Listener comments!

  11:50am Artie:

And this little roller coaster car clanks it's way forward to the first big drop...
  11:53am Michael:

Thank god for my reminder in outlook - howdy charlie!
  11:57am Doug S.:

Michael, if you get on the mailing list, you'll get an email reminder before every show airing on the Drummer stream. Just send a request to: drummer (at) wfmu (at) org
  11:58am ndbob:

heya Charlie and everyone!
  11:59am listener james from westwood:

i make those exact same faces when i give a taxi driver directions. i also wear that outfit. the rides end quickly.
  12:00pm listener james from westwood:

good thursday to you all!
  12:03pm Michael:

Doug - I'm on the list and got the reminder but I'm deep in work too so not checking my personal email so the reminder helps. I've got one for you and Tony now that I think of it...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm charlie:

hi bob james michael artie doug and all
  12:05pm listener james from westwood:

i had to look up whether talk talk's single "talk talk" actually appeared on an album called "talk, talk, talk." :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm charlie:

all talk, no music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Doug S.:

@Michael
As an alternative, the Stream is willing to implant a transponder in your right back molar. It works well, but you'll have to avoid TSA checkpoints at most major airports.
  12:09pm listener james from westwood:

if it's cheaper than the iphone's data plan, sign me up!
  12:09pm Michael:

I've added the stream to my somewhat new Squeezebox at home. I'll hold off on the transponder implant for a bit me thinks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm charlie:

GTDR Chip Implant!

Is it the future yet?
  12:14pm Van in DC:

Hi there Charlie. Happy Thursday all

A radio collar with tuning receiver features
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm charlie:

hiya van and tr[]sh!
they've got those innernet glasses now; what we need is a little radio receiver on top of our heads...
  12:19pm Flex:

It's like I'm in the room with ya.
  12:20pm kat330:

Hi, Charlie and all! Listening while making and now finishing lunch. This is a very interesting track indeed.

  12:23pm kat330:

@SBP: One of my earliest fave Christmas gifts was a transistor radio inside a stuffed animal -- a cat and a poodle later -- from Radio Shack. You could cuddle up at night with soft fur and hard rock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm charlie:

Hi Funkmaster Flex! Lunching kat330! Still b/p in da haus!
  12:25pm kat330:

West in the house! Heh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm charlie:

Better sound too than if the radio had actually been inside of a hard rock...
  12:25pm don:

havin a blast charlie!
  12:26pm A Phlebotomist Writes:

Hello Charlie & listeners.
Talking Heads - Radiohead. David Byrne famous Scottish clever man had it covered many moons ago.
  12:26pm kat330:

At least a softer cuddle. Sound was pretty awful as I recall. RS after all.
  12:26pm Matt from Springfield:

As long as we're listening to you busy doing nothing, we're busy doing something!
Hi charlie! Echo the Happy Thursday to everyone!
  12:26pm still b/p:

"Soft Fur and Hard Rock" will be the title of the autobiography, then?

Mae sounds a little like Lena Horne when she sings, hey?
  12:28pm Matt from Springfield:

Few times listener, first time commenting! Love the wide variety charlie brings. I entered on the Thai song--just came back from a work lunch at a Thai restaurant!
  12:29pm kat330:

Matt, you should go to the archives for the first bits, especially the Georgina Dobson piece.
  12:30pm Van in DC:

Pass the lad na please. Oh and some green curry chicken. :)
  12:31pm kat330:

@sbp: Sounds good to me. Mae in May or any other month is a delight for me. Covering one of the better Beatles riff-bit songs.
  12:32pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey Van! I considered lad na (among others), ended up going with pork pad see eaw--excellent! The rice noodles had a soft doughy quality in the center, so they were FRESH! :D
  12:33pm Van in DC:

Sounds wonderful Matt :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm charlie:

hey Matt!
@Don -- if you're an instant conductor, will you send me your new e-mail address?
  12:34pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks for the heads up, kat.
(If I'm catching up on an entire show and aren't familiar with any songs listed, I sometimes listen to the DJ backannounce segments first, to see what they have to say about their selections. I then determine which sets to play first--other times I listen start to finish if I recognize enough artists/songs throughout)
  12:36pm kat330:

Matt you needn't have whispered that last bit (parenthetically speaking).
  12:37pm Van in DC:

I love listening in on archive. I LOVE THE ARCHIVE! Big plus is being able to pause a show. Big minus is missing, well, this. The liveness and interactions.
  12:38pm Van in DC:

Plus I get to eat the leftover donuts and stuff on the archive. And find things like the kewpie doll in GTDS that somebody forgot.
  12:39pm kat330:

@Van: Yes, the best part of expanding my FMU experience last December was the live interactions -- other people actually hearing the same sounds at the same time and sharing their impressions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm charlie:

Welcome to comments, Matt -- I really like "Thai"-ing things together!
  12:41pm Matt from Springfield:

ALTHEA & DONNA!!!! "No pop, no style, us strictly roots!" Joe McG's played this before! LUV LUV LUV it!! Their 'alter back give you a 'art attack!! :)
  12:42pm ndbob:

great song - I bought this when it came out... had read about it, but had no idea what it sounded like
  12:43pm Matt from Springfield:

Happy to join this board, charlie!
Perhaps Thai restaurants should partner with WFMU shows for more "Thai-ins"!
  12:44pm Van in DC:

If it weren't for archive I would never get to hear Julie's show, and WOW what a show she put together this week!
  12:45pm Matt from Springfield:

Wow, NDbob, you were pretty hip to reggae.
(I liked listening to the A&D while watching Bugs in the GIF--they went together well! Neneh Cherry is also working, but not as funny as A&D :)
  12:45pm listener james from westwood:

neneh cherry in here. yeaaaah!!
  12:46pm northguineahills:

My copy of Althea & Donna's "Uptown Top Ranking" has a scratch on it, so it skips now. Can't dj w/ it any more :(
  12:46pm still b/p:

Oh, I SEE what EW did there.
  12:46pm listener james from westwood:

i download many of the shows i listen to and a lot of ones i'm not awake to hear. i'll be hearing this show again sometime in august. will be equally delighted.
  12:46pm Matt from Springfield:

@Van: As I've said many times, (everybody now!) "Archives are half the joy of WFMU!!"
No other station has such a listener-friendly online presence--they've earned my loyalty! And I'm caught up with Julie's show as well--that was fantastic.
  12:47pm trouble:

go sharlie!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm charlie:

hey trouble!
  12:51pm Matt from Springfield:

'nother funny picture sync with Bugs :)
  12:51pm Van in DC:

...speaking of great shows...hi trouble!
  12:54pm kat330:

@Trouble: Always listening to your show even if not commenting. You had me with the first birdsong. :)
  1:03pm Doug S.:

@Trouble
You pronounce "Charlie" like Jorge Ben. Make that Zhorzhay Bang.
  1:04pm trouble:

hey kat330, the positive vibe is always in the house, it must be from your constant listening!
  1:05pm trouble:

@doug s. sharlie is my favorite franco-brazilio dj! hey to you too!
  1:07pm don:

hey charlie, just caught your response.. i sent ya some words!
  1:10pm kat330:

An unshellfish relative of spongebob?
  1:11pm Matt from Springfield:

Bringing Manfred Mann into the 21st century. What a silly century this is...
  1:13pm Matt from Springfield:

Great Paul's Boutique cut--EFD was playing a lot from that last night, including this one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm charlie:

thanks, @Don!
Paul's Boutique -- such a great album!
  1:23pm kat330:

Speaking of sound affects, anyone else experiencing weird jumps in volume level?
  1:25pm Matt from Springfield:

Never heard this Association before--heavenly harmonies! Also thx for Saint Etienne, they were a great band.

@kat: Yes actually, on the Association song it keeps going up and down, don't know if it's an MP3 compression thing or what...
  1:25pm kat330:

Not happening on FMU stream, so it's not my Allegro this time.
  1:26pm Matt from Springfield:

Beth S!
"Now my empty cup tastes as sweet as the punch!" The lyric I always remember from this song!
  1:28pm seang:

no weird jumps in volume, but some hiccups
  1:29pm kat330:

Not sure I have this straight, but is this Beth S) Irwin's wife? The Association was someone saying the 7SD theme was sung by Irwin's GF or wife. Her version is far and wide the best, and this cover was quite nice as well.
  1:31pm Matt from Springfield:

Not wife--you can never hitch that man down! But, long-term GF, yes.
  1:32pm Matt from Springfield:

Put reverb on that!
"NO - GO-ING - BAAAAAAAAAACCCCK!!!!" :)
  1:33pm kat330:

Aha, thanks, Matt.
  1:34pm tr[]sh:

Unless in time, listening through the archives.
  1:35pm Matt from Springfield:

@tr[]sh: But, no leaving the FMU Family in any case :)
  1:41pm kat330:

May I leave the family for a moment just to fetch my laundry from the line? I'll be right back, promise!
  1:41pm Michael:

What a maroon!
  1:42pm listener james from westwood:

i can still get a laff out of my friends w "shaddup shaddenup!"
  1:43pm Matt from Springfield:

Miss Nazario also just played a Bugs Bunny cartoon--the voice acting, score and sound engineering are so good that those old cartoons work very well over radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:43pm charlie:

It's a classic! You can watch it on YouTube. Synopsis here: en.wikipedia.org...
  1:46pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks charlie!
That unmistakable Bryter Layter production! Thanks for this Nick Drake too!
  1:47pm northguineahills:

Yeah, Matt, and I don't hear enough Nick Drake lately either....
  1:48pm kat330:

Thanks for the link, Charlie, esp. since I missed everything after he said "laundry," which synched with when I posted "laundry." Looney.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm charlie:

True @Matt about the sound production on those cartoons
  1:50pm kat330:

One of my fave Bugs involved Liszt' "Hungarian Rhapsody" (#2, I believe).
  1:52pm tr[]sh:

"Oh-ver-ture"

Chelmsford Community Band
  1:53pm Van in DC:

Huh. Interesting. Was this a cover or the original of this song...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm charlie:

I think the Teddybears version was the orig.
  1:54pm Matt from Springfield:

@kat: "Longhair Hare" or a title like that--one of the best Mel Blanc Classical music tributes.
  1:56pm Doug S.:

  1:56pm seang:

throw ya hands in the air, and wave them like ya just don't care
  1:57pm Michael:

Not Long Haired Hare, maybe Rhapsody Rabbit. Too many afternoons in front of Channel 5...
  1:57pm listener james from westwood:

i hope i retain the ability to lmao at "dy-no-MITE!" until i'm in my dotage.
