Listener comments!

  9:04pm
dave:

wow, that pumice track was amazing. perfect start to the show.
  9:07pm
Martha:

Thanks - and thanks for checking in -
  9:07pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Good evening Martha. Your show is a highlight on my week.
  9:10pm
Martha:

Thanks - that is so kind of you to say -
  9:27pm
dave:

the ending of that geese track feels like the sort of thing that'd have an arena full of people swaying and singing along with lighters aloft, but i imagine geese don't play a lot of arenas and that most people who might sway sympathetically to something whose sing-along chorus is "damned for all time" probably do so alone in a darkened room in more of a fetal position.
  9:29pm
SteveL:

Slug Guts=Gun Club/Dream Syndicate progeny? (A good thing.)
  9:31pm
Destroit:

Martha, Richard, and all good people...hello! Great start Martha.
  9:32pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Greetings Destroit.
  9:33pm
Martha:

Dave - great point - and funny! And agreed on Slug Guts though most people fall back on the Birthday Party comparisons, perhaps b/c they are from Australia - and hello to all - welcome!
  9:36pm
dave:

i love that bands like pins of light (and fucked up and so on) doing really great new stuff in the hardcore vein. it makes me feel less old. plus it's still awesome.
  9:38pm
SteveL:

This Pins of Light track is rather epic. This whole set has what I need to get ready for the week to begin again. Gratzie.
  9:40pm
Martha:

Yeah- well stated on Pins of Light - I'm still trying to get my head around this album which initially seemed so straightforward but is, uh, not...
  9:41pm
Martin:

Good stuff, Martha!
  9:51pm
Martha:

Thanks!
  10:21pm
r in va:

Great music tonight Martha!
  10:39pm
dave:

  10:41pm
G:

"The World is Bad" from "Giving Openhearted Answers to Burning Questions"
  10:41pm
Martha:

Ich liebe them too!
  10:45pm
Martha:

Ich liebe the translation as well! - Thanks!
  10:56pm
albie:

killin it
  10:58pm
Martha:

Thanks - for the good words and for checking in -
  10:59pm
dave:

i love the idea that daphne oram would deliberately get a cold in order to figure out how to synthesize the sound of one.

also, i now have an odd craving for analgesics.
  11:00pm
Martha:

She is truly amazing - and this is a great collection -
  11:02pm
Martha:

Also - it would be great to know what commercials her work appeared in -
  11:02pm
dave:

also ALSO even without the sounds, i'd happily listen to her say "a sort of thlDMP-thlDMP-thlDMP sound" over and over pretty much indefinitely
  11:07pm
Chesty:

Gog? Who are they? What is this? Holy hell this piece is amazing!
  11:08pm
dave:

sadly, none of the anacin commercials i can find in a quick youtube search seem to contain any oramy thlDUMPs.
  11:11pm
Martha:

Gog are out of Arizona - been releasing for a while now - I think it is essentially a project of Mike Bjella who is in a number of other outfits as well (not sure which ) -
  11:16pm
Chesty:

almost sounds like hawkwind now
  11:19pm
Martha:

Hah! - yes, def.
  11:21pm
dave:

probably not-coincidentally, trensmat put out a great series of hawkwind covers by bands like mugstar.
  11:22pm
Martha:

Thanks - I didn't know that (among many things I don't know, of course) -
  11:25pm
Chesty:

Now White Hills I recently got into. They go from straight up rock to straight up drone. Any more info on them?
  11:41pm
Martha:

I tend to think of White Hills as more psych overall - going into rock, drone, etc. from there -
  12:02am
TTTT:

Just tuning in, but I gotta say I really dig that Gelbart album
