Didn't hear or play "Friday the 13th" there once, which I was kicking myself about when the whole Monkathon was announced. But we did get our math lessons occasionally interrupted by a guy with an alto sax asking us to "name that tune", which was nice.
	4:19pm grg: just to clarify. . . i left out the little descending run in my version in order to preserve the ringing of the preceding notes, not because of its bitchiness to play (though i won't say it's easy, either.)

	4:20pm kat330: But I couldn't skip it. I'm a stickler A-type. But I might sing it, speak of the McFerrin devil.

	4:21pm kat330: grg: Yes, I can see that as valid because it was sounding muddied when I attempted at the tempo I heard online. Not criticizing, just noting.
	4:22pm Caryn: Yeah, kat. They taught all kinds of music, but a lot of emphasis was placed on jazz, including musical improv, and tests where we'd have to listen to jazz tracks and name the time signature, the instruments and the original tune they were riffing on.
	4:22pm ranjit: I'd never heard Friday the 13th before. By the first break, it was my favorite song ever. Before the second break, I was playing along on my toy plastic Tonette. I hope and expect to despise this song before 6pm.

	4:32pm Carmichael: I don't know how people can yodel at all. Sounds like their windpipe is about to burst. Listen to a great yodeler, and you can hear the effortless octave changing. I thought doing a Monk song would be a bizarre, Dokaka-like experience to hear.

	4:34pm DJ KG: one-time fmu dj bart plantenga (the first real live wfmu dj i ever met!) wrote a great book on yodelling called "yodel-ah-hee-hoo" of course.
	4:34pm kat330: I can manage a smidgeon of yodeling. Has to be exactly in the right range, and it's really minimal. Now my uncle, he was great at it.

But we did get our math lessons occasionally interrupted by a guy with an alto sax asking us to "name that tune", which was nice.

	4:22pm Caryn: Yeah, kat. They taught all kinds of music, but a lot of emphasis was placed on jazz, including musical improv, and tests where we'd have to listen to jazz tracks and name the time signature, the instruments and the original tune they were riffing on.
