Coming around the far post-modern and heading for home.
  5:54pm glenn:

it's beeeeeeeeeetlebaum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Doug Schulkind:

The quote gracing tonight's playlist was something Scotty wrote in a friend's high school yearbook in 1954.
  5:56pm ndbob:

This piece features the woodwind maestro Tony Scott on piano.
  6:09pm ken:

LaFaro's tone is so singing! I never really heard it like this...so full...
  6:10pm Hugo:

Forward the bass!
  6:12pm Mike East:

Hey glenn - thanks for the link on BT's playlist. Looks like it is probably a 1968 B45 12 string.
  6:12pm marcury:

All Hail Scotty, the Lafaroist Cat out there
  6:13pm glenn:

the gibson website is a wonderful thing, i gotta say.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Doug Schulkind:

You can get one helluva lujah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Doug Schulkind:

Coming up, a rather astonishing document: A 22-minute rehearsal tape exposing the innerworkings of Bill Evans and Scott LaFaro who were preparing for the recording session that would produce "Sunday at the Village Vanguard." It was recorded 10 days before LaFaro died.
  6:38pm marcury:

motian hard t I've always though it was more like motion
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Doug Schulkind:

I heard Evans say MO-tee-un, too, but all accounts extant indicate that Motian himself pronounced his name MO-shun.
  6:53pm listener james from jarlsberg:

no hint in the world while he was playing that he'd be gone in 10 days and that this recording would be all the more vital as a document.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Doug Schulkind:

This tape (and the interview as well) remained unheard since the early/mid '60s. George Klabin, the fellow doing the interview, runs a small label, Resonance Records, and he released these two vital documents on "Pieces of Jade."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm Doug Schulkind:

----PROGRAMMING NOTE----
At about 6:07, I am going to fade this tape down though it will have several more minutes to go. The reason for this is the archive for tonight's broadcast will cut off at 6:09. Once I finish the show, I will come back on and play the rest of the rehearsal tape.
  7:01pm ndbob:

sounds good Doug
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02pm Doug Schulkind:

If I hadn't blabbered so much earlier, it would've all fit. Oh well.
  7:08pm listener james from jarlsberg:

i'm in for the last 5 min too. thanks for celebrating scott's birthday with us all, doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm Doug Schulkind:

Hearing LaFaro SINGING here is almost unbearably poignant.
  7:14pm ndbob:

excellent show Doug!
  9:25am Brain in KU:

After listening to 'In rehearsal' & the closing theme cuts in, it was like waking from a reverie.
Never heard Bill Evans talk, do not remember any words when we saw him.
  3:07pm Van in DC:

Time for me to GTDS.
  3:14pm Doug S.:

This show goes nicely with a double espresso, Van.
  3:38pm Van in DC:

This show would go nicely with pretty much anything. Loving it! Sounding wonderful, and I didn't know of Scott, either.

Belated thanks for the joy this is bringing me! :)
