Listener comments!

  9:11am alan:

thanks, scott....been waiting for someone to do a Sam Rivers retrospective on the radio. Had an clear intuition that you would.
  9:16am Scott:

Hey Alan, hope you enjoy it. Really looking forward to revisiting this music myself!
  9:25am fred:

Good morning Scott and Alan
  9:30am Scott:

Good morning, fred!
  9:34am Chicago Joel in NC:

Morning Sir Doug! Enjoying the Brazillian sunshine.
  9:38am Scott:

Good morning! I'm not doug, though. :)
  9:41am Mike East:

A co-worker downloaded the WFMU app this morning when I told him you were playing a Sam Rivers Tribute. Enjoying the set!
  9:42am Mr. Two-Arms:

Morning, Scott! Anyone else only receiving 1 channel on the 128K mp3 stream?
  9:43am Cheri Pi:

Sacre Bleu! My stream is down!
  9:43am Marmalade Kitty:

I love the album cover of Fuschia Swing Song
  9:44am Louisville Dan:

Yep, just the right channel in Louisville.
  9:44am Cheri Pi:

Oh wait, it's half down.
  9:44am Scott:

Oh that's criminal, it's only in 1 channel, ouch.
  9:44am maestroso:

Only getting the right side on the iphone stream.
  9:44am Mike East:

the co worker just reported only receiving one channel on the app. (I'm not on the 128k stream)
  9:45am Scott:

Try this again.
  9:46am SmokinJ:

128k stream r ch only!
  9:46am Scott:

Hey guys, it's not the stream, it's the DJ! ;)
  9:46am Scott:

Or, er, the DJs equipment.
  9:47am SmokinJ:

All better!
  9:47am Marmalade Kitty:

Beatrice very Miles Davis esque.. One channel? Is that like Mono..?
  9:47am Scott:

No it's like an effed up cable, I think.
  9:48am Scott:

Why not listen to "beatrice" on repeat, though, am I right?
  9:48am Marmalade Kitty:

Sounds fine on my end, Scott!
  9:48am Mr. Two-Arms:

Ahhhhh, there we go! Back in equilibrium, both ears served. There must be a name for that, I often find myself rubbing my left knee if, for example, a passerby on the bus accidentally rubs my right knee.
  9:48am maestroso:

Ok, now both sides are there.
  9:48am Scott:

Jaki Byard kills this song dead.
  9:48am Mr. Two-Arms:

OCD?
  9:50am Mike East:

  10:23am pgw in mntclr:

i forgot that there was a quiet/low-key song on that Holland album
  10:23am Alf from Upstate:

Sam Rivers loved rock and roll, Brucelah. Cheer up.
  10:27am Scott:

No problem, bob brainen!
  10:28am Scott:

@pgw -- yeah I love the slow burners.
  10:28am ddoug:

This Sam Rivers big band stuff is where it's at. I can't believe I've never heard this before. Thanks!
  10:30am Scott:

Oh man, yeah, this whole Crystals album is highly recommended!
  10:31am Dead Corporate Eyes:

inconstantsol.blogspot.com just posted Crystals the other day when Sam passed, if you're interested in a FLAC download.
  10:33am tony:

Yeah, was diggin' that Crystals track, man. Grazie!
  10:37am pgw in mntclr:

yeah, that "Birds" album is awesome, especially for its heavy [non-ECM] moments.
  10:40am Scott:

True. Though I think one of the reasons I like it so much b/c it's not just free blowing; stylistically different than ayler/trane/cecil axis.
  10:45am Marmalade Kitty:

This is Rockin'..!!
  10:46am Scott:

This one is reviled by critics!
  10:47am Scott:

Stupid critics!
  10:47am Scott:

If only it said "Ornette" on the cover.
  10:54am Artanker:

Nice tribute. Thank you, Scott.
  3:24pm Jeff G:

Thanks for this, Scott. Enjoying it after the fact (as much as one can "enjoy" a show that has such a reason for being...). Sam Rivers was the single most MUSICAL person I've ever had the pleasure to see perform.
