Good morning Scott and all
I keep telling myself I need to see Forsyth & Holtkamp live. And get that record

northguineahills:

Good morning to everyone. It's a good one!

Good morning all.

Chris from DC:

Yeah, killer record. I need to pick this one up.
  9:29am

Hi, Pi! Hey, everybody!
  9:30am
BSI:

What everybody said!
  9:34am
Nathan:

Liking this direction.
  9:34am
Berg:

well done Scott - I was going to leave work early but now you left me incapable of taking the earplugs out..
  9:35am
Nathan:

@BSI I'm assuming that you survived bringing your progeny to work day...
  9:35am
Nathan:

On a side note I always wanted to start a band called Midi-evil.
  9:40am
Electric Cowbell:

great show so far. that chris forsyth + koen holtkamp is killer.
  9:40am
fred:

Hey Berg, are you in Paris?
  9:41am
Berg:

@fred: oui!
  9:41am
Brian in UK:

Mornin' Scott.

ngh did you score?
  9:43am
Cecile:

sounds like some kind of half-assed dope reference, Gerald.
  9:43am
BSI:

@Nathan: I did indeed survive, although some regenerative therapy was required afterwards (via corner pub).
  9:43am
fred:

Brian Turner too, and he does a DJ set tonight: http://goo.gl/HrD3i

Interesting how every year (take yr.kid to work day), the big company shredder seems to be the scene of a massive crazy-attack.
  9:45am
fred:

@Berg: my previous comment was meant for you
  9:45am
Nathan:

Yeah I think it's a weed reference, back when you purchased by the Lid. Which was before my time. Now it's all metric.
  9:46am
Nathan:

@BSI I still love a good shredder.. I mean. come on, in goes order out comes chaos!
  9:46am
Berg:

@fred : was checking out the url: GREAT! THANKS! but where is it??
  9:48am
northguineahills:

@Brian: Yeah, the interview, when it finally happened 4.25 hours late, went really well. Now I meet w/ founders of this new startup next week. I think they want me to do some php GIS scripts, which I haven't done in a decade, but I'm pretty sure it's in my noggin somewhere.
  9:48am
BSI:

Shredding old paperwork at home is an evil delight. It's like purging the life of poison. Also, it freaks the dog out, which is awesome bonus.
  9:48am
fred:

@berg: La Cantine De Belleville, 108 Bvd de Belleville
  9:48am

@fred: ok I see, La Cantine De Belleville. Very likely I'll be there! Anyone else here? You?

@fred: allright! A ce soir! I'll wear the WFMU bumper sticker I got in my mail yesterday from the sweepstake I won during the pledge drive ;)
  9:53am
Cecile:

Gerald, old dope talk. A hit of maryjane was once known as a lid.
  9:54am

@Berg: I'll wear the "consistently inconsistent" t-shirt, and my red WFMU bag

I saw Stars of the Lid play at a planetarium a few years back. It was super cool. You could really tell that the planetarium projectionist was stoked to do visuals along with the music.
  10:00am
northguineahills:

Thanks, Brian in UK, I need it.
  10:00am
Cecile:

tim, it probably beat having to do it to Pink Floyd to the umpteenth time.
  10:02am
Mike East:

I may have to get this Studio One Women compilation. Thanks for playing. Good morning all.
  10:02am
tim from Champaign:

Oh yeah, Cecile. I didn't even think of that.
  10:06am
Nathan:

@Cecile hahaha totally true. There are so many other albums that could conceivably be a finer laser driven constellation viewing soundtrack.
  10:07am
Cecile:

stars of the lid, pantha du prince, one million other performers would be better than hearing Dark Side of the Moon again.
  10:07am
Cecile:

hahahah nathan, great minds.
  10:08am
northguineahills:

This is a nice stark Sly & Robbie track. minimal, even.
  10:10am

yeah, made me realize their 80s records weren't as nice as I remembered.

Greetings Brother Scott all you Longrallians.
  10:17am
Cecile:

yeah, definitely. Although we "see" each other on Twitter a fair amount.

Hi, Doug!
  10:22am
Cecile:

completely on another topic, should I, as a returning graphic artist, get a subscription to Print magazine?
  10:24am
stingy d:

research:

anybody know of any animals where the male counterpart is in some way odd/inferior/goofy etc?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24am
Scott:

Humans?
  10:25am
Cecile:

yeah, the spider. The bee.
  10:25am
Cecile:

Octopus females kick ass.
  10:26am
stingy d:

already got humans covered. spiders and bees huh...
  10:26am
Cecile:

The tiger females do most of the hunting. Mother bears fend for themselves and cubs for a year or more.
  10:26am
Nathan:

@Cecile No. There are blogs and other crap for feeding the brain though I've stopped feeding nowadays and focus on producing. Magazines are so outre! Though to be honest I haven't picked up a copy of Print in about a decade.
  10:27am
northguineahills:

I'm about to bounce of to Doug's stream in about 10. It's so hard to tear myself away when Scott's killing it.

Accidentally spilled ghost pepper sauce on my brunch. This is going to get interesting.
  10:27am
stingy d:

already got the male angler fish too
  10:27am
Cecile:

Lion males are notoriously lazy.
  10:28am
Cecile:

I am in love with their Imprint blog, and just love the feel of a mag. Also, nicer to read in bed.
  10:28am
stingy d:

lazy! i can use that
  10:29am
Cecile:

They lay around, and then go hunt. But half the time the ladies are hunting for themselves and the cubs and teaching the babies how to fight and hunt.
  10:30am
northguineahills:

@Stingy d: try the angler fish: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglerfish

the male is barely a cm and attaches itself to the fearsome looking female where the female absorbs the male leaving only the testes behind. A female can absorb multiple males.
  10:30am
BSI:

@Cecile: as a career print graphic designer (with the mental scars & bags-under-eyes to prove it), I admit I haven't seen PRINT magazine in about a decade either. Same with Communication Arts and many of the other classics of the tribe...
  10:30am
As I Am:

@stingy...are you assuming that the default state is equality, or that males are usually normal/superior/not goofy?
  10:30am
northguineahills:

d'oh!
  10:31am
Cecile:

Print's blog IMPRINT is killing it these days. But I just like to look at pictures that are not on a computer screen.
  10:32am
Cecile:

Praying mantis
  10:34am
stingy d:

as i am! i don't really think i'm assuming anything about default states. but feel free to assume that i am.
  10:35am
Mike East:

space shuttle just went by and I missed it!!!
  10:35am
Cecile:

there used to be a lame reggae band in Ann Arbor called I-tal.
  10:35am
Cecile:

I happed to like human males very much. I even married one. ;)
  10:35am
Mike East:

though it may come back around cuz it was going north past the Intrepid...
  10:35am
stingy d:

thanks ngh. angler fish has proven to be the most intriguing of the male subsets i've found. there's also echidna's! who have a five headed penis.
  10:36am
Nathan:

@Cecile / BSI - Google Book search is a great way to see some classic type in situ and setting there are some originals in there by Bodini, Caslon, etc. Best investment I ever made was the 1923 ATF Type Specimen Book. Often referred to..

  10:37am
Mark Williams:

i was in the shower and maybe i misheard you, but if you said they started off as "Ethiopian" and then switched later to "EthiopianS," you got it the wrong way round. Leonard Dillon was the main "Ethiopian" and he started off calling himself Jack Sparrow. Then he met some dudes and they became The Ethiopians, around 1966. It's all on Wikipedia probably, but for the record...
  10:38am
stingy d:

you see- the reason i even ask is because i'm drawing a comic book of animal themed your mother jokes. figured i might try to throw in some your father jokes too!
  10:38am
Cecile:

That's great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40am
Scott:

Wow, you're right Mark. I totally thought in my brain that they were first Ethiopian! Weird.
  10:40am
Cecile:

Nathan, duly noted.
I also found a great app called Typography Insight. Good refresher for me, haven't taken a design class since 1983!

it's time for the percolator
it's time for the percolator
it's time for the percolator
  10:41am
Nathan:

Yeah Yeah let's percolate!
  10:42am
Nathan:

@cecile Ooh... If I still had a smart phone! Having lost mine, I'm back with a dumb phone. Which I kind've like.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am
Scott:

I've been wrong before. (Like every week.)
  10:42am
Cecile:

my favorite comment on YouTube on Percolator was "this was my audition song for Juilliard and I will never forgive myself for forgetting the lyrics." ha!
  10:43am
Cecile:

I have an iPod touch and a dumb phone too. Can't even text. Love it.
  10:43am
stingy d:

i recently decided to be the smart one in my phone relationship. its been a blessing. gotta actually think things through. god forbid.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am
Scott:

Cool, Nathan. Yeah, I've been playing some electronic stuff each week of late.
  10:45am
Cecile:

I have talked way too much on the phone in my line of work over the last 30 years. I so prefer email over the phone.
  10:45am
Nathan:

oh i can hear that bassline.
  10:46am
Mike East:

I saw the Enterprise!
  10:47am
Cecile:

awesome, Mike East!
  10:47am
Peter:

hi, earlier when Scott was announced we had just heard Dawn of Midi - The Black Danger, it was not actually what was playing. Does anyone know what track was playing? Around 9:35ish...
  10:49am
Mark Williams:

no worries Scott. It's nice someone's even playing the old JA stuff, so thanks for that.
  10:50am
BSI:

Nice on the type specimens, Nathan... I used to have a stack of old issues of u&lc from the '70s, great for accidental inspiration.
  10:53am
Nathan:

@Gerald I use it because I work alone and my dogs aren't great conversationalists. To me it's the water cooler. Kind've like this here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am

Peter, that was Four Tet "Ribbons" I think. Bed music I occasionally use.
  10:53am

@BSI Those are great as well... if only to see Avant Garde used properly.
  10:54am
Nathan:

@Scott that's the one.

Adorable stuff, despite the (what became) much-overused Friz Quadrata...
  10:57am
Cecile:

do you know old issues of u&Ic are available to download from fonts.com? I just looked it up.
  10:57am

@BSI I'll check that out! Thanks.
