Hey all! Good evening.
  9:07pm
SteveL:

Its the funkiest!!
  9:09pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

This show is going to the dogs tonight.
  9:10pm
G:

Has it been awhile, Sybil? Or am I having the very early onset Alzheimers over here?
  9:11pm
Sybil:

The dogs are going to the show.

Bow wow wow, etc...

G:

Ceausescu (spelt like that), the romanian dictator who was killed around 1990?
  9:13pm
SteveL:

efd: You going to post the shot of you and dusty watching the dogs or should I?
  9:13pm
Sybil:

Ney, G, it's been awhile. I've had weird schedule, but now, weird or not, I'm such an Evan fan... I'm, here!
  9:15pm
G:

Here's where I flunk the Alzheimers test -- You're a math teacher or math grad student or something along those lines???

If so, the comment authentication is not as challenging for you as for some of us.
  9:16pm
Sybil:

But dang efd... ceauseseau??? Beyond expectactions!
  9:16pm
G:

Fatima Mansions is a somewhat infamous Dublin housing project, by the way. (I've published about Irish stuff, and spent time in Dublin.)

My wife is going to flip out over this dog-themed set when she gets home.

Hey G... You're the best! Yeah all that! Wow!

Mathetatician me!

P.S. the alleged "math" is the pits for me. I can't add.

Going a little crazy with the dog-wrangling just now, but thanks all for listening!

Evan, I'm planning to do an early pledge to tie down my naming. Sorry about that. But I promise to bug people here!

Whose dog pics? They're good...
  9:24pm

Hey Evan, and all! I know, but I sort of cheated. And I loved Inspiral Carpets 20 years ago.

Sybil! My gosh, I mean, criminy!

"whippet"? *groans*
  9:33pm

After which, I remembered I could have just grabbed the pic and got the name. But why do something the easy way when there's a difficult one? And Sybil, you've been missed!
  9:33pm
Joe D.:

that whippit pun. God. Dammit.
  9:34pm

Anyone remember the Toronto punk band Nazi Dog & The Viletones. I don't even remember if they were any good, just remember the name.
  9:34pm
Sybil:

OK y'al... I am the owner of a certain part of the WFMU infrastructure... and I plan on owning it this time around! I'm making my pledge before the deadline so that I can have my stuff named after me again. But you all? I dare you to match me!

And efd.... you played "whip it"? I so love you!

sorry, whippet. Not whippit. Heh.

I believe they changed it to one-time paid-in-full pledges this year, for namings. I'm guessing at least a few people got naming rights last year, and then stopped their monthly payments somewhere along the line during the year.

Holly in NC:

@Dame Edna -
Thank you for asking! One possum & one neighbor's cat (oops). And, elsewhere, 1 dead squirrel & 2 dead birds.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm
efd:

Mike, thanks for listening and checking in from the dark!
  11:37pm
Danne D:

I tend to keep the 1, 2, and Spy close to middle for easier deployment, sweeping up. I'm trying to remember the rest as it's been some years. I know that none of the pieces was the same value as its neighbor. Pretty sure I did some sort of deal with a 5 and 9 in the front on one side and maybe a 6 and a 9 on the other. Generally kept the miners toward the back/middle - generally wanted to deploy those once I had a good idea of where the flag is. Generally found it easier to win by attrition.
  11:39pm
Joe D.:

I will school you in Risk. Any of you. Step to this and get SONNED.
  11:40pm
Holly in NC:

efd -
That totally sounded like the opening to Superchunk's "Precision Auto" - wait there it is again!
  11:42pm
Danne D:

Very tough to knock out his 1 with a Spy - generally you have to keep the Spy close to a 2 or 3. About those 3's - I seem to recall I used them to the mid-back. I tended to play fairly non-aggressive, that is I'm willing to move pieces forward, figure out what's out there and then retreat - I'm content with laying back and letting the opponent expose pieces and picking 'em off. I like having a good piece like a 5 around to pick off the guys your opponent uses to pick off the scouts.

A big part is making sure you remember what a piece is once it has been exposed. Shuffling your pieces back to your lines and moving them around helps to obscure their identity.

Scouts I like to use if they have a piece that's exposed/uncovered and I want to find out what it is.

Hi Joe D. I cede Risk. Basically I cede anything except for backgammon, Monopoly & (bar) shuffleboard, I'm kind of a shitty gamer.

Danne - I am going to memorize your tips. You rock.
  11:45pm
Danne D:

Played a lot in college. Always went with a pretty standard set up, flipping what side the key pieces might be on, but largely it was a similar deal. Btw, if you're opponent decides to get cute and put bombs right in the front, blocking out the front line - don't bother to take those bombs out - let them bottle themselves up, it makes it much harder on them.
  11:46pm
Danne D:

Thanks :) Oh, if you get an advantage (say you have an extra 3) you should have no problem with trading pieces (like say your 1s).
  11:47pm
Danne D:

My college roommate once set up bombs in 4 of the 6 front positions (leaving only the left side open for movement). He put 7's behind each of those bombs - and I figured that's what he had done. So I left the bombs alone and forced him to play everything to that left side.
  11:48pm
Holly in NC:

Even more phlegm than usual. Get that man a suction tube!
  11:49pm
Danne D:

I hope to avoid suction tube duty during EFD's marathon show next week :)
