  9:03pm G:

Same year as The Doors? Hard to believe :-)
9:07pm dan in falls church VA:

Hi Mike, thanks for the e-mail message that you'd be here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:12pm Mike Sin:

OK -- Let's roll!
  9:12pm Richard from Venezuela:

Good evening Mike. Thanks for the email advice.

  9:20pm texas scott:

is there a newsletter i missed?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Mike Sin:

Scott -- Just doin email promo! Hello Richard from Venezuela! Hi Dan! What up, G?
  9:25pm G:

Late 60s is up!
  9:27pm Matt from Springfield:

Phew! Almost missed PGB's short notice fill-in last week--but this time, I come prepared!

Hello Mike! Glad that you're on!
Hi TS, G, Dan, Richard and Cynnkitty!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm frenchee:

I love all the fill-ins! Tonite is all f-ins all the way thru to 5/28
  9:32pm doctor b.:

Great "garage pop" show. Hope it's weekly and not a one-shot!
  9:33pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi frenchee!
I was pleased at first by Julie's 12-3, non-weeknight fill-in. Then when I found Amanda and Mike Sin were on before and after, I knew I would have to glue my ears to the speakers tonight! (applies super glue to ears)
  9:41pm Matt from Springfield:

E-lec-tri-cal Ba-na-na...
  9:42pm doctor b.:

Gonna be the very next phase!
  9:42pm Matt from Springfield:

"I first saw them play in 1966 at a club called The Electrical Banana. Don't look for it, it's not around anymore..."

Still, that's a good found, the "lost" Pretty Things.
  9:44pm Matt from Springfield:

LOL Doctor B!

Mike Sin isn't a one-shot, but he's not on the regular schedule either. You can enter your email and request to be on Mike Sin's email list; he sends reminders when he's going to do a fill-in. I think that service is worth it, Optical Sound is excellent!
9:48pm dan in falls church VA:

Wow, that Electric Mess track was cool! That band all news to me. From Brooklyn--of course! Brooklyn being the center of the universe.

Hey Mike, who's that in the studio with you?
9:49pm dan in falls church VA:

Hola Matt from Springfield
  9:55pm Matt from Springfield:

Hola, Dan from up-the-road in Falls Church!
  10:03pm Mike Sin:

Folks -- Thanks for commenting. We're having a good time here... maybe too good!
  10:04pm G:

As long as no one gets hurt, no such thing as too good a time!
  10:05pm Matt from Springfield:

I had too good of a time yesterday...only hurts after the fact, but still totally worth it!

True that, G!
10:08pm dan in falls church VA:

Matt, are you in Springfield, Virginia? Have we been through this before?
  10:09pm Matt from Springfield:

@Dan: Oh I have...but in case you haven't: YES! :)
10:10pm dan in falls church VA:

Ha, turns out I have that Electric Banana / Pretty things, I'm gonna have to check it out.
  10:10pm Richard from Venezuela:

Killer set tonight
10:11pm dan in falls church VA:

Hey Matt, I lived in Springfield VA for 5 or 6 years as a boy!
  10:12pm Matt from Springfield:

Cool Dan! I keep saying that everyone in the whole world will eventually filter through Springfield VA, at least temporarily!
  10:12pm Bruce in Saskatoon ,SK:

10:21pm dan in falls church VA:

@ Matt, yeah, if they ever drive or ride a bus between the Northeast and the Southeast of the US of A, they will loop through Springfield VA for sure! I wonder if a big airport will one day be built there, or perhaps a space port!
  10:22pm G:

One of my uncles used to live in Reston (80s) and then Loudon County (90s/00s), so I'm sure I've filtered through or by Springfield at some point...
10:24pm dan in falls church VA:

Hey G:, yeah, Reston is part of the local mess here.
  10:25pm Matt from Springfield:

Spaceport Springfield!
10:27pm dan in falls church VA:

That Mount Camel track was cool, I can't find nuffin' about no Mount Camel band on the internets tho
10:29pm dan in falls church VA:

What a great show, Mike! :D :D :D
  10:31pm Matt from Springfield:

What Dan said!
Love this Artful Dodger too! Power pop I never heard of until now.
  10:34pm G:

wikipedia: "Artful Dodger (formed in 1973 in Fairfax, Virginia)"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm frenchee:

lookit that! Hey G, can you look up Forminx? I don't have time....
  10:38pm Mike Sin:

Hey Dan -- Thanks! re: Artful Dodger -- Unfortunately only one of their four LPs has been officially reissued.
  10:41pm G:

(The) Forminx was Vangelis's first band. Check the page devoted to the band on his website:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm frenchee:

oooh, Vangelisssssss! Thanks, G!
10:45pm dan in falls church VA:

Rocket Summer, it's sort of a spaceport song!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm frenchee:

Spaceport was the videodrome hangout in my college town
It had a photo booth
  10:48pm Matt from Springfield:

"Rocket Summer" works for that. And Vangelis! The fun and knowledge never ends tonight!
10:49pm dan in falls church VA:

Holy cow, Artful Dodger is from Fairfax VA, did you catch that, Matt? That's right here adjacent to Springfield & Falls Church & sh*t, did Mike do that on porpoise?
10:50pm dan in falls church VA:

@frenchee, every space port should have a photo booth!
  10:52pm Lulu:

Show sounds great!!
  10:52pm Matt from Springfield:

Yes Dan, impressed that such a cool, high-energy 70s rock group formed where I buy my vinyl records now!
  10:53pm Chicago Alex:

Seconded. Great show.
  10:53pm G:

After the band broke up, some members of the band moved back to northern VA and went into other lines of work (motorcycle shop, etc.):

10:58pm dan in falls church VA:

Regarding Andromeda -- Lonely Streets, I like the mix/version on Andromeda - Originals much better than the one on Definitive Collection. So did John Du Cann. The other tracks on Originals sound superior to their other releases. "Originals" is taken from acetates and is mixed and sequenced much as Du Cann had originally conceived for the album. Check it! A much more satisfying presentation of the Andromeda material to my ears. http://www.amazon.com/Originals-Andromeda/dp/B000AO9OG2/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1338173710&sr=1-1
10:59pm dan in falls church VA:

Thanks for the 411 on Artful Dodger, G!
11:01pm dan in falls church VA:

@Matt, are you reffering to the Record Exchange @ Little River Turnpike/Main Street (Rt 236) and Pickett Road? I usually use CD Cellar Falls Church & Arlington locations.
  11:03pm Matt from Springfield:

Super lo-fi garagey sound on Nova Local!
@Dan: Yep, the RTX is my local. Would you rec the CD Cellar as a good vinyl shop?
  11:10pm Matt from Springfield:

Shit, just *what* was in my gin....?
Far Out Stoned Space Nuggets! Yayyyy!!! :)
  11:13pm Mike Sin:

Thanks for stickin' with me, folks!
11:14pm dan in falls church VA:

Gotta love those Far Out Stoned Space Nuggets. @Matt, sure, I mean, they (CD Cellar) have new & used vinyl, and sometimes amazing deals on used, I get stuff for $5 & take it home & clean it & sometimes find it to be in outstanding condition and probably thus worth a lot more. Not a *huge* stock at either location, I don't have much to compare them to as afar as a contemporary vinyl shop! Last time I was at the Exchange I wasn't yet shopping for vinyl (again). The FC CD Cellar is only a block from my apt.
  11:15pm Matt from Springfield:

I'm only happy to Mike!
Thank YOU for the usual wide assortment of under-heard, excellent 60s/70s tunes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm frenchee:

just for the record, I *do* know how to spell "nonenity"
  11:18pm Matt from Springfield:

Love Sculpture! Dave Edmunds' band Love Sculpture??
  11:19pm Mike Sin:

Oh yes, Dave Edmunds... wait to see who comes up next!
11:21pm dan in falls church VA:

@Matt, but yeah, I'd say both CD Cellar locations are more focused on vinyl than CD now.
  11:22pm KP:

Nonentity ... B-O-N-O.
  11:24pm KP:

Nonentity ... B-O-N-O.
11:24pm Ace from Al Ain UAE:

Dan & Mike--the record exchange is still there? I haven't been there since the early 90s, but a super groovy dude worked there who was into surf guitar and was so nice and helpful it was almost a parody. Used to frequent the record mart in olde towne, too.
  11:25pm KP:

Brinsley Schwarz = Kippington Lodge?
  11:26pm KP:

Got me googlin up a storm here, slow down.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:27pm frenchee:

hey KP, did you watch Mad Men? <giggle>
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm Julie:

Waiting for the reel-to-reels, Mike!
11:29pm dan in falls church VA:

@Ace, yeah, the Record Exchange is still there in Fairfax!
  11:30pm Matt from Springfield:

@Ace: Yes, the RTX is still there! Went there for Record Store Day. A lot of the record stores in the DC area have gone under over the past several years, but there's a few stalwarts still around.
11:31pm dan in falls church VA:

Ace, you're in UAE now fer reel?
11:31pm Ace from Al Ain UAE:

Will visit soon. Is the Olde Towne place still there? [Matt, don't know why I wrote Mike, sorry. I also did the math wrong. Wouldn't let me post. Still 7:30 am in the desert...
  11:32pm Matt from Springfield:

Whoa, that's EARLY Nick Lowe!

Hi Julie! Enthusiastically awaiting your show up next!
11:33pm Ace from Al Ain UAE:

yeah, as Matt and I have discussed in our NOVA lore roundtables, I'm from Spfld VA but have lived abroad for a long time. Am moving back in 3 weeks. Everyone still wears flannel shirts and listens to Temple of the Dog, right?
11:34pm dan in falls church VA:

@Ace, I don't know about the Record Mart, I'm afraid, I would probably be aware of it were it still around...Matt, do you know?
  11:34pm KP:

Yes i did Frenchee, how could you tell?
  11:35pm KP:

There's a record store in Fairfax?
11:36pm dan in falls church VA:

@ACe, yup, that's exactly right! (flannel + TOD) Welcome back, soon anyway
  11:38pm KP:

Frenchee you should have reminded me. i would have dvr'd it.
  11:38pm Matt from Springfield:

Hi KP! Yes, stop by the Record & Tape Exchange if you're in Fairfax, VA! ;)

I've searched for record stores on the Internet for almost a decade now, and there's many that aren't around anymore, I could see if Olde Towne is still around, or rings anyone's bells.
11:38pm dan in falls church VA:

@KP, yup, the Fairfax Record & Tape Exchange: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fairfax-Record-Tape-Exchange/174937199198829
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm Julie:

Oh god..I thought this was going to be Lou Reed/ Metallica..I almost stormed in there, Mike! phew!
11:40pm Ace from Al Ain UAE:

Matt--You were right about there being a big NOVA posse on the virtual FMU...
  11:41pm KP:

Thanks, Dan. i get down there a lot.
11:41pm dan in falls church VA:

Maybe we should have a NoVa FMU "meetup"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm frenchee:

uh oh, Julie stormin'! Watch out world...
  11:43pm KP:

I'll be down there July 7-8. Hmm i almost typed Julie 7-8.
  11:44pm Matt from Springfield:

Ace, I think we should set up a real-live-meetup soon.
Yes Dan! There's several in DC as well (BSI, dc pat, Chris from DC, Denise from DC etc..) so I'm wondering how best to set up a meetup.

Maybe a NoVA first, easier to coordinate. We can always show up to a later DC one on another occasion.
11:44pm dan in falls church VA:

@KP, Matt, Ace, well, if any of you wanna contact me, djoy2311[at]gmail[dot]com
  11:46pm Mike Sin:

Hey, when's this meet-up happenin'? I'll hop on my hog and cruise down?
  11:46pm Matt from Springfield:

Cool. Thanks Dan.
11:47pm dan in falls church VA:

Ha, let's meet @ CD Cellar Falls Church, that's a block away, or the one in Arlington, there will be plenty of places to eat/coffee/drink etc near the Arlington CD Cellar. Fairfax is a drag for me as I'm post-automotive and for every mile further from town, the harder transpo gets.
11:47pm dan in falls church VA:

@Mike, we'll let you know about the meetup ;)
11:48pm dan in falls church VA:

"rocks in my head"...somehow I deeply relate to this track
  11:48pm Matt from Springfield:

I must ask, Mike: What is the tune in your instrumental bed music? It sounds so familiar, like a big 60s song, but just can't place it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm Julie:

This sounds like You Really Got Me on organ
11:50pm dan in falls church VA:

Wow, cool organ work on this Booker T track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm frenchee:

but instead of "me," they've got JOHNNY...
  11:51pm KP:

Ray should sue.
  11:51pm Matt from Springfield:

"Up Tight", because w/ 10 minutes left, Time Is Tight!

Organ work is always wonderful on Booker T & the MGs. Guitar and (RIP, Duck) bass too.
11:53pm Ace from Al Ain UAE:

...I'll sit here in the desert wearing an fmu tshirt and pretend I'm at the meet-up...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm frenchee:

  11:56pm KP:

We've really Got Johnny?
  11:58pm KP:

Baby Please Dont Go ...
  11:59pm KP:

See Mike, Frenchee! I'll catch what i missed later.
11:59pm dan in falls church VA:

@ACe, we'll have the meetup when you get here
  12:01am Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Mike!
Terrific show as always!
