Listener comments!

  1:04pm kat330:

Elam: The eyes have it! And yet here he is with eyes closed. What a waste of special peepers.
  1:04pm Philo Gristle:

Jack just smoked an Angel. Proves he's secretly the divine creator.
  1:07pm Tom:

The Wall-eyed weedman!
  1:09pm Philo Gristle:

Kansas City Confidential is fantastic! He's in it with not just Lee Van Cleef, but Neville Brand! Directed by Phil Karlson, second only to Sam Fuller in that era.
  1:09pm Philo Gristle:

Great warbly sax!
  1:12pm kat330:

Here's the cat version of Jack Elam: http://wfmu.org/playlists/shows/44250
  1:13pm kat330:

Indiana representin'!
  1:13pm Peter:

Semi-serious question: Why did so many groups of that late 50s/early 60's have "Del" as the prefix to their name? Is it just because it's cool sounding?
  1:14pm Philo Gristle:

The Clefs had it going!
  1:16pm Del "ChooChoo" - ATL:

@Peter: I think it's cool sounding!
  1:17pm Philo Gristle:

I don't think they were all from Del-Aware...
  1:17pm kat330:

@Peter: Maybe just the "the" translation of it? Though that means much redundancy, as in The Del-Tones. Or the first name Del?
  1:18pm kat330:

As in Delbert. I had an uncle named Delvin.
  1:21pm Tom:

Mermaid Parade next Saturday!
  1:25pm kat330:

Will be viewing actual mermaids (manatees) in FL next Sat. :)
  1:26pm Philo Gristle:

Another quiz: What was the last big popular instrumental hit?
  1:26pm Juke Joint Jonny:

Let's Have a Party — The drums are so out in front on this, when did they mix it, 1983?
  1:26pm Philo Gristle:

Go Mad Daddy!
  1:28pm kat330:

Chariots of Fire? (@Philo, whom I could ask 3-ft. away from me)
  1:30pm Greg G.:

Always happy to hear a dispatch from Death Row, Rex.
  1:31pm Philo Gristle:

I couldn't get past "Popcorn" meself.
  1:32pm "ChooChoo" - ATL:

Jimmy Minor has me sadly staring into my beer mug. <sniff!>
  1:40pm Tom:

Texas Wheelers was on the ABC network from 9/74 until 7/75.
  1:41pm Philo Gristle:

All we have these days is Texas Dealers.
  1:41pm kat330:

Never saw that show. Coincides with a time of zero TV viewing.
  1:42pm Us Too!:

The Del-Pickles
  1:43pm kat330:

Familiarity with Elam is probably more than 50% from crossword clues.
  1:44pm kat330:

Mamie is indeed Miss Good!
  1:46pm "ChooChoo" - ATL:

I can use me some of that Palmer Skin Success Soap!
  1:48pm Mack the Spork:

I always wanted to see Jack Elam and Marty Feldman in a staring contest.
  1:51pm Peter:

I've blogged about Jack Elam, here.. http://bit.ly/KQe58o
  1:55pm kat330:

Thanks, Peter, cool!
  1:56pm Philo Gristle:

OUATITW opening is brilliant, as great as the rest of it is.
  1:59pm kat330:

Quiz #3: Rex, how's come you never interact on the playlist comments? I realize these are very short spins taking most of your attention, but people w/questions of you are left hanging week to week.
  1:59pm Peter:

@kat - yw. And @philo - agreed. Check out the Blu-Ray..great commentary on the disc.
  2:01pm kat330:

(will this be the exception to the rule, she wondered ;)
  2:03pm Philo Gristle:

Haven't upgraded from dvd yet, but I think it's the same one with Sir. Christopher Frayling, Alex Cox and others. I'll listen to anything with Frayling (or Alex Cox, for that matter).
  2:10pm kat330:

Playlist to playlist, I can say with some certainty that Rex is into heavy sax.
  2:11pm Listener Jumpy from Brooklyn:

I want some Fu Manchu stew!
  2:12pm kat330:

Heh! And Animal Farm with the meow-ing earlier and the baaa-ing now. :)
  2:13pm Philo Gristle:

This sure is a fine Fu Manchurian Candidate.
  2:14pm kat330:

Hey, who's eating kitties??
  2:17pm Joe Non Papa:

  2:19pm kat330:

This must date from the tail end of Rex's collection.
  2:22pm "ChooChoo" - ATL:

WopATee! From the Golden Age of Hammon B3 rock.
  2:23pm Philo Gristle:

Turn Blue! Stay Sick!
  2:24pm Mack the Spork:

Theres a Manners Ghoulardi cup on ebay now...up to 61 bux...ready to sell rex?
  2:24pm kat330:

There Will Be Blood!
  2:26pm "ChooChoo" - ATL:

  2:26pm Philo Gristle:

Ghoulardi will drink your milkshake, sonny-boy!
  2:29pm Philo Gristle:

Doesn't sound like Link on the vox, but the guitar is unmistakable!
  2:34pm Tom:

Ghoulardi did not like his fans, I've got the videotape to prove it.
  2:37pm Philo Gristle:

@Tom Was that later in life, or ever?
  2:39pm Tom:

It was later in his life.
  2:40pm Philo Gristle:

I can imagine him getting some crazy customers, but if you wear the wig you got to pay the price.
  2:41pm Mack the Spork:

@ Tom - Put it on Youtube and let us be the judge
  2:42pm Jay /London:

just checking in
  2:42pm Mack the Spork:

Ernie Anderson as Ghoulardi did a lot for charity..so he musta liked somebody
  2:43pm Philo Gristle:

Greets Jay
  2:43pm Tom:

It's a 10 year old videotape I got from Psychotronic magazine, how do I put that on YouTube?
  2:44pm Mack the Spork:

you gotta have the hardware to digitize it
  2:45pm Philo Gristle:

Um, with difficulty.... did Weldon sell tapes, or something from the ads?
  2:45pm kat330:

@Jay: How 'bout that brilliant 360-degree boat turn in the Thames! ;)
  2:45pm "ChooChoo" - ATL:

"Judge & Jury": Bootleg Rolling Stones?
  2:46pm kat330:

Does sound a good deal like the first Stones LP.
  2:47pm Tom:

Weldon sold the tapes.
  2:47pm Listener Jumpy from Brooklyn:

"Chicks Are For Kids" is a top raving fave!
  2:47pm Philo Gristle:

Mick was the judge, the rhythm section was the juty, but Keef was the axecutioner.
  2:48pm Jay /London:

@ Tom just a guess transfer to dvd then copy to pc then youtube me thinks .. is that any help ? @ kAT that was cool but should not have let the royals stand all that time in the rain & cold
  2:50pm kat330:

Her Queenship should experience a little hardship from time to time -- builds character.
  2:50pm Philo Gristle:

I think Weldon does a radio show somewhere these days, after Psychotronic folded.... he used to be in a band in the 60s, I think.
  2:53pm Tom:

I liked his newsprint magazine and have every issue from #1. Yes, he was in a rock and roll band called The Mirrors.
  2:54pm "ChooChoo" - ATL:

@Tom: I am impressed you have #1. It was not until recently that I connected my love for FOOLS PARADISE with my love for PSYCHOTRONIC.
  2:54pm Jay /London:

@ Kat yeah but she getting on now also think she has all the character she will ever learn now
  2:54pm Philo Gristle:

Oh wow, that's fantastic. Now there's something that should be digitized! He hand wrote all of them, pub'd weekly I think?
  2:54pm Mack the Spork:

Songs for swinging Larvae
  2:57pm Tom:

I don't have the early first version of the mag, but do have the entire set of the 2nd version.
  2:57pm "ChooChoo" - ATL:

I've been meaning to say this since the first of the show: "Oh, THAT Jack Elam!" I know him as an old codger is old comedy movies (Mel Brooks?) When I first tuned in today, I thought "Why do they have a picture of Cab Calloway posted?" I've never seen Mr. Elam as a young man, younger than age 70.
  2:57pm Philo Gristle:

I bet you meant the mag, not the weekly flyer he did pre-mag. I used to have them starting from #2. You couldn't find #1 anywhere.
  2:57pm kat330:

Imagine so. I'm excited to see how the Olympics fare over there. Hope it hasn't been too big of a pain. I lived in L.A. in '84, and residents all tried to flee town.
  2:57pm Philo Gristle:

  2:59pm kat330:

Gracias, Rex! Have a good fortnight all! Take and give care.
  3:00pm Mack the Spork:

Sam Cooke exploitation...i can dig it
  3:01pm Jay /London:

@ Kat lots of people are leaving town when they are on me taking time off but staying in town
  3:02pm Philo Gristle:

Great show Rex, as always! See y'all. Turn blue!
  3:03pm "ChooChoo" - ATL:

Peace, Love, & out from The Land of Coke-Cola.
  3:03pm Mack the Spork:

This one should put it over the top....NEW record for mindless rambling / posts for this show
  3:20pm kat330:

Well, Mack, next week two of the main mindless ramblers will be absent, so I'm sure this playlist will contain only gems of on-topic insight and erudition. :)
