  12:25pm
Mike East:

I feel wet socks on my feet...which tells me, sadly, that there's a hole in my boots. Enjoying the reggae, though.
  12:25pm
Miller:

Illyah Kuryakin is the best tune yet, on par with Ali Baba.
  12:26pm
allan:

  12:26pm
dc pat:

merely repeating what others have uttered...

Ilyah Kuryakin? Man, I use to watch Man from UNCLE
  12:27pm
Caryn:

Well, Illyah was a cool dude, so a track named after him is bound to be good.
  12:28pm
Cecile:

Johnny Nash!
  12:28pm
Miller:

My name is Ilya, btw)
  12:30pm
Caryn:

I always thought Napoleon Solo was a total square, but Ilyah was cool with his longer hair, turtlenecks and tight t-shirts.
  12:31pm
allan:

awesome this john jones is my fav after ali baba. maybe play it 2 or 3 more times.
  12:33pm
dc pat:

yeah, we loved Kuryakin, his gun was really cool too. Didn't give a damn about Solo
  12:41pm
Denise from DC:

I never noticed his gun -- I just liked his hair.
  12:43pm
Caryn:

I think we can all agree that Solo sucked and Kuryakin ruled. Even as kids, we all had great taste, apparently.
  12:43pm
robyn:

i know almost nothing about reggae. i do like "ok fred."
  12:44pm
Caryn:

  12:45pm

  12:48pm
βrian:

No mp3 service here.
  12:55pm
dc pat:

I have 128k loud and clear.

Kuryakin's gun was this german pistol with a long silencer, shoulder stock, and s scope on it. My brother had a model of it.
  12:56pm
Jeremy Shatan:

I'm listening through iTunes and it's been flawless.
  12:57pm
dc pat:

  12:57pm
northguineahills:

You can never steer wrong w Folkways recs.
  12:57pm
Caryn:

  12:58pm
βrian:

Still nada, but wxyc is coming in strong ...
  1:00pm
Duane:

Ilyah was one of my Uncle Derrick's fashion hero according to my Dad
  1:01pm
Jeremy Shatan:

It's amazing how many great soul versions there are of this song - I bet even Robbie Krieger is surprised! I love Erma Franklin's take.
  1:02pm
Duane:

Jeremy Shatan: Yes, Erma's version is awesome!!
  1:07pm
dale:

i've always loved this version of who tune

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IjdJG1p-IVw
  1:09pm
Jeremy Shatan:

I didn't realize Percy was still working when Summer Breeze came out. Perfect sound for a bittersweet ending to an episode of the Rockford Files.
  1:09pm
Adler:

we are doing some maintenance. flash live and mp4 archives are down now
  1:09pm
mikebee:

Great show as usual Duane! Greetings from San Francisco. :)
  1:10pm
Duane:

Thank you mikebee:) Cheers!!
  1:13pm
Neg-guh-tor:

This Swing Out song is dangerously close to Lisa Stansfield Duane! Don't make me like her!
  1:14pm
dale:

whatever became of basia?
  1:15pm
Neg-guh-tor:

Don't make me like Basia, Duane!
  1:16pm
Neg-guh-tor:

I'm too old to reconsider Basia!
  1:17pm
Caryn:

@dale: ooh, nice horns and harmonies! Nice version, thanks!
  1:17pm
Duane:

Neg-guh-tor: I got some Lisa for ya :) Kiddin!
Dale: Basia's got a great Francois K12" remix of "New day for you" that kicks!
Neg-guh-tor: Basia's a tougher sale than Lisa, but I can drop Basia on ya subliminal stylee
  1:19pm
Neg-guh-tor:

Noooooooooooo!
  1:19pm
dale:

right caryn? new seekers totally blew it out of the water!!
  1:21pm
dale:

  1:22pm
Cecile:

  1:24pm
Neg-guh-tor:

Duane:

  1:24pm
Cecile:

not a problem, enjoy in good health!
  1:24pm
Denise from DC:

This Dino, Desi and Billy tune is lovely.
  1:26pm
mikebee:

entire office here in SF remarking how great the show is today - including one staffer who says this is the only show on WFMU she's ever liked, but I don't think the rest of us agree with that...plus forcing us to discuss Swing Out Sister is always a plus. I agree Lisa is an easier sell - you've got Coldcut production behind her earliest stuff!
  1:27pm
Adler:

flash stream and pop-up player are back online
  1:28pm
Caryn:

@dale: damn straight! Now I actually need to hunt out the album.
  1:29pm
Duane:

Hahaha! Cheers MikeBee. I'm a huge Swing Out Sister apologist. They have some of the best arrangements in Pop music. Jimmy Webb did all the arrangements for Kaleidoscope World, where "Heart for Hire" is from. SPotty record with awesome moments.
  1:29pm
dale:

tony and the tigers could totally beat up dino desi and billy. they were two thirds of tin machine!
  1:32pm
paula pc:

here's Part 2...Rance MEANS it!!!!!!
  1:33pm
Nathan:

This is a good'un. This could almost be a piano house tune. Need that a'capella.
  1:33pm
Duane:

yessir Paula..he's a big dude too! so you bettr listen!
  1:33pm
seang:

i rode through the valley with the princess by my side
  1:37pm
Cecile:

not to mention, dale, that they were in Runt as well, backup on the two of the best Todd Rundgren albums.
  1:37pm
Cecile:

flash is back, flash is cool
  1:41pm
Cecile:

8 minutes!
  1:45pm
Cecile:

will this comp mean that they will reissue the whole 8 minutes album, or are the 2 tracks on there just the good ones?
  1:47pm
dale:

i did not know that re: the sales boys
  1:47pm
Duane:

no there's only like 3 songs on that whole thing. the albums good though cecile
  1:48pm
Cecile:

I will have to seek it out. It's probably ridiculously expensive, isn't it?
  1:49pm
Duane:

Cecile: It's pricey, but they have torrents out there floating
  1:50pm
Cecile:

I might have to float on the torrents.
  1:53pm
Cecile:

later, off to lunch
  1:55pm
Mike East:

ooh, lunch. good idea. Tuna sandwich, here I come.
  2:34pm
Wildcat:

Somewhere off in the cold distance...
  2:36pm
Duane:

  2:37pm
Duane:

  2:38pm
kate:

  2:48pm
Cecile:

quiet storm!
  2:52pm
paula pc:

this is a vamp-heavy set!
  2:52pm
Denise from DC:

Oh em gee, I didn't know Etta had done this song. This is a bang-up version.
  2:54pm
Parq:

That wasn't the Etta version of "Hat" that I've heard; didn't know there was more than one.
  2:54pm
Mike East:

Fabulous show as usual Duane
  2:55pm
paula pc:

or not...
  2:55pm
paula pc:

altho I always thought Mike Nesmith was a little vampy...
  2:56pm
Duane:

paula pc: Hahaha.
Thanx Mike East!
  2:58pm
paula pc:
