I'm sorry it's a no music realted topic here, but :
Is there anybody here that is good w/ computer?
I've been trying to reduce the space on my startup disk (which is full) i've tons of files that are taking a lot of space, but i don't know which ones i can get rid of…
  12:25pm SmokinJ:

@pierre: either delete or buy a bigger hard drive :)
  12:28pm Bytor:

Excellent chow! I mean show.
  12:29pm Bytor:

Hey Pierre you may get lucky re: hard drive.
12:31pm formerly known as the soundguy @ the Court Tav:

A-Bones, Nice!
  12:32pm Cecile:

photos and .jpegs you don't use take up a lot of room. And music files.
  12:32pm pierre:

@ SmokinJ : i've bought a big one to put all of my data on. But it's external to my computer, and i thought i could get rid of some files called .mddata or .framework or files like these.
  12:33pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Hello Joe et al, Along for the great Belock Ride! Thanks for the BJL & the Honeybears...twas a really great shew!
  12:33pm Dave B:

@Pierre - Mac or PC?

Pick up an external drive, and move media files (audio/video) to it.
  12:35pm Dave B:

and pictures too!
  12:36pm Dave B:

oh, and Joe Belock - the balance of my pledges will be getting paid on Thursday
  12:41pm Cheri Pi:

Hello Joe!
  12:41pm SmokinJ:

man these cats rock..
  12:41pm Parq:

This SoCul live album is freakin' nitroglycerine.
Avatar 12:42pm Joe B:

Pierre, good luck with the computer problems, I will leave it to the experts! Hi Cheri Pi! Hi Dave B, thanks for the support!
  12:42pm Cecile:

were the Gorilla Biscuits named after that McCoys song?
Avatar 12:43pm Joe B:

Hi Parq, you know it! hey Kirk! many great ABones/Neckbreakers bills at the Court! Hi Bytor!
Avatar 12:43pm Joe B:

Hey Dave, BR, Woo and Andrew!
  12:45pm pierre:

@ Joe B : merci, as long as it can play WFMU, and the 3 chord monte program, it's allright.

@ Dave B : i'm on a mac. I've put all my sound/video/images on my external hard drive (almost 500G), but my startup disk which when empty is 50G is almost full with only 7G of application, most of the space is taken by those .mddata or .framework files or cache, or file that don't even have names, i never what file i can delete whithout causing my computer to crash
  12:45pm John L.:

I still haven't seen SCOTS. Hopefully they'll play some NY/NJ dates this Summer.
Avatar 12:45pm Joe B:

Rumblings about a SCOTS NYC trip in early June!
  12:47pm kat330:

Hi y'all! (seemed an appropriate greet for Joe's playlist thus far :) Saw SCOTS at one of the earlier Waterfront Park free summer concerts in Louisville, c. 2003 maybe?
  12:48pm glenn:

joe, do you know the fathoms?
  12:51pm SmokinJ:

Raiders rule
Avatar 12:52pm Joe B:

the surf band?
  12:54pm glenn:

yes. a surf band from boston. they're definitely great.
  12:54pm Parq:

Joe, there's a second SCOTS live album, recorded in Madrid. Not as good as Doublewide & Live, but worth having.
  12:55pm Woo:

From Wikipedia: Carlo "Carl" Driggs, Paul Revere & The Raiders' longest-serving lead singer (a 20-year-plus span). NO! There is only ONE lead singer and it's Mark Lindsay. The Raiders today are but a tribute to the Raiders, like many groups of the era that still tour.
Avatar 1:00pm Joe B:

thanks Parq, did not know that
  1:01pm Cecile:

  1:02pm Dave B:

@Pierre - hit me up direct. I'll try to offer some guidance.
  1:05pm Dave B:

SCOTS 6/8/12 @ Maxwells....

  1:08pm pierre:

@ Dave B : merci, you're a "seigneur"

  1:15pm SHIMMY:

Sham Rock! that's one I forgot for my mini Irish garage/punk set for this Saturday. Any more Irish rock'n'roll suggestions Joe O'Belock?
  1:15pm paula pc:

thanks so much for pulling out these singles, Joe...great sweet show today
  1:16pm paul b:

Tangential question, but last week I read that the director of Head tormented the Monkees by playing Electric Flag on the set and saying "that's what a real rock and roll band sounds like." Odd since the Butterfield band had recorded a Neismith song. Are there any good songs by the Electric Flag?
  1:16pm Cecile:

Shimmy, gotta play THEM.
Avatar 1:22pm Joe B:

Shimmy, Undertones? Feel free to post the show details for Saturday! Born Loose ...
Avatar 1:23pm Joe B:

@ Paul B - Groovin Is Easy I thought was decent.

Thanks Paula PC!
  1:24pm SHIMMY:

Thanks !
This Saturday (St Patty's!) at Don Pedro is the 5th anniversary of Hullabaloo at Don Pedro. Born Loose, Foster Care & 45 Adapters. Me and Charles DJing.
  1:25pm SmokinJ:

My god people! The first Flag album is HUGE!
  1:26pm SHIMMY:

Here's what I have for my Irish set:
Them, Belfast Gypsies, Nipple Erectors, Pogues, Stiff Little Fingers, Undertones, Eire Apparent, Thin Lizzy, Rivieras (rockin' version of Danny Boy)... forgetting one or two here.
  1:26pm geokopp:

I agree with smokin joe, electric flag was great!!
  1:27pm Cecile:

it's one of those "classics" i never managed to hear. Although the copy at WCBN was completely trashed - the cover was held together with a ton of tape. I must have just missed it. Story of my life.
  1:28pm efd:

Shimmy, if you can get your hands on some Rudi I suggest you do so!
  1:28pm Cecile:

And I have a fondness for the Commitments soundtrack, sorry.
  1:29pm Cecile:

Not punk, but Horslips had a few pounders in there.
  1:31pm glenn:

when it comes to st. paddy's day i like my irish music to be traditional. the irish rover, black velvet band, dublin in the green. like that.
  1:32pm SHIMMY:

thanks all--
i might have that flag record somewhere.

commitments soundtrack: thought about that one although some people HATE it. the movie's entertaining.

rudi - new to me but the page i'm reading (http://www.spitrecords.co.uk/rudi.htm) sounds promising. might be tough on short notice.

not a fan of therapy? personally, i was tormented by their 90's chart hits in germany when i lived there. though i suppose there's some good stuff somewhere

horslips - i'm pretty sure the only stuff i've heard by them is pretty much MOR. if you've got any track names, send em my way!

oh and how could I forget THE URGES?
  1:33pm kat330:

@Shimmy: Probably not rawk enough for a drinking crowd, but there's Luka Bloom.
  1:34pm KevinWho:

Lydia Loveless, Pernices, and BGs Horizontal---there's a great trifecta !!! it's God telling me to go to the track tonight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm efd:

Shimmy, if you can track down a copy of "Crimson" by Rudi you won't be sorry. Total punk stomper. And "Sure The Boy Was Green" by Horslips is more rock than MOR, at least to my ears, but as Cecile mentioned not really in the garage/punk genre (and the Tull-esque flute probably doesn't help).
  1:35pm KevinfromBayRidge:

If you're going with Irish origins, howza'bout Rory Gallagher?
  1:35pm Cecile:

the movie is pretty dang entertaining. Part of the Roddy Doyle trilogy with The Snapper and the Ban.

dearg doom from Horslips is pretty tough sounding and has a great bassline.

It's not punk, but I really like rapper RiRa's 25 clock in the morning. Great stuff. And Jinx Lennon!
  1:36pm Cecile:

the Van, not the Ban.
  1:36pm KevinWho:

any other guitar nerds out there, i'd love to know what kind of guitar/pickups Lydia Loveless' guy uses
  1:36pm John L.:

Thanks Dave B. re: SCOTS. I have no excuses this time.
  1:38pm Cecile:

play Dearg Doom after or before Lizzy, I bet it works.
  1:38pm Cecile:

  1:41pm Dave B:

No problem John L and Joe B.

Shimmy - if you need some oddball transitional / filler music, might i suggest Laswell's "Emerald Aether: Shape Shifting/Reconstructions of Irish Music"
  1:42pm Cecile:

Also, the Tain, the album it came off has a really cool cover that predates stuff like Accept's Balls to the Wall:
  1:42pm SHIMMY:

thanks all. very interesting recommendations, if not for Saturday then in general for my general Irish roots!

Will be tracking down some of these now...
  1:42pm John L.:

This is the album that turned me into a Kinks freak. An overlooked album, despite the hit singles on it.
  1:43pm Cecile:

ITA, John L.
  1:44pm SmokinJ:

Cheers Kinks!
  1:45pm KevinfromBayRidge:

@John L, IMHO, one of their best!
  1:46pm kat330:

A first singles I purchased was "Tired of Waiting" -- longtime Kinks fan here.
  1:47pm John L.:

SCOTS, Reigning Sound and Roky Erickson, all within a week of each other, at Maxwell's. Maybe I should take a week off and vacation in Hoboken.
  1:48pm kat330:

Guess the flip of that was "All Day and All of the Night," and probably the A side actually.
  1:50pm Cecile:

is this a new Imperial Teen album?
  1:50pm John L.:

Actually, I'd have to take off 2 weeks. Oh well, it's not THAT far from where I live.
Avatar 1:51pm Joe B:

Cecile, yes, just came out!
  1:51pm seang:

cool tune, sounds like Prince
  1:52pm Cecile:

wow, they were inactive for a long time, weren't they?
  1:54pm chris:

Nice Imperial Teen track... digging that sound.
  1:55pm David Shortell:

My favorite Electric Flag track is “Flash, Bam, Pow", featured in the soundtracks of both “The Trip” and “Easy Rider”.
Sadly, it appears not to have been released in any audio format.
Avatar 1:56pm Joe B:

David, thanks for the pledges! catch you at a show soon!
  2:00pm David Shortell:

Regarding the Dave Clark Five, I finally saw “Having a Wild Weekend” last Wednesday on Turner Classic Movies. It was directed by John Boorman (Point Blank, Deliverance, etc).
Unlike “A Hard Day’s Night”, the DC5 don’t play themselves in the film (Dave Clark stars as a character named Steve).
Avatar 2:06pm Joe B:

never saw that movie. did you catch dexter Romweber at the Saint?
  2:10pm Cecile:

nice rewrite of Cosmic Dancer by T Rex.
Avatar 2:11pm Joe B:

or Life's a Gas!
  2:12pm Cecile:

Yeah, that too!
  2:12pm David Shortell:

I caught Dex, but wasting time watching the beginning of that movie made me miss the Norwegian openers. For some reason they went on before a lousy local act.
  2:15pm PKNY:

Thought I recognized that Volebeats song, it was written by Gene Simmons, and from his '78 KISS solo album!
  2:15pm Dave B:

@Dave Shoretell - "Flash, Bam, Pow" only 99 cents

  2:16pm chris:

Nice one, Joe B, looking forward to hearing the Night Beats on your show!
  2:18pm John L.:

Indeed, it is spelled "See You Tonite." I am holding the album in my hands.
  2:21pm David Shortell:

@Dave B.
Eureka! So "The Trip" soundtrack was released as an LP. I never knew.
  2:23pm Cecile:

Joe, can you slip on something from Washing Machine?
  2:23pm John L.:

But the best Kiss solo album is "Ace Frehley."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm efd:

John L. knows what's what.
Avatar 2:24pm Joe B:

@ John L - easily!

cecile - dont think I can get to it. funny, the Eternal really reminds me of that LP!
Avatar 2:25pm Joe B:

@PKNY - you got it! good ear!
  2:25pm Cecile:

John L, that is absolutely true.

thanks for trying, Joe.
  2:36pm Cecile:

Sly Stone. Genius.
  2:36pm PKNY:

@John L - Agreed about the Ace solo album; actually, that might be the last good KISS album.

Never heard of the Volebeats before, so I did a quick Google search...they do a country-flavored version of Funkadelic's "Maggot Brain", complete with some nice pedal steel playing! Great stuff!
Avatar 2:37pm Joe B:

volebeats' elevators cover I had to tell you is also a must hear
  2:37pm John L.:

The Volebeats have a cameo in a Steve Martin movie called "Shopgirl." The director was a fan.
  2:41pm Cecile:

PNKY, I was at University of Michigan the same time as Matt Smith was, and that cover completely encapsulates how broad his taste it.

I also need to check it out.
  2:48pm Cecile:

listening to Maggot Brain now, ha, it sounds like Crazy Horse.
  2:49pm Danne D:

Crazy version of black hole sun - crazier is that I picked it up immediately that it was that.
Avatar 2:50pm Joe B:

J Mascis and Mike Watt also did a good cover of maggot brain
  2:51pm Cecile:

When Nels Cline was in Watt's band they did a seriously great version of Maggot Brain.
  2:51pm chris:

Black hole strings... nice
  2:51pm kat330:

Joe, does it tell you who arranged this BHS? Gorgeous arrangement.
Avatar 2:52pm Joe B:

kat, says Eric Gorfain
  2:53pm kat330:

Thanks, Joe, and for the tunes today, too!
Avatar 2:53pm Joe B:

no, thank YOU!
  2:57pm Cecile:

Linda Perry
  2:58pm kat330:

Gorfain's bio is interesting.
  2:58pm Cecile:

later Joe, everyone!
  2:59pm kat330:

Gorfain's bio is interesting.
  2:59pm Skirkie:

Helluva show today.
