Steve M., you took the words right out of my fingertips. Thanks, Monica** Enjoying it with fresh morsels from the farmer's market and a reserve cotes du rhone--the last fire of the season--burnin' up the kindlin' that's rottin' with burrowing insects. Country livin'.. Bringin' it on home, Mo. Goooood stuff.
  8:03pm
Don F (tripdub):

Love the mix and great Soul set, Monica. 4 Knights brings to mind Mills Brothers and Jimmy Hughes? Bobby Bland! Nice. Dog runs are few and far in Queens except for Flushing Meadows and maybe Astoria and maybe Forest Park.

I let it flow.
  8:12pm
G:

The (or, A) Voice of Midwood here. 90.9 Haitian pirate radio's still blotting out 91.1 over-air signal for mutliple hours a day. One word: Streaming!
  8:13pm
Don F (tripdub):

David Clayton Thomas is doin' backflips now.
  8:14pm
dave:

I'd love to hear Haitian pirate radio
  8:14pm
dale:

G - i remeber when i lived in windsor terrace back in the 80s and early 90s there were broadcasters doing stuff on the cb bands. wacky times!
  8:15pm
anne:

i loved crown heights in BK, and we were on the utica ave side south of eastern parkway. prospect heights is nice too, close proximity to prospect park for lovely wanderings and grand army plaza for farmer's market and atlantic ave station as a transport hub. but those parts around atlantic ave are going under that major development so not sure how it is now.
  8:15pm
PKNY:

Loving this JVC Force, even though they basically did a remake of their classic "Strong Island".

"Livin' in CI, who the hell am I!"
  8:17pm
dale:

is tonite's miss usa pageant the one with the transexual in it?
  8:18pm
G:

@dave: I listen to it sometimes for a little while when cleaning the kitchen. (I'm not gonna risk my laptop in there with water and food.) They never do station ID, at least not that I've ever heard. :-) I'm figuring they tell people by word of mouth what frequency to listen to, and what hours.

Monica:

Foof - that was "White Sheets, Tigh Bed" by Mastretta, easy to find... G - i hear ya, only listen to FMU via streams these days but thanks!!....Don F, no doubt but this one's been butchered every which way....Davice - stream OK now? If not, let me know so I can alert the authorities....Gracias, CB!...PKNY - eactly, but not mad at that either.... anne, appreciate the input, gal...
  8:20pm
dave:

@G
the more pirate radio the better i say
  8:23pm
miss cheri:

mo--i just came back just to say could you at least try to play the hogan's heroes theme,, cause i'd love to hear it one last time. i'm really sorry to pester you monica..
  8:24pm
Foof:

Thanks! diggin tonight's show
  8:25pm
G:

@dave: Actually, FMU asked those of us who get the signal to see if we can get contact info and/or an address, because beyond just using an unusued frequency (90.9) formerly used by CUNY, they have their settings up so high that WFMU at adjacent 91.1 has no over-air signal for 2-3 miles around wherever their antenna is, whenever the pirate station is on.
  8:25pm
Staff Sergeant Kinchloe:

Shimmy Cheri, Shimmy!
  8:27pm
seang:

and here come those lovely strings
  8:28pm
listener gary:

Hello to DJ Monica ...been listening but eating a late dinner. as per moving out of NYC...keep in mind that most neighborhoods are enclaves of family values...replete with all the dullness that implies. Best lg
  8:28pm
G:

@monica: In the car I'd rather use the car radio (non-streaming), but in the car I am normally driving a few miles away, and there's no interference from 90.9 if you get even just 2-3 miles from their antenna...
  8:35pm
frenchee:

Hola! I thought of you today, Miss Monica. Was skulking in the backstreets of Chinatown and came across a PLAQUE for the Mudd Club. First time I've seen that, pretty cool. There was a grainy photo and I scrutinized it for images of you.
  8:37pm
Warner:

Monica. go east with Butter...east of the big DIG...east of 2nd avenue on the YUPPER east side...not so yupper there. Brooklyn is too damn big and too hip for me (live in garment district since the bad ole days!.
  8:37pm
Snortley:

Here in Kensington the pirate bleeds over into FMU's signal. I have to use a Magnum Dynalab receiver to get clear reception, but even then there's some crackling noise. With a normal radio, reception is next to impossible. The FCC has busted these guys at least twice, and even fined them $10,000 (which I doubt they've paid). Technically, Jean Idalbert, the guy responsible, should be sentenced to 10 years in prison, but don't hold your breath for that; the FCC is overwhelmed, underfunded, and thereby powerless.
  8:37pm
Ned Flanders:

This Snake Hips is diddley-iscious!
  8:39pm
CB!:

Snake hips is a real find.
  8:39pm
Doug S.:

Is that Peggy Lee's Peter Dean?
  8:40pm
other david:

@Snortley: I suspect if WFMU were part of a gigantic corporate entity, that pirate station would have been knocked off the air long ago.

Beautiful show Monica

see you next week monica!!
  8:43pm
G:

@od: The left end of the FM spectrum (under ~92 FM) is mainly colleges and non-commercial stations, so I suspect the Haitian station operates in that part of the band on purpose...
