Listener comments!

  9:04am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

don't eat the reindeer, it's not of the best quality, I hear...good morning, Jason!
  9:08am
jason:

what's there to eat but reindeer meat? g/mornin DCE and to all the listeners, is it starting to feel like xmas or what?
  9:08am
abby in france:

hi jason, nice colors on the playlist page
  9:09am
Cheri Pi:

G'morning Jason, abby, DCE
  9:10am
Caryn:

This is not the best time of the year for reindeer meat. Have it in August or September.
Also, good morning, all!
  9:11am
glenn:

got any more good jokes, caryn?
  9:12am
abby in france:

hi cheri
  9:14am
still b/p:

I'll have a nice cheese Blitzen, please.
  9:14am
Michele:

Good morning Jason, off to a great start once again! Morning everyone!
  9:15am
BSI:

luckily my trip to Alaska years ago was during a meat-eating phase. And lo, the reindeer was awesome. I have spoken.
  9:15am
Caryn:

@Glenn: hmm, dammit, can't think of any right now. I gotta give props to Bea herself for coming up with the last one.
  9:18am
Caryn:

I'm so tired right now, I could probably come up with some lame pun about how the best reindeer dish I had was a "Donner" kebab, but why even bother...
  9:20am
jason:

hey abby, cheri, caryn, glenn, still b/p, michelle, bsi, glad you're all able to join in on the live radio reindeer roast
  9:21am
glenn:

if bsi would move away from the fire a bit, we could all warm our toes.
  9:22am
BSI:

Also the salmon, of course. Fresh-caught & roasted promptly. Best meal ever.
  9:23am
BSI:

oh, hell, that was a communal fire? Sorry folks. Here I was waiting for the sacrificial animals & slave-goils...
  9:28am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

there's not a whole lot of Inuit vegetarians, are there?
  9:29am
Cheri Pi:

Wow-Grails sound like they're wearing slacks!
  9:33am
Cecile:

I love this little drummer boy.
  9:34am
Cecile:

BSI, caribou is also amazing. We ate it several times in Quebec - both tender and amazingly lean. Wonderful.
  9:34am
Cecile:

DCE - no.
They get their A and C vitamins from whale and seal blubber in the winter.
  9:35am
lewis:

that was a great "drummer boy"!
  9:35am
still b/p:

The Inuit have more than fifty different terms for "No salad, thank you."
  9:36am
John frederick:

Good morning all, it's too early for math problems.
  9:37am
Cecile:

salad is for summer - when the herbs and berries are fresh. They got that right.
  9:37am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

LMAO still b/p!
  9:37am
BSI:

I gotta say: As a big Grails fan (both live & earlier LPs), when I first got the Deep Politics LP, it didn't "get me" at all. But I just dug it out for the first time in months, & it's growing on me. It's a creeper!
  9:41am
Parq:

Jason, I can never remember whether Ruby is the song and Sneakers is the band or the other way around. Glad to know you have the same problem sometimes.
  9:44am
Yvonne:

This is what I wish they would play all around right now. Because shopping at this time of the year can be VERY stressful.
  9:48am
Chris from DC:

Yeah, this is pretty much the only thing keeping me sane at the moment.
  9:50am
BSI:

that, and the reindeer sorbet...
  9:55am
Yvonne:

Where can I get reindeer sorbet?
  9:55am
dc pat:

[shhh, "working" from home today...]
  9:55am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

this sounds great!
  9:57am
Cecile:

BSI, it's too bad El Bulli (Spanish avant garde restaurant) closed. I think you could come up with some great menus for them. Just include a lot of "foam."
  9:57am
Todd 76%:

Hey Jason - Any chance of pouring some out for a real punk rock hero, D. Boon, gone 26 years ago today? Maybe partying will help...
  9:58am
jason:

hey mr 76%! Always up for some Minutemen, i'll try to work some into the last hour
  9:58am
Cecile:

Todd, right on.
I broke down and cried in a record store when I heard that
  9:58am
dc pat:

I second Todd 76%'s suggestion.
  10:03am
BSI:

Cecile: the idea of any kind of "avant garde restaurant" sounds great. I picture 40-foot pyramids of orange ghee being served by waiters in Hugo Ball costumes.... whoa.... I need to find investors. Got a sudden business plan...
  10:05am
Todd 76%:

Listened to "history Lesson Part II" this AM and got all misty-eyed...He was such a great guy - The old CT punx scene loved him, Watt, and Hurley. Thanks, Jason!
  10:06am
yayson:

nice show this morning sir
  10:07am
glenn:

you could call that restaurant "doomed to fail".
  10:09am
Cecile:

BSI, you read reviews of El Bulli, and it was damn close to that. Before it closed, you had to wait 2 years for a table.
  10:10am
maja:

agree wit yayson, hello all.
Glenn you are in a special mood today!
  10:10am
Cecile:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ElBulli

I'm sure you'll dig that part about the "sphererification kit."
  10:14am
glenn:

?
  10:15am
Caryn:

Seconding the D. Boone suggestion. Also, some Joe Strummer would be nice (gone 9 years today). Man, can the punk legends just not handle the constant X-mas carols or why did they both have to die on this date?
  10:19am
John frederick:

@ Todd 76% I remember watching a documentary on Sublime late in the previous (previous) decade. Mike Watt was interviewed and when he talked about D. Boone, you could see him choking up. It caused me to cry to. I always been a Minutemen fan.
  10:20am
Cecile:

Well, d boon drove with a ridiculously high fever after everyone warned him not to, and Strummer pretty much drank and smoked himself to death.

But yeah, it's a crappy time to die. if you have a choice in the matter.
Watt has never gotten over it.
  10:20am
Cecile:

nor have a lot of us, truth be told.
  10:21am
Cecile:

who knew Spanish was a great rock 'n' roll language?
  10:23am
John frederick:

The Mexicans
  10:25am
dc pat:

actually d's girlfriend was driving when they crashed, but...

I always liked Ed Sanders's idea of a restaurant called Vomit.
  10:25am
jason:

it's easy to rhyme in spanish because there are less variable vowels
  10:26am
jason:

...than english
  10:27am
Caryn:

@Cecile: yeah, I know. But you almost wonder if both situations were egged on by having to hear "Christmas Shoes" and "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" or something all over the place. That would drive me to drink, or to get in the car to get the hell away from the crap music.
My godfather also died today a decade ago, but as he wasn't a musician, so a music request will not be forthcoming.
  10:30am
Cecile:

was there a song he liked?
  10:30am
glenn:

well, there's the theme from the godfather.
  10:30am
John frederick:

Dead Gum, this is cool.
  10:31am
Cecile:

and that's an interesting conspiracy theory.
I know that if comedian Patton Oswalt has an aneurysm onstage during the holidays, The Christmas Shoes will be suspect #1
  10:31am
BSI:

DHOLI!!!!!!!!
  10:32am
dc pat:

can you play White Riot and This Ain't No Picnic at the same time?
  10:34am
Caryn:

@Cecile: well, he was more into classical music, actually, but he was a movie freak, so the "Godfather" theme music might work for that angle too.
And yep, Cecile, you got that right. I share Patton's aversion to the song, so I have watched http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iq10bz3PxyY quite a few times in the past few days.
  10:35am
still b/p:

Break some Christmas cookies over a KFC bowl for Patton.
http://tinyurl.com/2frbpf
  10:35am
Cecile:

It is so creepy. I kinda like "Grandma", it's a silly novelty song. But the other one...ugh.
  10:35am
earwax:

Goddammit. I had never heard of Xmas Shoes until it was mentioned here. I went and listened and now I have to go bleach my ears.
  10:39am
maja:

@ glenn, i thought you were bit grumpy, i see im wrong, sometimes i get these ideas about some of you regulars here on the comments board.
  10:41am
Caryn:

I've been following a "worst X-mas song" vote for the past 2 weeks. It seems like the final match will be between "Christmas Shoes" and McCartney's "Wonderful Christmastime". And Cecile: "Grandma..." is creepy too: drunken octogenarian gets killed by a hit-and-run Santa and the family is all in black and mourning over the holidays? Sheesh!
  10:42am
Caryn:

I gotta say, Bob Dylan's X-mas record has some of the crappiest X-mas tunes (and weirdest associated videos) ever.
  10:43am
glenn:

save some clorox for me, earwax.
  10:44am
seang:

vex ruffin!!
  10:45am
dc pat:

AAAA! You had to mention the shitty McCartny tune!! Fuck now it's in my head. Worst. Song. Evar.
  10:45am
Cecile:

The Bob Dylan Christmas album is hysterical.
  10:46am
dc pat:

Now I remember why I dislike Paul....
  10:47am
abby in france:

we're simply having a wonderful christmastime!
  10:48am
Caryn:

Sorry, dc pat! But that's nothing. I work in a shop where they sell X-mas gift boxes that play music. One of them plays a muzak version of "WCT" and customer keep opening the boxes, so I get to hear a tinny version of that crappy tune hundreds of times a day... No wonder I'm exhausted after work.
  10:48am
dc pat:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
  10:49am
dc pat:

sorry Caryn, sounds like an aural hell. The Dylan album is growing on me. His voice is so screwed that it somehow works for me..
  10:50am
Caryn:

I love the guy who said "WCT" should just be called "McCartney discovers synthesizers". Really, the whole track is just an excuse to use synths.
  10:51am
dc pat:

This Eli Sketch tune is like the anti-WCT tune.
  10:52am
Ike:

I just got here. Wait, Patton Oswalt didn't die, did he? He's still alive, right? I got confused. Whew. Anyway, @Caryn, you're making me appreciate my shitty job. "WCT" is the KFC bowl of Xmas music.
  10:54am
Caryn:

Some Dylan X-mas for you. Although I agree with the people who say that if the Dropkick Murphies covered this track, it would be good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8qE6WQmNus&feature=player_embedded
  10:55am
abby in france:

i saw dylan at the so-called site of woodstock a couple years ago, he stank. i felt actually robbed.
  10:56am
dc pat:

Brave Combo does a decent take on that tune.
  10:57am
Caryn:

OMG, just checked the "worst X-mas song" vote, and in the semi's, "Grandma..." pushed out "WCT" to go up against "Christmas Shoes", but "Shoes" was triumphant with almost 76 % of the vote. Not surprised, really.
  10:58am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

8 bit always makes me happy
  11:02am
Cheri Pi:

Cecile-I got my first copy of Decibel yesterday, 1 page in- is a giant ad for Iced Earth's tour dates!!!
  11:03am
Ike:

Editorial Mr. Hyde taking over... can't stop him! GRRRRRRR! Semis does not have an apostrophe! Extra-dirty coal for your stocking! And no need for the "&" or anything afterward in the Youterb URL. That's superfluous. <wails, gnashes teeth>
  11:06am
Caryn:

@Ike: oops about the apostrophe! But the stuff I know about URLs I could write on a grain of rice, so what you get from me are cut & paste jobs, so try to tough it out :)
If anyone wants to check out the worst list with its brackets: http://jezebel.com/5870113/weve-found-the-worst-christmas-song-ever?tag=holidays
  11:09am
John frederick:

Band Aid's "Do They Know it's Christmas" one of the worst Xmas songs. Of course they don't know it's Christmas, they're animist.
  11:11am
Merton Hanks:

Happy Holly-daze from Detroit, Jason!
  11:13am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

Ike is the Lou Grant of the comments board!
  11:13am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

oh shite I'm showing my age again
  11:13am
Caryn:

@John frederick: definitely. "Yeah, song, maybe they don't know it's Christmas. And you know what, maybe they don't give a rat's ass, because they do not celebrate Jesus or Saturnalia."
  11:15am
BSI:

Brave Combo? Egad, haven't heard that name in a wildebeest's age...
  11:16am
Caryn:

But from what I hear (haven't seen it myself), they made "Do They Know It's Christmas" even worse on "Glee" by singing it to the homeless. Telling the homeless "tonight, thank God it's them instead of you" seems so wrong, I'm not even gonna try and look for that on YouTube...
  11:18am
Ike:

Wait, Lou Grant yelled at people for misuse of apostrophes? My hero! Maybe I have to watch more 70s TV.
  11:18am
glenn:

well, everybody (republicans and other right wing retards) knows that the homeless choose to be that way. they should just pull themselves up by their bootstraps.
  11:20am
glenn:

what exactly is a bootstrap, anyway?
  11:20am
seang:

ya gotta love Paul Young, Boy George and George Michael on that tune
  11:22am
seang:

and simon le bon
  11:22am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

if I had boots, they would probably have suede fringe instead of straps.
  11:23am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

ooh Green Pajamas, now that's a band I haven't heard in awhile!
  11:23am
blip:

Caryn: I just YouTube'd it. And then promptly vomited.
  11:23am
earwax:

I'm off to hunt and kill a christmas tree.
  11:24am
Caryn:

I actually don't mind most of the singing in "DTKIC?", but the cultural imperialism of the lyrics irks me. The "Feed the world, make them know it's Christmastime" refrainjust makes me think of the "South Park" episode where the missionaries will only give the starving Africans food if they read the Bible...
  11:32am
Caryn:

Just glanced up at the tv, only to see Wolfman Jack there in a bathrobe...
  11:33am
still b/p:

Wolfman Jack is Krampus!
  11:33am
glenn:

run for the hills, caryn.
  11:34am
Aaron in Jcity:

Xmas came early my favorite MinuteMen song - thanks J
  11:35am
BSI:

Wolf Blitzer is Krampus!
  11:37am
Raf:

Thought I'd tune in for a second and am rewarded with some excellent jangle. Thanks, Jason!
  11:37am
seang:

love this band!
  11:37am
Caryn:

Well, at least I didn't glance up to see Wolfman Jack in my room in a bathrobe, so...
  11:38am
glenn:

didn't jason promise us some husker du this week?
  11:43am
Eartha:

Santa Baby,
Put Wolfman Jack right under the tree,
robe-free...
  11:44am
John frederick:

Setting up the aluminum pole for tomorrow's Festivus celebration.
  11:47am
BSI:

Fever Tree..... ahh...... now suddenly a deep craving for FUZZY DUCK is forming deep inside...
  11:48am
Caryn:

ahh, Festivus, the holiday for the rest of us...
  11:49am
glenn:

hasn't all that ROASTED REINDEER filled the gap?
  11:53am
abby in france:

great show jason thanks and happy happy holidays
  11:54am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

ha ha!! funny!!
