Live performance by Melaena Cadiz and Friends (L to R: Arthur Vint: drums; Scott Colberg: bass; Adam Lomeo: electric guitar, backing vocals; Melaena: lead vocals, guitar, banjo)

Drawing from that fine tradition of country folk singers, Melaena Cadiz has been making a name for herself both as a solo artist and as a backing vocalist. Her pastoral, country-tinged music is filled with her unusually arresting voice, a standout especially when she performs live. Melaena has been compared to the likes of June Carter Cash and Patsy Cline with a touch of Joanna Newsome's unusual style. Cadiz also haunting role in Matt Bauer's video "Blacklight Horses." Melaena Cadiz and friends played live on WFMU.

Hi Everybody! Just getting set up for Melaena Cadiz, who plays live at 1pm. Sean I highly recommend Meg Baird. She sang with Espers, and has one of the most Beautiful voices around today.

Good morning from rainy Arizona. Fairport Convention suits this time of the year.

Van in Dallas:

Love Sandy Denny! Just got her Boxful of Treasures recently and adore it. I don't think this FC song is on it though.

By "on it", I mean on any of the disks in the box :)

Irene:

This recording of Matty Groves is with Fairport at a club called Ebbets Field (not the ballpark) recorded at their peak in 1974.

Brian in UK:

Hello Irene & friends. we saw Meg Baird at Cafe Oto in London last Monday. You are right, Irene she has a very distinctive voice. Strange in that it is a gig for what you might call progressive music, Sun Ra's ensemble was on recently, so seeing MB there was a little odd.

For some reason, Melaena is somewhat sort of kind of reminiscent to me of Eliza Rickman, and I mean that as a huge compliment, because I greatly admire Eliza.
