  8:55am Van in DC:

Is this the Harps of Fucshia Kalmia by chance?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:57am Doug Schulkind:

Your question makes me smile, Van. No, this is Gender Wayang Pemarwan from Indonesia. Music for shadow puppetry. But it totally COULD BE Harps of Fucshia Kalmia.
  8:58am listener james from westwood:

happy friday all! good june, doug, and all under the watchful eye of the drummer!

  9:02am holland oats:

this is starting to look like one of ken's playlist pages
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04am Doug Schulkind:

I lent this gif to Ken a few months back. As with so many things, Ken has revolutionized the way we watch radio.

Sorry for the creepiness, ndbob. Think of the eye as your friend.
  9:05am still b/p:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am Doug Schulkind:

Our friend does have a very Clockwork Orange vibe, still b/p.
  9:12am Parq:

There is what looks, at quick glance at least, to be a very nifty piece by Burgess on said dystopian novel in this week's New Yorker Sci Fi issue.
  9:13am Parq:

Firefox spellcheck doesn't take "dystopian". The wonder of it all.

  9:16am Andrew:

Currently picturing my co-workers dancing gracefully around the office to this one...
  9:16am listener james from westwood:

count your blessings; it could've been the eyeball from "un chien andalou"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16am Doug Schulkind:

I promise not to eat you, Van.

Morning Henry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am Doug Schulkind:

@Andrew so few of us have co-workers who could be characterized as "graceful." You are blessed.

@LJFW, or it could be the "eyeball" on the cover of that Tom Zé record. (Hint: It is not an eyeball.)
  9:19am ndbob:

I see that the playlist is covering it up enough
  9:21am Paul Sherratt:

" Turkish rawk, South African fonk, gospel skronk, broody jazz, & some classic eyelife " ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23am Doug Schulkind:

And where've you been eyeding, Paul?!
  9:24am Paul Sherratt:

Doug,
In Fibbers
  9:25am listener james from westwood:

non sequitur: ran across a reference in the book i'm publishing to an author named schmuck. even better, he's a shrink. "dr. schmuck, i presume?"
  9:26am Paul Sherratt:

Fibbers, York ( the old one ) along with a couple of dozen old souls and Johnny Dowd
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am Doug Schulkind:

Here is that Tom Zé album cover with the "eyeball." See if you can guess what you're really looking at:

There's a guy, fairly prominent, in my field who's surname is "Greathead". No doubt, much like the boy named Sue, he was forced to develop a right hook like a wrecking ball.
  9:28am Michael:

Hey Doug and others - love this track some...

  10:02am ndbob:

This collection is great in general
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am Doug Schulkind:

A set dedicated to you, Brother Sinner.
  10:03am Paul Sherratt:

The Rev's my favourite ' C. L. ' of the two. The other one's a Blast, mind you.

Hello from the UK, sinner man !
  10:04am still b/p:

Speaking (and singing) of preachification...Was watching vintage Billy Graham for a while the other day. Theatrical physical intensity was interesting, since in my lifetime he's been a middle aged or elder figure whom I've rarely seen performing in his prime or doing his main game thing.
And also, it did not....sound like this
  10:04am Andrew:

Man, it sounds like chaos in that church. They're falling over the pews, crying, screaming, fainting!
  10:06am sinner:

Thanks, Doug. It helps with the grant writing..
Hi Paul! Lets have a pint one of these days.
  10:06am Paul Sherratt:

Great name, Ethel Profit.
  10:09am Holly in NC:

Hi Doug & all! Happy Friday! I know what that Tom Zé cover is, but think you should have the er, honor of explaining.....
  10:10am Hugo:

Going to church was never like this!
  10:16am Paul Sherratt:

Kevin sinner man,
Good idea, but should we meet half-way ?
  10:19am Paul Sherratt:

Holly, I don't think that picture was taken with a fundus camera ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Doug Schulkind:

Hello dear Holly! That Tom Zé cover presents, as you know, a marble deployed strategically where the sun definitely do not shine.
  10:21am sinner:

....Nova Scotia??...nice fiddle tradition there.
  10:26am still b/p:

I think I love this song and its title.
  10:31am Paul Sherratt:

Kevin, I remember Gander airport being a fun place at four in the morning during February. But that's Newfoundland.
  10:36am sinner:

....NewFoundland! That's right. My bad. We can go swimming...
  10:39am Van in DC:

love the Thai music, even in talkover form :)
  10:40am Paul Sherratt:

Doug, do you have eye drops ready for the second half of the show ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46am Doug Schulkind:

Van, you are my Thai connection. Paul, I have only nose drops, sorry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Doug Schulkind:

  11:11am Brian in UK:

Afternoon Boss, taxi work, any messages?
  11:11am Van in DC:

Interesting piece that was. Made me look Breuker up...apparently this was a live performance... wanted to know who that trombonist was :)

http://wbk.home.xs4all.nl/disco70-74_WB.html
  11:15am Carmichael:

Good morning Doug and drum circle buddies.
  11:17am Merv:

I had to look up Breuker too, really great track there... Doesn't appear to be in print and no links that I could find... :(
  11:17am Brian in UK:

Bugarian?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18am Doug Schulkind:

Romanian.
  11:19am Brian in UK:

Close but no Czar!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am Doug Schulkind:

Merv, the folks behind the Instand Composers Pool are reissuing the entire catalog in one box. It will cost a ridiculously unaffordable amount of $$. A few blogs that had been posting ICP stuff (including the music I played) have voluntarily removed their posts in deference to the new reissue. The thing is, if enough pre-orders for the box aren't made, they won't do the project. It's their right, of course, but it's kinda crazy.
  11:21am Brian in UK:

Pinch, punch first of the month. No returns.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Doug Schulkind:

Hiya Carmichael, feel free to bang on something.
  11:22am Merv:

Yikes! Best of luck to them... If I had the money to spend...
  11:22am Van in DC:

Wow, that sure was nice of them.
  11:23am Carmichael:

Rabbit rabbit rabbit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25am Doug Schulkind:

Here is that ICP box. It contains 50 CDs and 3 DVDs. Absurd, really.
  11:26am dc pat:

[I'll just slip into my seat while the teacher's back is turned...]
  11:26am Carmichael:

How much is it, Doug? $47,286.28?
  11:30am dc pat:

What? I've been here the whole time. ahem, so this is Oriental Rock and Roll, eh?
  11:31am Paul Sherratt:

dc pat, here quick, copy my notes ..
  11:31am Webhamster Henry:

This Daddy Lolo used to be a WFMU fave!
  11:32am dc pat:

[...thanks Paul.....] What a great show today!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am Doug Schulkind:

Carmichael, the first 300 boxes will sell for $419. After that, it will cost $615.

Yah, right.

dc pat, please stay after class.
  11:33am Brian in UK:

Deep in the bazaar. No eye contact.
  11:34am Holly in NC:

@Carmichael! I LOVE that you follow the rabbit tradition - I thought I was the only one!
  11:34am dc pat:

aw, man!....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am Doug Schulkind:

Rabbit rabbit Rabbit = bit.ly...
  11:38am Brian in UK:

dc pat, the old boy will have forgotten by then. Still getting over his birthday celebrations.
  11:41am dc pat:

if we all leave in one big group maybe he won't notice me..

Didn't know about the rabbits thing, I'll have to hep the kids..
  11:42am Holly in NC:

@ Doug - re rabbit wiki - huh! I'm of German heritage & was raised in Connecticut, & was told I' have good luck all month if I remembered to say rabbit rabbit rabbit first thing in the am on the 1st. No presents. And the unspoken threat was of bad luck if one forgot...
  11:42am listener james from westwood:

doug, i'd never heard of that traditions before! my fun fact for the day.
  11:43am ndbob:

Pretty amazing that Atco released something like that so early
  11:44am Holly in NC:

LOTS of Willem Breuker available on Soulseek, fwiw.
  11:45am dc pat:

crap, where'd I put my asafetida? Normally I just have to sniff the air but I think it's so old now its power is greatly diminished. May be time to replenish...
  11:46am Carmichael:

I heard about the rabbit thing from an Englander a long time ago. Then someone here said it, and I've been doing it ever since.
  11:46am Brian in UK:

dc pat, funny just bought a jar the other week, I'll put some in the post.
  11:48am Paul Sherratt:

Aunt Molly to Aunt Mellie ? No, probably not but Mr Emerson requires the volume to be increased and the office productivity to be decreased ..
  11:49am Van in DC:

Thanks for that tip Holly in NC
  11:50am dc pat:

Make sure you double package that stuff, Brian.
  11:50am kat330:

Hi, Doug and all you lovely people! I've been missing a great party clearly. And now I've learned something new: rabbitrabbitrabbit I really should have known this having been born in the year of the rabbit/cat.
  11:51am ndbob:

Hi Kat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am Doug Schulkind:

Howdy kat330! Glad to have you on the jalopy.
  11:51am dc pat:

  11:51am Carmichael:

Yo kat.
  11:54am ndbob:

this is great -surprised i never heard it before
  11:54am kat330:

I should be around for most of Steinski today. Been a busy but productive Friday morn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Doug Schulkind:

I took care of that errant apostrophe, dc pat. We are nothing if not a full-service radio show.

Playlist for Steinski: bit.ly...
  11:57am Van in DC:

Great presentation today Doug, enjoyed it, many thanks as always.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:58am Doug Schulkind:

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Van!
  11:59am Brian in UK:

Steinski DVD arrived the other day, waiting on the other bits. Just like Christmas.
  11:59am kat330:

Guess I just got some instant karma for saying I was productive. Just spilled morning coffee all over the place --NOT on the keyboard or PC thank god -- but a true mess. And there was very little in the mug, but it's Murphy's Law of Physics: a small measure of liquid will expand to a triple amount when it is inconvenient for it to do so.
  12:00pm still b/p:

How nice. Little Joe wrote his own wedding vows.
  12:00pm listener james from westwood:

this show kept me rolling through a teeth-grinding day. man do i ever have a lot to be thankful for in wfmu. thanks, doug!
  12:00pm kat330:

I'll catch up in the archives on this, Doug, and see you on the other side (after some moments of cleaning up here....)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm Doug Schulkind:

If there was some milk in that spilt coffee—no crying! Otherwise you can bawl like a newborn.
  12:01pm kat330:

No milk. Weeping here..
  12:02pm ndbob:

excellent show Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Doug Schulkind:
