  12:56am
Joe D.:

Joe I just checked the playlist archives and you are the only DJ who has ever properly punctuated and capitalized the name of Man... or ASTRO-man?.

and I was impressed enough about that to write a comment about it.
  12:57am
Joe McG:

Really, Duffy? So many DJs here are copyeditors!
  1:02am
Joe McG:

Ha ha!
  1:06am

  1:11am
yair Yona (Tel Aviv, Earth):

Back from jogging ;)
All good, great set ! That's a great non Tom Waits piece!
  1:13am
slugluv1313:

ahhhhh loving this YAT-KHA version of "Levee" . . . !
  1:17am
Matt from Springfield:

Hello Joe! Hey everyone!
Intercontinental glories here!
  1:17am

  1:18am
Joe McG:

Hey, Matt! Hey, slugluv! Hey, Julie!
  1:19am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie,Holly: Are you guys talking about the Ren & Stimpy "It's LOG, It's LOG" song? :)
  1:19am
Julie:

oooh this is cool @Matt yep
  1:19am
Matt from Springfield:

From the Itsy Bits and Bubbles album, a request from a fellow FMU DJ!
  1:21am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: Yeah, I'd like to see this performed live!
  1:23am
Matt from Springfield:

I've heard M83 before, cool electronica. The album title "Hurry Up, We're Dreaming" is the perfect fit for this song!
  1:25am
12539:

Ribbit.

Euoll Gibbons:

Some Pine Cones are Edible
  1:28am
dave:

hot choc-o-late
  1:40am
Matt from Springfield:

Awesome version of GTO!
  1:40am
Julie:

this sounds a lot like Blondie
  1:43am
Matt from Springfield:

Debbie Harry was my first reaction when it came on.
  1:43am
Joe McG:

It's Debbie under an alias recording for Bomp! Her record co. wouldn't let her do it under her own name.
  1:44am
Matt from Springfield:

"The New York Blondes" = "BLONDIE"??! Wha...???!!
  1:44am
Julie:

Ah I knew there had to be some connection. Why didn't she do it with Blondie?
  1:45am
Julie:

is there a B-side?
  1:47am
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, didn't know the Ruffin brothers ever recorded together. Kind of nice, they were great singers.
  1:47am
Joe McG:

@Julie: She probably did, but they never recorded it. The B-side is some nonsense called "Holocaust on Sunset Blvd" which is a sort of noise-collage with local voices popping in and out (I hear Rodney Bingenheimer in there, I think).
  1:48am
Julie:

Weirdness. Cool find, Joe ;)
  1:50am
Joe McG:

I'm a Blondie groupie.
  1:50am
Julie:

Wind in the Willows?
  1:52am
Joe McG:

Sure, I like them, even though she's sort of embarrassed by it.
  1:54am
Julie:

Why was Blondie characterized as punk/new wave anyhow?
  1:55am
Marmalade kitty:

Good morning!
  1:56am
Matt from Springfield:

Morning MK!
  1:56am
Joe McG:

Hey, Kitty!
  1:56am
Julie:

hiya MK!
  1:57am
Marmalade kitty:

:) I missed shonen knife.. I saw them in 93 or 94
  1:58am
Joe McG:

@MK: I saw 'em a bunch of time back then, the original 3. Only Naoko is left from the original band now.
  2:08am
Julie:

Mary Mary!
  2:13am
Marmalade kitty:

I was confused about the skids. I knew of the Scotish group, but I remember Nirvana talking about the Skids in Kurts Biography and thinking it couldn't be the same band.
  2:13am
Julie:

Radio thrift shop!
  2:15am
Matt from Springfield:

Good ol' Luis-ville Slugger, eh Joe? :)
  2:16am
Matt from Springfield:

@MK: Cool, I didn't know Shonen Knife was popular outside of Japan--this was my first time hearing them, and I liked them.
  2:16am
Joe McG:

Indeed!
  2:19am
Joe McG:

Has anybody seen my marmalade kitty?
  2:19am
Matt from Springfield:

@Joe: For your "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" set, you played from an LP that had Judy Garland on a radio show, a dramatization of being "pitched" the song. Is that from the same series of LPs as this one?
  2:19am
Marmalade kitty:

oops no! Kurt apparently played with Skid Row.. nothing to do with the skids!
  2:20am
Matt from Springfield:

There's our Marmalade Kitty, our Marmalade cat!
  2:21am
Joe McG:

@Matt: No, this is a different company entirely. Big points for remembering my Wizard of Oz show, though!!
  2:22am
Matt from Springfield:

Twas a good'un, Joe!
  2:23am
Joe McG:

Why, thankyee, Springfield Matt.
  2:24am
Marmalade kitty:

how sweet :)
  2:26am
Marmalade kitty:

I want a hippopotamus for christmas!
  2:26am
Julie:

Phenomenal Cat
  2:27am
slugluv1313:

@ Julie -- good question! all these bands -- Blondie, Ramones, Patti Smith, Television, etc., all played at CBGB's, Max's Kansas City, etc. during that mid-1970s time period -- ALL had way different sounds but were all way different from what was popular at the time -- disco, "progressive" rock, etc. . . at some point, the media decided to lump 'em all together under the terms "punk," "new wave," etc. . .
  2:28am
Matt from Springfield:

No crocodiles or rhinoceros-es-es,
I only like hippopotamus-es-es!

Maybe they'll soon start playing that this time of year.
  2:29am
T-Zero:

I like that kids song, but forget what it's called. Just heard it played on The Kids' show in New Zealand the other day.
  2:31am
Matt from Springfield:

Duh oh! Get out yer hankies, everyone! Joe's reaching into the spoken interlude/ country song bag!
  2:32am
Matt from Springfield:

@TZ: How's it going!
Do you mean "I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas"? That's the title. Are they playing that in NZ now?
  2:32am
Julie:

How the eff did it get to be december 4th??
  2:35am
T-Zero:

I'm not sure if it was that Christmas song or not, but it was some kids song about wanting a hipo. I'd have to hear it again to be sure. It was a couple of weeks ago.
  2:35am
Joe McG:

@T-Zero: I know the one about wanting an elephant. That's Hank Thompson, I think.
  2:37am
T-Zero:

It wasn't Hank Thompson.
  2:38am
Julie:

Oh I know the hippo one too. Sung by a kid. Why would anyone want an elephant when you could have a hippo.
  2:38am
Joe McG:

Hmmm...Buck Owens? That doesn't seem right.
  2:39am
Julie:

Or teeth. Teeth are always a good xmas gift.
  2:39am
Brian in UK:

Hello, no idea how it got to be 4th Dec, Julie. Sounds from the talk it is getting late.
  2:40am
T-Zero:

I didn't think it was anyone American. I thought it was some old British kids song.
  2:40am
Marmalade kitty:

"I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas" sung by Gayla Peevy, written by John Rox #24 on Billboard magazine's pop chart December 1953 ..I thought it was sung by shirley temple, but i was wrong!
  2:41am
Julie:

Was it last year Joe did that wonderful winter-themed show? Or was that more like later in winter. That was a goodie.
  2:41am
Brian in UK:

Julie. All I want for Christmas is my Two Front Teeth.
  2:41am
Julie:

gayla peevy cool name
  2:42am
T-Zero:

I really don't think that it was about wanting a Hippo for Christmas, just about wanting/having a hippo. I really wish they kept an archive.
  2:42am
Julie:

I have my front teeth. But I'd be happy to take extras in case I take up hockey.
  2:42am
Joe McG:

@Julie: I'm on Xmas Eve this year. I'm doing a Xmas show. You've been warned.
  2:43am
Julie:

There can't be two songs about wanting a hippo, could there? @Joe as long as you play Father Christmas by the Kinks I'll be happy.
  2:44am
Matt from Springfield:

Yes, that wonderful winter folk show was this time last year!
The tempus, it fugit...
  2:46am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: Sounds fun, though I won't be able to make that show live I'm intrigued what you might pull out! (The Gremlins snippet again?) :)
  2:49am
T-Zero:

It was Flanders and Swann
  2:49am
Matt from Springfield:

Btw, once I heard an awful version of "Father Christmas" on the radio! Some woman was singing it lounge-style, scat vocaling around to the rhythm of a piano. Totally loses its context and spirit. Worse still, I DON'T think it was supposed to be funny!!!
  2:51am
Matt from Springfield:

Hey Joe, that album "the descendants" made me think of Dave Bartholomew's "The Monkey Speaks His Mind". Have you heard of that one? Do you HAVE it? On a 45?? Single File GOLD if you do have that one, it's great!
  2:51am
Julie:

Joe's doing the Xmas thing...not sure I'll go that route again
  2:51am
Brian in UK:

T-Zero Mud, mud, glorious mud nothing quite like it for cooling the blood.
  2:52am
Joe McG:

@Matt: I wish I had that record, it's great. Rex probably has it.
  2:52am
Julie:

And yeah the gremlins into the heavy metal carol of the bells was one of my favorite things I ever did
  2:53am
T-Zero:

Yeah. I think that was it, Brian. I knew for sure it was British.
  2:53am
Julie:

Wow very nice Roy
  2:54am
T-Zero:

I'm usually half napping when I listen to the kids show for the story, so my memory gets foggy. lol
  2:55am
kiemzi:

awesome show, joe! hi, btw.
  2:56am
Matt from Springfield:

From 1970. Excellent Roy Harper, I think you pretty much can't miss with his songs.

@Julie: That WAS a great thing! If you did industrial mixes, that would be the sort of audio sample you would play over your mix.
  2:56am
Joe McG:

Thanks, kiemzi! Shucks. Hi and bye!
  2:58am
Joe McG:

Thanks for listening everyone, have a great week!
  2:59am
Brian in UK:

Au Revoir.
  2:59am
Matt from Springfield:

Great show Joe! Have a good night!
  2:59am
T-Zero:

Thanks. You, too, Joe!
  2:59am
kiemzi:

bon soir et matin or whatevers!
  2:59am
12539:

Thanks Joe, and hippos to all.
  3:00am
Julie:

Thanks Joe!
  3:32am
T-Zero:

Ok. After listening on YouTube, MK and Brian were both right. The kids show has played both songs, but it was the Christmas song MK brought up that was what I was thinking of.
