Listener comments!

  7:04pm
david:

Can we get a no soap no shampoo update? (jay's renunciation)
  7:05pm
Yet Another Dave in Philly:

Are you gonna talk about the heart transplant?
  7:06pm
the glowing one:

so when do you stop using water?
  7:09pm
Ralphine:

Sounds like this is now the Kat Southerland Stunk Tank for 2012.
  7:11pm
pgw in mntclr:

when i first had a panic attack and thought that i was having a heart attack, the first thing i started to do was clean my apartment
  7:11pm
Kat:

That stinks!
  7:14pm
pgw in mntclr:

male Hummel fan = Hony?
  7:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

Too many problems with the dry erase board, someone print out a sheet of numbers and laminate it!
  7:18pm
Matt from Springfield:

That is true--I feel better not knowing something if Bronwyn doesn't know it either. Was it *really* that important if Bronwyn C. didn't know it?
  7:18pm
nono:

bet he knew what hummels are.
  7:19pm
Matt from Springfield:

@pgw: Really? Was that out of embarassment of how paramedics would find you, or a desire to bring "closure" in case you didn't make it?
  7:20pm
pgw in mntclr:

it was indeed "embarassment of how paramedics would find you"
  7:21pm
nono:

how is occupy doing these days, mr activist?
  7:22pm
nono:

oh boy , here we go.
  7:22pm
Matt from Springfield:

I'd only be concerned about deleting certain sections of Internet history--everyone already knows my place is a mess! Hope your panic attacks are doing better though, pgw.
  7:24pm
Ike:

I didn't get into Mad Men immediately because it accurately depicts a lot of gruesome, uncomfortable casual sexism (and now racism too) that our culture as a whole would rather forget ever happened. (The ratings reflect that -- not that great despite all the hype, but good enough by AMC's low standards.) But besides that, it has a lot of carefully-observed (and sometimes-glacial) character studies. Some of the characters are fascinating despite their repulsive behavior.
  7:24pm
pgw in mntclr:

yeah, did that too. the attacks are very few and far between.
  7:26pm
Ralphine:

Are the people in Utah going to know when I'm not at home so they can send people to burglarize my house?
  7:26pm
glenn:

you mean how betty draper is a psychopath?
  7:26pm
Yet Another Dave in Philly:

If what you say is true, we are all better off not posting crap here. So why do I keep doing that?
  7:28pm
Matt from Springfield:

Heart attack/death on 9/11, "undisclosed location" for weeks, that was the first artificial robot heart. About 10 years later, warranty's over, starts to falter, now Cheney needs a new one.
  7:28pm
the glowing one:

they have printed out a muscle with a 3D printer, not functional of course, it's for testing new medication on human tissue...
  7:29pm
Ralphine:

My favorite part of Century of the Self was the part about the lesbian nuns.
  7:29pm
Bipartisan:

All this politics-based obsession with Cheney's transplant makes it clearer than ever that anyone who wants to totally politicize healthcare nationally is volunteering for a Lord of the Flies situation run on ideological lines.
  7:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

"Stay there, catching turnstile jumpers where you belong! We need DNA swabs of all the turnstile jumpers!"
  7:33pm
Bipartisan:

The NYPD should wait for any bombing or similar threat that is planned elsewhere against NYC residents to emerge really clearly right here inside NYC. After all, that worked so well in 1993 and 2001.
  7:33pm
nono:

you are not that important , stop the paranoia
  7:33pm
Matt from Springfield:

Well that's not as snazzy as you think. Target knows if you've bought condoms from them--and they then assume you're pregnant, because obviously their cheap condoms don't work!
  7:35pm
the glowing one:

the FBI is doing a great job actually... recruiting people to become terrorists, it's all they do.
  7:36pm
Bipartisan:

Target has no idea what you buy if you pay cash. Take control of your life and leave off the unattractive whinging.
  7:37pm
glenn:

i didn't see any whinging.
  7:37pm
the glowing one:

yeah, that's what you can do. what bipartisan, too. consumers ARE the data collectors.
  7:38pm
Sean:

The irony of the totalizing surveillance the state/corporations are creating is that they seek to render themselves useless. If anything, "soft power" produces and regulates our behavior. If they are successful, we don't even need to be watched. We'll be doing what they want anyway.
  7:38pm
the glowing one:

"too"? I wanted to say "said"... :O
  7:38pm
Bipartisan:

"companies and the government are gonna get poor little me" = whinging
  7:39pm
the glowing one:

you aren't journalists
  7:39pm
Yet Another Dave in Philly:

Because the NYPD has a citizenry composed of the 2nd largest Jewish pop in the world behind them. a militant push is required. I feel badly for the French Jew, outnumbered 100-fold and now suffering.
Bill Mahr said it best; MULTIPLY or be swept away. Get busy, you non goys, and soon!
  7:39pm
nono:

isn't it whining ?
  7:41pm
pgw in mntclr:

yes, it is whining. whinging is a primarily british spelling
  7:41pm
the glowing one:

people should be outraged, being outraged is not whining. haha.
  7:41pm
Andrew Waterloo:

By allowing this much now are we setting precedence that we'll never be able to reverse?
  7:43pm
kevinC:

out to get you for what?!
  7:44pm
Ike:

NY Times has improved a lot and is not as snooty as it used to be. Should we not believe important reporting about, for instance, Florida laws causing new voter registration suppression? Check it out:
http://nyti.ms/HdSiec
  7:44pm
nono:

replace those krampons with tampons climber boy.
  7:44pm
kevinC:

It's quite narcissistic to think "they" give a shit about what we do.
Or are you arguing that these surveillance measures lead to thought police?
  7:45pm
pgw in mntclr:

is the data center going to be hooked into that huge mormon genealogy library?
  7:45pm
Bipartisan:

#FirstWorld"Problems"

  7:47pm
kevinC:

the ruling class doesn't give a crap about what I do,
"they" just want me to keep on consuming,
  7:48pm
the glowing one:

isn't the genealogy library open to the public already?
  7:48pm
pgw in mntclr:

that is true
  7:50pm
Bipartisan:

The Mormons do have a password-proteccted area where they like to baptize dead people (Christians, Jews, agnostics, etc.) as Mormons. An ex-Mormon has been exposing that for years. It's annoying but their little fantasy. I'm not losing sleep.
  7:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

Whichever option involved the most rolling over by Congress towards a warrantless wiretapping future.
  7:50pm
kevinC:

It's obviously the last one!
  7:50pm
duh:

let me guess
  7:51pm
Marmalade kitty:

hello Bronwyn and jay!!
  7:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

Kitty! Welcome to the panopticon dystopia!
  7:53pm
Yet Another Dave in Philly:

kevC: the way to make this work is to yell REAL LOUD about your disadvantage, caused by the unfair surveillance done to your person and how it destroyed your life. Even (perhaps especially) if it was just the security cam at Wells Fargo Bank.
EG: scratch yourself in a private area. Claim it was NOT because you have pubic lice, as the tape infers, etc.
You are welcome.
  7:53pm
kevinC:

where in the Gunks do you hike?
I just watched the sunset up at the Bonticou Crag last friday
  7:54pm
Scuttle:

Great show today, one of my favorite topics. JG Ballard, SF writer addressed stuff like this in the 60s
  7:54pm
kevinC:

hahaha,
very good
  7:55pm
Ralphine:

All you have to do is throw in a few "milieu"s and this'll be just like Dave Emory.
  7:56pm
the glowing one:

I've been interested in JG Ballard for a long time now, haven't had the time to read yet. he was very influential on the british new wave scene.
  7:56pm
kevinC:

that FB stuff is grabage,
Why would anyone NEED your password!?
  7:56pm
Matt from Springfield:

Nooooo. Of course employers are getting info you post on FB, but if they can't figure out how to hack that info themselves, I ain't fucking helping them.
  7:57pm
nono:

go buy another gun
  7:57pm
Kat:

My Facebook is under a fake name. Would an employer believe me if I said I don't have a Facebook account? I'm old and stuff...
  7:57pm
Ralphine:

Everything Dave Emory says is true!
  7:58pm
the glowing one:

@kat: nowadays? hardly.
  7:58pm
kevinC:

I just hope the mainstream shows dont find out how much WFMU I listen too!
  7:58pm
Yet Another Dave in Philly:

Dead with new heart?
  7:59pm
nono:

how is occupy jay?
  7:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

Until next week, Bronwyn and Jay!
Good night everybody!
  7:59pm
chad from oregon:

Too soon.
  8:00pm
kevinC:
