Listener comments!

  12:05pm
Cecile:

Jayne County! That should be cool.
  12:10pm
Cecile:

Some questions:
When did you and Handsome Dick make up and what triggered it?

What do you think of the slightly broader acceptance (well at least by straight cable TV viewers) of drag queens/trans people these days? Re: Kandis Cayne, RuPaul's Drag Race?

What do you think is your biggest success? What is your biggest regret?
  12:11pm
Cecile:

What are your thoughts on "genderqueer?
Avatar 12:11pm
kamikaze:

Jayne is not live AND it's a pretty short interview; there were some technical issues. Sorry!
  12:12pm
Cecile:

Oh, that's OK. She probably talked about a lot of this stuff, anyway. Sorry about that!
  12:13pm
Mr Donut:

Name rings a bell. Did she used to appear in Creem magazine?
Avatar 12:14pm

Don't be sorry! I appreciate the enthusiasm! We just couldn't work out a live time. She's playing tonight and has a packed schedule!

Mr Donut:

Does anybody have any real info on Matt Pike?
  12:48pm
Brain:

According to WIKI - Pike moved to California after spending time in Military School while living with his mother in Golden, Colorado. A self-proclaimed juvenile delinquent, he was stealing car stereos in order to feed a developing drug habit. When he arrived in Silicon Valley, he realized that the hardcore punk and heavy metal scene was much more active than the one in Denver; he quickly made friends and began going to shows. Pike joined a sludge metal band called Asbestosdeath. After playing around the bay area they developed a much heavier and slower sound. Dubbed doom metal by the press, the quartet soon gained a following and changed their name to Sleep. He is quite well known in the metal scene for almost never wearing a shirt during live performances.
  12:55pm
Keg:

Couch Flambeau? Wow. Milwaukee act ... like Violent Femmes, Die Kreuzen, The Promise RIng, Bobby Vinton.
  12:56pm
Mr Donut:

Thx Brain. I was wondering about rumors of a recent illness
  12:56pm
BSI:

BOBBY VINTON! PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME!
  12:56pm
Cecile:

I still think of Die Kreuzen as a Green Bay act...
  12:59pm
Keg:

Cecile - According to WIKI (God, I get sick of saying that) Die Kreuzen was a Milwaukee band formerly called, The Stellas. Boris the Sprinkler was from Titletown. Locust was from Iowa. (wink)
  12:59pm
KP:

A friend played one the last events at CBGBs - a benefit - and Jayne County was on the bill. She was great.
  1:04pm
Cecile:

Well, I only say this because even though I didn't, I knew people who had to mail away to a PO box in Green Bay to get their first EP, Cows and Beer. And chances you don't have a PO Box in Green Bay unless you live there...
  1:06pm
Keg:

But if you live in Green Bay, you probably would migrate to the big city of Milwaukee to step-up your career a notch. If you live in Green Bay today, you are probably a Mitt Romney, Gov. Scott Walker enthusiast.
  1:07pm
Boy Howdy:

Wasn't Cherry Vanilla from that Jayne County era? Kasim Sulton was her bassist. Now with Meat Loaf and Todd Rundgren.
  1:08pm
SteveL:

Love Jayne's cover of Little Doll/Down on the Street on the Iggy tribute comp. What a pair of survivors!
  1:08pm
G:

I updated Matt Pike's wiki page, late Saturday or early Sunday, adding the rumor about his health issue and canceling Barcelona, because I went to wiki for info and the issue was not mentioned at all. The next day, someone added that Pike and Sleep did in fact play a Tampa festival show on June 2nd, and that June 2nd was also Matt's 40th birthday. Pending additional info coming out, the reasonable hypothesis would seem to be that Pike wanted to play Tampa more than Barcelona, and he or one of his "people" started the health rumor to give him a Barcelona "out".
  1:10pm
Mike Sin:

Diane -- great job with this interview.
  1:10pm
Cecile:

Sure!
I'm absolutely sure that they've lived in Milwaukee for years, but then again, I used to call Nirvana a "Scream spinoff band." :D
  1:10pm
Joel Gausten:

In the words of Bobby Steele, "Jayne's the man!"
  1:13pm
Rick Scott (Formerly of Midnight Oil:

Not surprised he's wish to play Tampa - home of Death Metal, Morrisound Studios, Savatage, Nasty Savage, Death, and many voracious metal fans.
  1:14pm
Gov. Rick Scott:

  1:36pm

Those screams during The Seeds sound overdubbed. Beatle screams. Ooh. Barry McGuire. Nice.

The Standells did the title song for "There's a Zebra in the Kitchen"

There's a zebra in the kitchen
There's a tiger onna roof ...
