Listener comments!

  1:07pm Davice:

Makin' out!
  1:08pm cglenn:

i'm listening as usual Rex... always dig your spins..
  1:08pm Davice:

  1:08pm J.T.:

Hot sake? Great stuff!
  1:10pm J.T.:

That was Ken Nordine?!?! I didn't realize he did anything but word jazz. Wonderful!
  1:12pm Juke Joint Jonny:

As president of the Gus The Fireman Appreciation Society I applaud this week's Burt Mustin testimonial.
  1:21pm kat330:

A bit delayed at the keyboard but listening and shakin' in the kitchen from the beginning. Wail 'em, Rex!
  1:25pm J.T.:

Immoderation in modulation hits the sweet Spiral spot!
  1:26pm Barnum Alive:

I Mustin-form you that i strongly suspect that Burt may have had a distant ancestor who became overly familiar with a Dodo bird
  1:27pm kat330:

I think Burt has a wonderful face!
  1:29pm Barnum Alive:

As do i , ..i only wish i could exhibit the common link !
  1:31pm J.T.:

I know the song, but the name doesn't ring a bell. Must've been on a comp. Brilliant, tho'.
  1:31pm kat330:

Imagine a circus now filled w/ botoxed actors... now THAT's a sideshow.
  1:31pm Doctor of Dental Kibitzry:

@Barnum: Looks to me like he'd had a lot of teeth pulled by the point at which that picture was taken...
  1:52pm J.T.:

Alligator Wine!
  1:53pm J.T.:

My only question is why isn't his late-period song "Ashes" better known. Simply wonder-full.
  1:56pm Listener Jumpy in Brooklyn:

I blasted "Take 7" last week a DJ gig. They loved it!
  2:02pm Don (trip dub):

Burt Mustin met Archie Bunker once.
  2:05pm Richie in Boston:

By no means am I taking anything away from Burt Mustin but I would like to point out that Burt Reynolds is 76 today.
  2:08pm Playgirl Magazine:

  2:09pm kat330:

Always ask before shrieking. It's proper etiquette.
  2:10pm kat330:

@Richie & Playgirl: I trust botox is being kept north of the beltline.
  2:13pm Elias:

Ah. This show is reminding me of the day that I found out first hand that all tow truck drivers and Mister Softee men carry guns.
  2:14pm Richie in Boston:

@Kat...ha!....and there were no survivors to the south.
  2:18pm kat330:

@Elias: Sounds like an interesting tale to tell.
  2:19pm kat330:

@Richie: I should amend, north of the Sansa beltline.
  2:20pm fancylouie:

love this so much.... spo-de-odee
  2:21pm kat330:

Spo-De-Odee -- was that Froggy from Buster Brown?
  2:21pm Don (trip dub):

Alligator wine by spo-de-o-dee
  2:23pm Listener Jumpy in Brooklyn:

"Spp de Odee" sounded like Andre Williams.
  2:24pm Richie in Boston:

@Kat...Noted. There comes a point in every man's life when the elastic waistband seems like a good idea. I do hope I never reach that point.
  2:25pm Parq:

  2:26pm Richie in Boston:

This must be the flip side to "Beaver Patrol"
  2:29pm Tom:

Bert Mustin was a regular on Leave it to Beaver, is this a tribute song?
  2:30pm Parq:

Burt Mustin! I have so many memories of him on the Teevee in the 60s? Anyone else remember "The Funny Side". It had five couples -- a rich liberal couple, a conservative blue collar couple, an old couple, a college-age couple and a black couple. The guy in the black couple had a catch phrase "Hello There Theresa!", and was played by a young John Amos. (Guess which couple Burt was in.) And the whole thing was hosted by Gene Kelly. Great dumb entertainment.
  2:30pm kat330:

I don't know how he managed to wipe 'em out, but I cannot find a single image online of Burt R. in a leisure suit (which was my Sansa Belt point, not that he needed elastic in the '70s ;).
  2:32pm kat330:

Gee, Rex is going blue. Time to bring out my purple prose.
  2:32pm Listener Jumpy in Brooklyn:

Parq, thanks for reminding me of that show's title!
  2:33pm kat330:

@Parq: I don't recall "The Funny Side," but I sure remember Burt from Beaver, et al.
  2:36pm kat330:

Now this is a special Valentine's love poem.
  2:37pm ken in denver:

When Rex says he's ashamed to play a record, you know it's going to be something special!
  2:42pm kat330:

Someone hit Rex with an ugly stick.
  2:47pm Richie in Boston:

I haven't heard anyone say "Mishigas" on the radio since Charles Laquidara!!
  2:48pm J.T.:

Quick question, all good folk. Reading Max Decharne's Rocket in My Pocket (great!), makes me wonder what else besides Incredibly Strange Music volumes, Irwin's Outsider Music book and back issues of Kicks Magazine covers this era in a worthwhile fashion?
  2:50pm Tom 112482:

Two of the BEST songs I have Ever listened to. The Hitch hikers "shooting beaver/beaver shot" and "One ugly child" Larry Bright
  2:58pm kat330:

I forgive you the "ugly" spins Rex and to prove it, here is a special Valentine from us (J.T. & me) for YOU and your lovely listeners: oivas.com/valentines
Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
  2:58pm EVTikiGirl:

Bye Rex!!!!
  2:58pm EVTikiGirl:

Hey, Jumpy's here
  3:00pm J.T.:

Great show, thanks!
  5:25am Richard D:

Love that Shelley the Black Pope. Listened to him let listener chastise Tyrone Bell way back in 1965, lower 9th ward New Orleans -- Oh Yeah!!! Rex.
  5:57pm doctor nod:

The Rhythm Rockers: rumble fuzz
  3:23pm Richard D:

Bought the Soul Stirrings CD, and it's fantastic! Thanks for the tip, Rex.
