So I've heard.
  3:32am
fred von helsing:

Nefertiti...
  3:33am
fred von helsing:

"We had to destroy freedom of speech in order to save it."
  3:33am
T-Zero:

BTW: By yesterday, I don't mean just a few hours ago. I mean for like the past 24 hours.
  3:34am
T-Zero:

I haven't really been paying much attention to the protests, but isn't the bigger deal the fact they set up camps rather than the protests themselves?
  3:36am
Julie:

T-Zero YUCK.. where's here again?
  3:36am
Julie:

I think the fact that they do this raid at 1am is pretty hinky..and sending the press away
  3:36am
Sam:

Good morning everyone. The police are just mad because someone took a crap on a cop car.
  3:36am
T-Zero:

Ohio. Columbus specifically.
  3:37am
T-Zero:

Agreed, Julie.
  3:37am
Julie:

I nearly played Ohio
  3:40am
fred von helsing:

I nearly took a crap in Ohio
  3:41am
fred:

Julie, they were just looking after the health of the journalists, sleep-deprivation can be serious. Their responding to a provocation right after that is a coincidence. The police is here to protect the public, you know.
  3:42am
jamesie:

how a bout a snatch of ustream?
  3:43am
fred von helsing:

"Ein Volk. Ein Reich. Ein Percent."
  3:44am
(mta) Tony:

Sorry to interrupt your show, but everyone should put on Channel 10 to see history in action, with the police taking action in the middle of the night under the shadow of darkness.
  3:45am
fred von helsing:

yeah the sunday show was cool :-D
  3:48am
(mta) Tony:

I'm NEVER one to request songs, but I think it would be cool if you played Dylan's "Times a-Changing" among many others to fit the present situation with the protesters and the Nazis. Everyone tune into Channel 10 while listening to fmu.
  3:48am
Julie:

Does that mean the cable news networks stopped their reruns?
  3:50am
(mta) Tony:

For the first time in hours, it's live right now. You might want to broadcast the news as well to others on the other side of the world.
  3:53am
fred:

I always love it when they say they arrest people for "resisting arrest"
  3:54am
fred von helsing:

Yeah see if you can squeeze in a classic 60s protest song or two. Maybe wait til the last hour when you get some sleepy-eyed commuters tuning in !
  3:55am
Julie:

yeah it will fit better later on..I found a good cover
  3:55am
fred von helsing:

When I started reading about all these high-tech riot suppression methods, I could see where it was heading. It's carte blanche to stomp out protest, as long as there's no broken ribs or fat lips. Welcome to the Brave New World of post-modern protest.
  3:56am
fred:

I'm not seeing changing times there. More like The Clash's "know your rights"
  3:56am
(mta) Tony:

I just came home from work a little while ago so I'm late tuning-in. This is the first I'm hearing about the Protest scene. Protesters are allowed to return to the park but without any belongings, later today or tomorrow.
  3:59am
(mta) Tony:

You're right, fred. I'm pretty sure Julie will continue to play appropriate tunes. Thanks, Julie.
  4:00am
Julie:

@LindsayChrist is doing a good job on twitter for those who have
  4:00am
Julie:

oops that is @Lindseychrist
  4:00am
T-Zero:

Julie, what did you mean "you almost played Ohio"?
  4:01am
(mta) Tony:

I didn't realize what I was watching happened 3 hours ago. But they did have some new footage a few moments ago.
  4:01am
Julie:

I mean I almost played the song Ohio
  4:02am
Gavin:

Hey Julie, Its been a long time since I head your lovely voice. Glad to be tuned back in.
  4:03am
T-Zero:

Modest Mouse? I mean there's a million songs called Ohio lol
  4:03am
(mta) Tony:

So why didn't you play it, Julie? I think it would be great!
  4:03am
Julie:

T-zero Crosby Stills & Nash..
  4:04am
Julie:

It's DARK, those kids were shot,. didn't want to go there
  4:05am
T-Zero:

Ohhhh. Yeah. I'm with you now. Kent State.
  4:05am
(mta) Tony:

I see; valid reason! Have it on hand; hope we don't need to play it. Smart!
  4:07am
fred von helsing:

Actually the original Beatles Revolution would be fun to play today (commute-time blast from the past). Everything's gonna be all right, because "America will always do the right thing, but only after exhausting ALL other options."
  4:09am
Julie:

revolution 9 or the single>
  4:11am
(mta) Tony:

Both. Others. All...
  4:13am
Julie:

Wow no Beatles on Spotify
  4:17am
Gavin:

of course not Julie, they are incredibly tight-fisted. Thats why an original Beatles song has never been in a movie, ya know.
  4:17am
Julie:

I can't find the rockin version of it
  4:20am
Gavin:

http://grooveshark.com/#/s/Revolution+9/3oO1SM?src=5
  4:21am
Gavin:

...not sure its what yr looking for.
  4:22am
T-Zero:

Thanks for playing Japan. I love them and that's one of my favorite compilation albums.
  4:24am
Julie:

ha screwed up the order there this is Black Ice
  4:39am
fred von helsing:

ROCK
  4:39am
hamburger:

wahoo. that scorcese documentary on george harrison was on the bbc last weekend - interestin' stuffs.
  4:39am
Julie:

had to resort to youtube..what a treasure hunt that was!
  4:40am
Julie:

I was climibing ladders and everything, it ain't in the library..we need the blue album, we only have the red
  4:42am
fred von helsing:

Red, White, and no Blue ? You will be reported to the Department of Homeland Grooving
  4:43am
Julie:

got another song for the next set that's appropriate?
  4:46am
T-Zero:

Sorry, but this is painful.
  4:47am
Julie:

Someone a while back had wanted to hear it
  4:47am
T-Zero:

Like the song, just not that cover
  4:48am
Julie:

Yep I knew that's what you meant
  4:51am
Kostas:

it's been a while since I listened to your show! Still...Love your voice July!
  4:52am
fred von helsing:

Maybe for a mellower interlude, Serge's "Soixante-neuf"?
  4:52am
fred von helsing:

Night Porter, yeah that film is major cool
  4:56am
(mta) Tony:

It's been a while since we've heard Aphrodite's Child - 666, "4 Hornsmen of the Apocalypse." - Happy Birthday Julie!
  4:58am
Julie:

I don't know either of those..does it fit the theme?
  5:00am
Julie:

No luck with either, and I'm not running into the library again ;)
  5:00am
(mta) Tony:

Yes, I think mine does. It's only ONE song (tee hee). It's a red album with only "666" on the front.
  5:02am
Julie:

I meant the serge as well
  5:02am
(mta) Tony:

Aphrodite's Child is the Artist. Should be easy to locate since it's in the A's.
  5:03am
T-Zero:

Yay! Nico.
  5:03am
Julie:

I know it is. I am closest to the Y's
  5:04am
Julie:

Yeah this is Nico album I hadn't heard before
  5:05am
fred von helsing:

Serge et Jane

  5:05am
Dave B:

Checking in.
  5:06am
Julie:

Hi Dave!
  5:06am
fred:

Good morning Dave!
  5:07am
fred von helsing:

Get'em out by Friday !
  5:08am
(mta) Tony:

Yardbirds, from Roger the Engineer...Shapes of Things...
  5:10am
(mta) Tony:

Yes, "Heart of the Sunrise" from Fragile...
  5:10am
T-Zero:

That Camera Obscura album with Konig is the only thing I have
  5:10am
Andrew:

Hi Julie & everyone!
I liked the Kate Bush & this Genesis song is pretty good too.
what's the protest about?
  5:11am
Dave B:

Gabriel last weds. Fishbone documentary last night. Sadies tonight. Ray Davies Sunday

Wa-hoo

Morning Julie. Morning Fred
  5:12am
T-Zero:

Evening, Andrew
  5:13am
Julie:

I like the Kate Bush song but the background vocals are atrocious.
  5:13am
Matt from Springfield:

"Mellow Mellotrons" oughta be a theme episode--3 hours of that would barely scratch the surface!

Morning Julie! Morning everyone!
  5:13am
Andrew:

Good song this. Demis Roussos changed a fair bit in his solo stuff.
  5:13am
Julie:

Hi Matt! I wouldn't begin to know how to put that together
  5:15am
(mta) Tony:

Neil Young, After the Goldrush, "Don't Let It Bring You Down" Just a few "Y" artists. Hi Matt. Thanks for the Aphrodite's Child!
  5:15am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: The MBs are a big chunk of that, for example :)
Any other 60s or modern goth that features mellotron.
  5:15am
Julie:

haha okay guys..Let me play some of this pile I brought in, I appreciate the effort though
  5:15am
ausmanx:

evening, Julie, evening all. i rather like the idea of an "Angry Mellotrons" show... that would be harder to put together!
  5:15am
T-Zero:

@Julie, After I heard My funny valentine from that Nico album, that's all I can think of whenever I hear that song now. I like Fearfully in danger from that album also
  5:15am
fred:

Julie, I have to agree about those backing vocals.
  5:16am
Matt from Springfield:

Hi Tony! It's been a while since I heard Aphrodite's Child as well--Julie has played it before though.
  5:16am
Julie:

Bad BV's will wreck a totally good song
  5:16am
Julie:

I did..ages and ages ago
  5:17am
fred von helsing:

How about a human mic at the next WFMU outdoor concert? Play a couple measures, then pause to let the mic repeat it. Oh wait... that's been done... d'oh
  5:20am
Gavin:

was demis roussos really in Aphrodite's Child?
  5:20am
Dave B:

@ausmanx - I have a friend who gets angry at his mellotron when it breaks down
  5:21am
fred von helsing:

Is that Emilie from the new album?
  5:21am
ausmanx:

King Crimson did some angry mellotron in their time, i think... there's probably one of 21st Century Schizoid Man
  5:22am
Julie:

Nope 1st album, is the new one out?
  5:24am
Matt from Springfield:

@ausmanx: I don't recall mellotron on 21st Century Schizoid Man, but that was the loudest of their 5 tracks on the first album. All the others have it, but it's mellower.
  5:26am
ausmanx:

i reckon that's why the mellotron's angry then, Matt, cos it got left off that track. i can picture it, seething in the corner...
  5:27am
fred von helsing:

I've seen a track here and a track there but nothing complete
  5:28am
fred von helsing:

"Angry Mellotron"?!?! What's next? Jumbo shrimp?
  5:28am
Gavin:

uh, did I just hear that right? "sex makes me shy"?
  5:28am
Julie:

Yeah I played a track her people sent me at some point. Still trying to get her in here!
  5:29am
Matt from Springfield:

@ausmanx: Gotta show the mellotron you care...

Wow, never heard Donovan's '81 album before! I think this was his last continuous album from the 60s before his popularity was revived at the end of the 80s.
  5:29am
Julie:

I think it makes HER shy..and the rain makes her cry
  5:30am
Julie:

There is one more from that time, can't recall the name. Only reissues are overseas
  5:30am
Julie:

Lady of the Stars? don't recall the year
  5:31am
Dave B:

"yeah, well like that's your opinion, man".

Jeff "mellow Tron" Bridges
  5:35am
T-Zero:

Julie, Nico died in 1988 and that was her last studio album.
  5:36am
ausmanx:

so they really cleared Zucotti Park last night, people? very sad...
  5:36am
Julie:

Thanks T
  5:37am
Matt from Springfield:

@T-Zero: I was thinking that would be her last, or one of the last while Nico was alive.
@Dave B: Yeah, Jeff Bridges is the "mellow Tron"! Love all his characters.
  5:38am
Matt from Springfield:

I'm going to look for footage of Zuccotti Park getting raided if it's out there. Was Clay going down to get audio? They threw out the "media", but Clay blends in better...
  5:39am
fred von helsing:

Heh, if I were there and had the tech, I'd do a live remote from OWS :-D http://www.ustream.tv/ has some weird client software but it basically works. A bud and I streamed from Mac to iPhone AND vice-versa.
  5:39am
Julie:

I hope Clay went down..no idea
  5:41am
Matt from Springfield:

Finnish Elonkorjuu?
  5:41am
Julie:

I guess so
  5:42am
fred von helsing:

Oh yeah that's a Finnish name !
  5:42am
Matt from Springfield:

I was also going to comment that I love the name of Erik & The Smoke Ponies! I assume that the "Smoke Ponies" would have to come before the "Stone Poneys"? :)
  5:42am
jay/london:

good morning t-zero julie dave b and all
  5:42am
Andrew:

http://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elonkorjuu

  5:43am
Julie:

Good morning Jay!
  5:44am
Julie:

Alas only decent song on the new album
  5:45am
fred von helsing:

The only one? Bummer..
  5:47am
Julie:

well as I scanned it anyhow..didn't listen all the way through
  5:47am
fred von helsing:

To stream tho you have the choice of a crappy webcam or else a vidcam with Firewire. Streaming over USB doesn't really work apparently, altho Sony claims to have it. Channel 23 ain't quite there yet
  5:47am
Andrew:

new album? well it's good she's still making them ^_^
  5:48am
Matt from Springfield:

Hey! The Primitives were on the CD86 comp! I thought so, based on this sound!
  5:49am
T-Zero:

  5:53am
fred von helsing:

Oh noes! Deadline approacheth! Another great show!
  5:53am
(mta) Tony:

  5:53am

  5:54am

  5:55am
T-Zero:

Thanks for the program, Julie. I'm hungry, so off to cook something now. lol
  5:55am
Julie:

stop in more often gavin
  5:56am
Matt from Springfield:

The white on red background of warmth, of a still-beating heart, will soon fade to the cold, granite eternity of white on black in the Archives.
Great show today Julie!
  5:57am
fred:

Nice show Julie, I'm stuck home and it kept me from getting bored.
  5:58am
fred von helsing:

Sunday's! http://www.wfmu.org/playlists/shows/42643
  5:59am

Van in Dallas:

All right, looking forward to back-to-back Dark Night of the Souls to make it through my workday! Made it through the 1st set, loving it!
  12:10pm

Wow what a solid show! It's like you raided my album collection from many years ago Julie - Piper, Out of the Blue, Garlands, Camera Obscura, Nursery Cryme, and Japan with Oil on Canvas! Man were Japan awesome! David Sylvian, Mick Karn, Steve Jansen, Richard Barbieri, and I think sometimes Ryuichi Sakamoto...and Mark Isham? I forget...but what an awesome lineup! Sylvian had a couple of incredible solo albums later - Brilliant Trees and Gone to Earth.

All that, and new KaTe! And Emilie! And so much more lovely auditory delights this show!

Still listening, but wow, loving this show Julie.

Incidentally, as for the new Emilie Autumn album, she tweeted just about a week ago I believe after she did the final recording for it.

Well, if IED is still around, the KaTe genius extraordinaire from the early-internet days of Newsgroups and lists, particularly the Love-Hounds list, this latest KaTe release has him hard at work right about now I think...that would be the one and only Andrew Marvick. Wow (pun intended) what memories with these names! http://gaffa.org/intro/credits.html

Did not make it through the back to back shows here. This one was GREAT. Followed by Kate's new album in its entirety. Followed by Austra live on KEXP in Seattle. What a perfect, perfect day for music for me at work!

Missed the show live, listened to the first half earlier today, now catching up with the rest on a fittingly dark rainy night.

Great, great show Julie - superb sets.

Melted a little when "Sometimes" by MBV came on :)

(Got a new phone, first app to download? WFMU! First show listened to? Dark Night of the Soul, of course!)

I have that app for my iPOD :)

So I backed WAY up to the very first Dark Night of the Soul (listening to it now)... Minako Honda was new to me, and as I usually do, I have to discover who these people are that are sounding so wonderful...wow what a sad sad story about Minako. Gone way too early. Somewhat like a Selena for Mexico or Pung Puong for Thailand. Very sad to see such talented and revered young artists like these meet an end way too early.

Anyway, enjoying your very first show Julie.

Oh wow...THAT is why Minako's name might have stuck out at me in my subconscious...Julie just played her again recently, the Helter Skelter song... I honestly didn't put 2 and 2 together there!
