Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from February 14, 2012 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Ha ha, Wayne's World III b/w Godfather IV!

The show "The Critic" with Jon Lovitz always reviewed terrible movies that were the next sequel after the most recent real movie!

Mike: please look in on them and make sure they have adequate ear protection
  3:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

@PubMed: Wow, you're right! Never heard of thrush used as sores, I was just thinking of the birds. Mouth sores would be decidedly unromantic.

Oh, and Happy Valentine's Day to you as well!

Why is everybody laughing? My life sucks!

Mike: There's a reason the good lord gave us the Molitov Cocktail and a good pair of running shoes.

Dead Corporate Eyes:

Matt, think of it from herpes point of view--mouth sores are the IDEAL way to spend VD.

Matt from Springfield:

@b/p: Good title for a WFMU premium!
  3:52pm

@Mark in VT - I've never heard that - but yeah, I think it could be considered Mt. Dew punk. Thanks for the distraction, BT.

  4:21pm

MfS: stuff, like German?
  4:24pm
Mark in VT:

Used to play a Van Halen drinking game years ago. every time David Lee Roth yelled out a "waaaoooooo!!" you would take a drink. Which meant that you would just about constantly be taking a sip.

I vividly remember being picked up at the mall by my dad when I was about 12 years old. I just bought the just out Van Halen 1984 cassette. I got into the truck and ripped open the cellophane and could not wait to pop it in and play it. My dad said hmmm.
  4:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

@jmr3: Sehr gut! Zusammen, sind wir die WFMU-Deutsch-Polizei! ;)
  4:31pm

This day is flying...unfortunately I'm still here for another 7 hours. Atleast the Mt. Dew punks will be out of here in a half hour.
  4:31pm
Dead Corporate Eyes:

hey guys, talk American!
  4:33pm
Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: Good afternoon, American customer. Would you like to try our pork rinds value meal?
  4:33pm
bill:

MfS: Was ist los mit der Strandpromenade Reich reference?
  4:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

@bill: Well it's just a translation of "Boardwalk Empire" (based on that fragment of 20s-ish German singing in one of those pieces). I bet in Germany they just call it "Boardwalk Empire" like we do.
  4:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, Alex Chilton's voice sounds between the Box Tops and Big Star! He was chronologically between them as well.
  4:41pm
Mark in VT:

How do you say a David Lee Roth "waaaaoooow!!!" in German?
  4:42pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Mark: Well I was into "1984" at one time as well. It's an intro into classic rock, and those with good tastes soon move beyond it.

Oh yeah, to answer your question: "Vaaouuuuuu!!!"
  4:43pm
bill:

wääääööööw?
  4:43pm

Thanks for the link BT!

Mark in VT:

Funny how we now think of Van Halen as "classic rock" when at the time I remember die hard rockers talking about Deep Purple and Black Sabbath and the like being "true" metal and such. It is really weird to be thinking back on this when Van Halen was a new what would be considered today as a pop band.

I guess I am feeling old now. Because I remember when Metallica just came out, U2 was still a religious christian band, you could use the Atarii joy stick rubber piece that came off to threaten sodomy on an annoying friend, and Reagan was both the worst and best president for some reason.
  5:06pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: Legend of the Hidden Master Tapes! Hordes of treasure: guns, gold, and glum! :)
  5:07pm
Joe:

Wow Mark in VT that is the best short form discription of that time period I have ever read. Spot On.
  5:10pm
Caryn:

@Matt: I just like the implication that someone thought the masters were so valuable, they should be kept in a bank vault. Better than the "Wicker Man" reels that were infamously used as road building material...
@Mark: oh, those were the days. Atari remains the only gaming system that I've consistently kicked other people's butts on. These newfangled games aren't for me.
  5:16pm
Mark in VT:

I remember going to a friend's house back in the day. Back in the day! that is what oldsters say! We went to play Atari and one of the sticks was just the white plastic part without the rubber part that goes over it. The mom was yelling to the boy to get his room clean. We saw the rubber piece next to his bed and it was glazed over like it was greased up like vasoline. Don't know if he was doing THAT with it to this day.

Back in the day. I remember when the Beastie Boys came out and there were "skater punks" that would steal VW symbols from cars. I remember seeing some serious bloody fights involving classic stoners and these. Then it was evolving the heavy metal head shit.
