Yay!
  9:58am Brian en Angleterre:

Got any unpasteurised Stilton, Charlie?
  11:12am charlie:

hello, early birds!
no, @brian, but i know where i can get my hands on some. i have a connection in england...
  11:56am Michael:

If this is Thursday, it must be charlie?
  11:59am ndbob:

Heya Charlie and everyone!
  12:00pm Carmichael:

Aloha, Charlie. Hi everyone.
  12:01pm Carmichael:

Brian, how about some Japanese Sage Darby?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm charlie:

Hi Michael, ndBob, and Carmichael. Thursday, yes. Me? I guess so!
  12:01pm listener james from westwood:

good thursday all and howdy to those busy doing nothing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm charlie:

welcome, james fr ww
  12:08pm Van in DC:

Charlie, hi there! Hi alternate streamers!
  12:08pm Brian C.:

First time iPhone streamer, long time listener!
  12:09pm Carmichael:

For the 1st time ever, I'm taking hits on the stream. I thought it was just a bad MP3, but the Pretenders are doing the same thing. Oh well, beats silenece by a long shot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm charlie:

Hi alternate streamers and iPhone listeners.
Carmichael, is the stream breaking up for you?
  12:13pm ndbob:

stream is sounding fine to me so far
  12:16pm Michael:

128 stream is a-ok here
  12:19pm Carmichael:

Charlie, just enough to annoy me. It's the occasional hit. It could be on my end, or it could be a hydrogen storm on Venus. No biggie, I just wanted to make it known, in case there's a big knob that may need cranking.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm charlie:

Good to know. Stream on.
  12:25pm Carmichael:

Just noticed the Hylozoists' label, a reference from Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm charlie:

not to be confused with the Houyhnhnms
  12:29pm Doug S.:

I'm just popping on now. Today is housecleaning day, so I am pulled away.

@Carmichael, I received word earlier from WFMU tech guru Mike Adler that he was tweaking something with the stream. Maybe that was causing the glitches. Ironically, Mike was make an adjustment to shortening the length of rebuffering if and when it occurs. (The stream was very glitchy on Tuesday afternoon.) Hopefully things are more better.

Hi Chazzola!
  12:33pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Hey Charlie, It's great to see that you're on DrummerSome. Unfortunately I can't get the DS stream at work but I will be listening on the archive. Playlist & comments look great though! Interesting juxtaposition with Kamikaze. I get the live Windows 20k.My thin thread to sanity!
  12:34pm ndbob:

great song here!
  12:34pm Carmichael:

Scott!!!! Just saw 30 Century Man last weekend. What a great voice.
  12:34pm ndbob:

Isn't this a Verdelle Smith original?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm charlie:

you tell me, Bob!
  12:35pm Carmichael:

Kevin, check and see if you have QuickTime. Lots of PCs do, for video streaming reasons. If so, you can use it for this stream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm charlie:

Hi Doug!
Hello Kevin from Bay Ridge -- catch you on the archive :)
  12:40pm Doug S.:

@KevinfromBayRidge
How do you access WFMU's main broadcast? I'm hoping we'll be able to get the Drummerstream it's own pop-up player via Flash.
  12:41pm ndbob:

@charlie I will send you the Verdelle Smith song
  12:42pm Van in DC:

Loved living in the Raleigh Durham area! Miss it...Tobacco Road
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm charlie:

cool, bob!
  12:43pm kat330:

Hi, Charlie and everyone here! From Middle of the Road to Tobacco Road, I'm not busy doin' nothin', but wanted to pop in at least. Shoot, I missed the R.L. Burnside.
  12:44pm lewis:

Hldegard Knef is so Great!!
  12:45pm Van in DC:

Thought that voice sounded familiar
  12:46pm Dervish:

I thought this sounded familiar, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm charlie:

Hi, Kat, Lewis, Dervish!
  12:49pm kat330:

I knew this was NMH before I knew who was covering it. They are favorites of J.T. and an unmistakable sound. So this is the Television gal? She's using something to distort her voice a bit, yes?
  12:49pm Amanda:

Hey! What's goin' on here???
  12:50pm kat330:

Can I ask that directly?? :)
  12:50pm Van in DC:

@Amanda - YOU are! :)
  12:52pm ndbob:

Hi Amanda!
  12:53pm Amanda:

@kat330 -- nope, that is just my regular weird-sounding voice. Speaking of NMH, Bill Mac did an amazing version of one of their songs at the Hoof & Mouth.

Hi Van & ndbob! And hi Charlie!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm charlie:

I forgot to announce what song you sang, Amanda! Doh!
Hi by the way!
  12:54pm kat330:

@Amanda: It wasn't weird sounding, just very different, even than what I recall of Venus de Milo -- but very cool! The Bill Mac was also this year or ?
  12:57pm Van in DC:

Oh, Hi Amanda!

I'll probably have to catch rest of the show on archive. I have to go to a meeting :( So, thanks Charlie!
  1:01pm kat330:

It might seem new to me also because the guitar was a lot louder than your mic as it came through our speakers on VdM. We probably should have adjusted to help with that. IAE, I said it on a couple other playlists, your contribution was a true highlight delight from the marathon finale!
  1:02pm Brian en Angleterre:

Venezuelan Beaver Cheese anyone? If not this one'll do.
http://www.stichelton.co.uk/
  1:03pm Carmichael:

Charlie, I sincerely appreciate your playing the total destruction of that friggin' song. I would put a dagger through its heart myself, if I had the time.
  1:04pm kat330:

Could DJ Chazaloo be anyone we know? ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm charlie:

@Carmichael, it's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm charlie:

I hope you all will forgive me, though, the soul cover of a yacht rock staple that will follow this song.
  1:07pm Amanda:

That is so nice to hear kat!!! Thanks. Yes, Bill Mac did King of Carrot Flowers this year and Bryce played trumpet
  1:09pm ndbob:

actually .. I like this Charlie
  1:10pm Doug S.:

"Yacht rock" may be the most perfect genre name ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm charlie:

It's Dee Dee! Mrs. Kenny Gamble!
  1:10pm kat330:

You're deservedly welcome! Right, right I recall the NMH now.
  1:10pm Carmichael:

Good lord, Charlie. Where do you find this stuff?!? :) A cover of England Dan and John Ford Coley? Why, dear Lord?
  1:10pm Joe McG:

Charlie, you've made me like this song!
  1:11pm kat330:

As long as she doesn't Gamble and leave him flat.
  1:12pm kat330:

Joe! How ya doing? Holding up under the swag heap? :)
  1:14pm Joe McG:

Doin' my best, kat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm charlie:

Hi Joe McG! Yes, Dee Dee made me like the song!
  1:16pm Katya:

Time won't let me -- catch Charlie's entire show! Well, work won't
  1:19pm kat330:

A comment back to NMH: The unmistakable sound I alluded involves what I can only describe as a melody-that-isn't, a meandering line where notes are fitted to the words rather than ever vice versa. IOW, how many B'way musicals these days are written. Wonder if NMH has ever considered scoring a staged musical? [someone'll probably tell me it's already happened]
  1:20pm frenchee:

Amanda's version of "Venus d..." was perhaps one of my favorites from a pretty fave-heavy Hoof n Mouth.
Hi Charlie!
  1:20pm Katya:

A DJ Chazaloo track!
  1:20pm kat330:

That's called age, Charlie! I'm definitely afflicted with "looks like..." disease.
  1:21pm frenchee:

hah hahaha
I have "reminds me of..." disease too.
  1:23pm Carmichael:

Aaah, the Outsiders.
  1:24pm kat330:

@frenchee: The thing is it's viral now, because of the speed at which people assimilate images/sounds/info from the e-universe. Took some of us oldsters a bit longer to get to that point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm charlie:

Hiya, Frenchee! and Kat(ya), ya!
  1:26pm kat330:

Ohhh, this reminds me of last week's show. It wasn't Captain Scarlet we'd seen. It was a "Thunderbirds" spisode on some retro tv network. Seemed very similar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm charlie:

both by Barry Gray, @Kat330 - and both themes for British "supermarionation" series.
  1:29pm kat330:

Aha, thanks Chazaloo!
  1:29pm Katya:

Barry Gray Music Sampler fer yer pleasure: http://ufoseries.com/barry/
  1:30pm Carmichael:

My gosh, Cilla Black! She and Helen Shapiro are old favorites of mine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm charlie:

@Katya -- That's where I got it!
@Carmichael -- Yes, I needs to get me some Helen Shapiro too.
  1:31pm frenchee:

I usedta love FIREBALL XL5, that was my nickname at work once upon a time.
  1:32pm Amanda:

This Shirley & Company is blowing my mind.
  1:34pm kat330:

Bowie, oh boy!
  1:34pm Katya:

Everything reminds me of something I once heard on a Charlie radio show ;D
  1:35pm frenchee:

OH Chazster, you are making me v. happy with this Shirley&Co. segue into David Bowie..but the Bowie sounds ... a little different?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm charlie:

Many great songs on that album, @Amanda -- glad you liked it.
@Frenchee -- an apt name, I reckon! And, yeah, I have fond vague memories of watching that show as a tot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm charlie:

the bowie album says "1999 digital remaster" -- a sure sign of trouble, frenchee.
  1:37pm Carmichael:

Bowie produced 30 Century Man and is interviewed extensively throughout. Listening to the Walker Brothers singing Make It Easy on Yourself, I realized why Bowie would like them. Same big ballad singing, lots of orchestral drama.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm charlie:

Yes I can see a Walker Bros - Bowie connection.
  1:39pm Michael:

How about Bowie on Extras a few years ago:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv6mEv_rDdE
  1:41pm kat330:

@Michael: Saw that series! Enjoyed finding Ashley Jensen in particular.
  1:43pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Thanks Doug & Carm, I stepped away for awhile.
@Carm- I make my living compliments of the Man. That's the Man-Fed( I guess that means everyone in the US in some bizarre idealistic way). Bottom line- very few frills on my PC.
@Doug-Flash worked beautifully(both live & archives) till this Dec but now it shows up but doesn't start playing. This happens with other flash sites too. Luckily I can still listen live narrowband through the windows stream. It would be great if DS had some alt streams but the main thing is that here at all!! Thanks to your labor of love & all the pledgers this year. Now send that moolah in!
  1:45pm Brian en Angleterre:

The return of the Thin White Duck. Best period Bowi.
  1:49pm kat330:

@KfBR: Aha, you're our public servant. :)
  1:50pm Carmichael:

Kevin, I am also a faceless gubmint employee. Once upon a time, I loaded iTunes on my computer (via CD), and QuickTime was gratis. iTunes long gone, but QT keeps updating itself. Luck of the draw, I guess.
  1:51pm Brian en Angleterre:

Charlie, Changes is one of Phil Ochs bestest melodies. Is your show still only two hours?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm charlie:

Yes, Brian, wrapping up soon!
  1:53pm kat330:

Hammond Folk Groove -- a niche I knew nothing of. Today's bit of learnin'.
  1:53pm Brian en Angleterre:

Boo Hiss. More Hammond Organs
  1:55pm listener james from westwood:

thanks most kindly for the fine show. have a good rest of your thursdays, all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm charlie:

Thank y'all fer droppin' by. It's been a right plezjure! See you next time.
  1:58pm kat330:

Yes, thanks for the break from busy doin' somethin', Charlie -- now back at it. Have a great day, folks!
  1:58pm Van in DC:

Okay I'm back. Did you pause the show for me?
  1:59pm ndbob:

excellent show Charlie!
  1:59pm Michael:

Yeah thanks charlie - see ya next week!
  2:00pm Carmichael:

Grassy Ass, Charlie!
  2:00pm Brian en Angleterre:

New Jack Swing? Nice Charlie.
  2:02pm KevinfromBayRidge:

@ kat- if there's one demographic I'm truly estatic to serve, it's the FMU listener, especially paid (or soon to be) pledgers & prolific commenters!
@ Carm-They're reeeeaall tight here with any downloads. You ain't faceless( at least in a literary kinda way )'round here.
  2:03pm Katya:

Thanks, Charlie!
