@Caryn - I always got a kick out of those shows where one actor would play two characters in the same episode, split screen like. Now, if Colombo tried that I wonder if the glass eye would give the illusion away...

Some trivia for you:
"Columbo" started life as a couple of tv movies (I'm excluding the original one-off tv episode and subsequent play), but the first episode of the actual series was directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Stephen Bochco.
The famous raincoat was actually Peter Falk's own coat.
Bill:
Columbo was imporant to the series, of course. but the villains were as important. They all had an arrogance and incredible hubris. The hubris made them able to fend off Columbo untl he finaly developed absolute proof that they were the murder.
The actors picked to play villains in the Columbo revival shows weren't as good. That's why those shows are weak.

@Bill: you may be right about that. The old villains were always great. Like Patrick McGoohan, who was always superb. And Johnny Cash.
