Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Production Note - I have done the last two shows in a 95% pure Old Style Dusty fashion. Analog. Cassettes. Micro-Cassettes. Etc. ---- However. I AM employing a USB turntable. I still have my old Technics turntable, but I disconnected it and put it in storage. I need to hook it back up again. I am a bit rusty with my scratching and editing. ALSO - my RS-B11W dual-cassette deck is not as fully-functional as units I've employed in the past. It's an older model dual cassette, and they aren't as obtainable as they once were. Matter-of-fact, when you do get ahold of one, two-times-out-of-three they don't work correctly. I have a genius of a repairman in Marl Slaughter, No not that Mark Slaughter, but it is his real name. Anyway ... this present RS-B11W is a little slow-on-the-draw as far as pause button release action and accuracy. It makes precise analog editing that much more difficult. I'm making excuses, true, but it is a contributing factor adding to my rustiness and current second-tier performance in that area. Struggling? Yes. But who isn't. Now back to the show.

Shelly's Feeling on Occupy

Beet Soup
Husband's Note: My wife reminded me that it's not beet soup she makes, but, rather, beet juice. It's an admittedly important distinction that I've now duly highlighted.

That's it for another Dusty Show. I hope you liked it. These playlists take for freaking ever! When they are done, however, I'm glad I did them.

I have enjoyed going analog again the past couple of weeks and will probably continue in that vain as long as my RS-B11W holds up.

I am nursing a bad cold as I type this. Wishing it would go away. My wife just brought me some juice. I have a new hat and my hair is getting really long.

Occupiers ... Keep Occupying. Everyone, thank you so much for listening. Take care and ... always remember ...

Caryn:

Just today I read a passage by Kurt Vonnegut (written in 1965) that I think the OWS wouldn't disagree with: "Honest, industrious, peaceful citizens were classed as bloodsuckers, if they asked to be paid a living wage. And they saw that praise was reserved henceforth for those who devised means of getting paid enormously for committing crimes against which no laws had been passed. Thus the American dream turned belly up, turned green, bobbed to the scummy surface of cupidity unlimited, filled with gas, went bang in the noonday sun."

@the woman speaking: THEY LIVE. WE SLEEP.

(If you don't know what this means, see John Carpenter's "They Live"--love that movie!)

Thanks for turning us all onto the Occupy movement. I didn't get to meet the OWS members marching to DC before Thanksgiving, but I did attend Occupy Congress two days ago! Talked to a lot of people, got plenty of photos!

  6:18pm
cglenn:

right on Kata
  6:18pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: "They Live" may not be a Carpenter "genre" movie, but I also think it's his masterpiece, a great movie produced out of his great mind.

Keep doing Occupy shows as long as it's relevant, Clay! Like I said, every time I wondered if you've been going with it for too many shows, the next episode keeps showing that the movement is still so relevant! No one else is showing the humanity of OWS!

I think you are correct, Glenn.

Matt, I feel like I've had an opportunity to stick with it in the 'down time' through the cold winter months. Soon enough, the media will return en masse with the protesters.

David - I've heard the media downplayed the attendance. Glad it was well-attended.
  6:23pm

@Caryn: No I haven't, sounds intriguing!

Hi Frances - thanks for listening!
  6:24pm
Caryn:

I think the way mainstream media ignore OWS (hell, Occupy Congress was ignored by many channels, including CNN) makes Clay's effort all the more important. Not only is this important and interesting programming now, this will also be an important historical record.
  6:25pm
Matt from Springfield:

@david: I measured the route we marched afterwards on Google Earth--5 miles of marching in the streets! But I'm glad we hit all 3 branches of Government: Legislative, Judicial, Executive! And it was downplayed in the local media. (At least it made the front page of WaPo's local, "Metro" section).

Wow, Matt. That's significant. Maybe you can phone in with an update for me.

I suppose there was an element of that in there, Matt, but the insecurity is real and my statement was true, I believe.
  6:29pm
glenn:

i'd like to be more self deprecating, but i'm so bad at it.
  6:29pm
Matt from Springfield:

One virtual 100% position of all Occupiers is anger at the Citizens United ruling--it was intense on the Supreme Court steps, but cathartic! Some people really went to town, I thought they were going to be arrested.
  6:30pm
frances:

Hi Clay! I never miss an episode--& you're wrong about not having the intellect~~you are smart & you bring a lovely, welcoming, challenging and patient -but not a doormat- vibe to all of your interviews--and that tone has never been more than now with OWS coverage (esp since it's totally ignored by media so most mainstream folks are clueless that efforts are still going strong)
  6:31pm
mike east:

Nice one glenn
  6:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

Clay, as a (unauthorized, non-)psychologist, and someone who also is a anxiety-riddled perfectionist, I do that myself sometimes. Insecurity can't be cured, but I know that cutting yourself down just kills your confidence, with no guarantee of people lifting you back up.

On a slightly tangential political line: I'm just rooting that Gingrich's latest dumbass titbit (announcing that if he becomes president, he'll ignore the Supreme Court rulings he doesn't like) will turn off even the GOP-endorsed Supreme Court Justices.

  6:49pm
Caryn:

@glenn: yeah, I keep wondering which of the two, "Newt" or "Mitt", is the dumber, less confidence-inducing name. Of course, Romney's real first name, Willard, doesn't inspire much confidence either, what with the "loner controlling killer rats" aspect of it. Though the Crispin Glover connection is quite pleasing to me.

@Matt: Man, I must have missed the part in the Bible where Jesus demanded some sheckels before he healed the lepers...

"My hands are proprietary, leper. They don't come free. If you don't have have BlueStar or other insurance, you'll have to wait in line at the emergency healing room run by my Nigerian disciple. The line runs for days there.." :D

Night Al:

The 2012 United States elections will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. The presidential election will be held on this date, coinciding with Senate elections where 33 races will occur, as well as elections for all 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives. Democrats are expected to have 23 senate seats up for election, including 2 independents who caucus with the Democrats, while Republicans are only expected to have 10 seats up for election. You can occupy anything you want, but if you don't vote democrat down the line this next election, you are siding with the 1 %.

Night Al:

How ironic and moronic it would be for any person supporting an occupy movement but not voting Democrat come November 6th, 2012. If you are an ex-felon, petition your governor for reinstatement.
  3:56am
Srsly?:

@Night Al, Have you been listening to these? Obama signed NDAA, hasn't prosecuted any financial types, hasn't closed Gitmo, and passed Mitt Romney's healthcare plan. Do you really think there's a difference?
  1:34am
Night Al:

Reality check. It's Obama or Romney. Take your pick. Dennis Kucinich is my choice, but he's not running.
  1:36am
Night Al:

By not voting, you voted for Romney.
  1:38am
Night Al:

I just wonder how many of these OWS protesters camping out are not registered to vote.
