Listener comments!

  7:04pm
cb1:

Holy Mo! The new sound system is finally working. You are streaming all over the house. Dee-licious.
  7:07pm
miss cheri:

good evening monica!!!super start!!
  7:08pm
cb1:

Mama is gonna want the 3 sharps fo' sure
  7:08pm
G:

I think Monica may have, moodwise, the most timeslot-relevant playlists of anyone on the station. Of course, because of how modern workweeks are set up, Sunday evening is a more distinctive timeslot than most timeslots during the week...
Avatar 7:10pm
monica:

cb1 - so happy for new sound system in effect. three sharps and a flat for mama...good evening, miss cheri... G - that is super sweet, thanks.
  7:13pm
glenn:

uhhh, so what key would three sharps and a flat be?
Avatar 7:16pm
monica:

good question, glenn! you tell me.
  7:16pm
frenchee:

Hi MONICA!
I won the bulk of the MEGA-millions and I'm-a buy your apartment for your highest asking price--and maybe an extra mil just 'cause I likes ya so much.
  7:17pm
G:

Three sharps is Dmaj (and its relative minor), and one flat is Fmaj (and its relative minor, Dmin). There's no key with both sharps and flats at once in the key signature.

I suspect the group name is more a wording pun (or a comment on how on/off-key the performers sing or play) than a technical musical-key joke.
  7:17pm
Jeff:

Hey, lady! Welcome into our home again of a Sunday evening, this time clearly to celebrate Ted's birthday. Yes, Ted Leonard is an April Fool's baby. You can kind of tell, can't you?
  7:17pm
G:

I meant Amaj, not Dmaj. Tired after a long weekend!
  7:19pm
frenchee:

happy b'day TED! He does have that April Fule glow...
  7:19pm
8 1/2:

E va bene.
  7:21pm
Jeff:

Like the court jester: the only one allowed to tell the absolute truth and keep his head.
Avatar 7:21pm
monica:

frenchee - awesome! i'll throw in the living rug....... Oh, Jeff - thanks for reminding me about Ted's bday. Must make proper notification!!... Damn, G - you broke it DOWN... 8 1/2 is almost 9, and not quite 10. but still pretty good...
  7:23pm
cb1:

Mo, I can't even begin to tell you how great you sound tonight.
  7:24pm
miss cheri:

monica---have you got any cool easter plans??
  7:25pm
listener gary:

Nino Rota 8 1/2 best movie ever made. Thank you dj monica and good evening.
Avatar 7:28pm
monica:

hi there, listener gary - can't go too far wrong with rota! thanks for dropping by.... miss cheri, gonna watch some quality boob tube.... cb1 - it's your new speakers!
  7:31pm
glenn:

  7:35pm
Parq:

Miss Monica, your sound is a welcome capper to what I'm pleased to say has been a lovely restful weekend. You are the "Ed Sullivan Show" of my current era.
  7:36pm
Fred A.:

Like an Easter Parade!
  7:40pm
glenn:

because god knows, new york doesn't have enough churches.
  7:42pm
Parq:

I have a FB friend who is a minister and asks once a week, "How can I pray for you this week?" I always tell her things like, "I'll have my usual, thanks."
  7:42pm
8 1/2:

Well if that don't take the rag off'n the bush - Praise the lard and pass the admonition!
  7:43pm
Listener Bill:

as I get older I am less tolerant with the religeous types...back off, I say
  7:44pm
Deed:

I find prayers meditative. And, sometimes my prayers are answered.
  7:45pm
glenn:

cool. in that case, could you pray for me to win the lottery?
  7:46pm
Maggie:

agree with listener Bill! Monica, here's my prayer, and it goes like this: "Lo-wurd, save me from your followers..."
Avatar 7:47pm
monica:

oh, parq, that's a lovely sentiment... fred a. - spot on!
  7:48pm
G:

On prayer, pro or con: I try to live and let live with whatever people want to do to manage their own lives -- which, after all, are always hard enough to begin with.

I think about things that might be, but I don't ask a hypothetical personification to gift me w/ goodies or enlightenment. I usually ask myself to come up with some enlightenment by thinking more.
  7:48pm
miss cheri:

mo--i really hate to trouble you but do you have any early easter related tunes?
  7:50pm
glenn:

my ex's sister and hubby moved from ottawa to sacramento 8 years or so ago. the second question people asked them, after the usual variation on the canadian winter theme, was ALWAYS "which church will you attend". always.
  7:51pm
gail:

This past summer a couple in their 20's came by with the Jehovah's Witness rag. The guy was freaked out. All 4 of my dogs expressed their anti-religious sentiments by barking insanely, The young man held back but the girl laughed and came in and played with the dogs. She was a smokin' Russian girl who did NOT give off the usual ministerial vibe. We played and played tricks and treats with the dogs until her partner finally made her leave. SO FUN
  7:51pm
G:

@gail: Flirt! :-P
  7:52pm
glenn:

huh. here, we call smokin' russian girls strippers.
  7:52pm
ab:

Meant to go to NPR and clicked here by "mistake". Maybe someone prayed for me. Your playlist is amazing > a lot of thought and soul into it is apparent. Brava!
  7:52pm
gail:

blushing
  7:53pm
G:

  7:54pm
gail:

  7:55pm

  7:55pm

  7:59pm
gail:

I had never seen so well put together a JW either. elegant eye liner, lipstick and the reg crow like black suit. On her it came really close to looking good too
  7:59pm
anne:

our downstairs neighbors in crown heights, brooklyn were indians from the mauritius islands who were hardcore christians. they'd pray for us and bring us generous plates of food every now and then. in fact, the whole neighborhood was prayerful, our place was in the heart of the luvabitcher community. when we moved to chicago a few months ago, the indian neighbors called us to say they were still praying for our good luck and health!
Avatar 8:00pm
monica:

anne - that's a great story, lady.
  8:00pm
marci:

Monica- yr question made me think of the saying "all prayers are answered- and sometimes the answer is no". Which is not to say I don't pray all the time ("please let that train be a local- yesssss!" etc)
  8:02pm
miss cheri:

well anyway mo,, happy easter!!!!
  8:05pm

Maxine Brown! Right C. Great Mighty Sparrow - your firin' on all cylinders, Mo. I wish you could've heard Dr. John do 'Smiles with You' with a Prof. Longhair backbeat.
  8:47pm
Jeff:

Younger than Springtime's from South Pacific (Rodgers & Hammerstein, so presumably Oscar Hammerstein II penned immortal phrases like:

I touch you hand and my heart grows strong [or is it "arms grow strong"?]

Like a pair of birds that burst with song).

Either way, it gets pretty baroque.

And of course I grew up listening to the cast recording of South Pacific where the French guy has an Italian accent.

(Ezio Pinza, y'know.)
  8:50pm
