It's still really bright out, yet it's already time for our 7PM interlude of lovely Monica tunes. Ahh.

Of course, I can't help but wonder when the Carol Williams shoe will drop. Later, during the disco part of our evening, I'm guessing.

My dad often took me to work with him on Saturdays, too. No Cadillac, just a Volvo wagon. But his work couldn't have been cooler: he was an art director and had an awesome design studio that I often got to play in on weekends. Great memories.
  7:42pm

my father had a heart attack his last day of work before he retired and was gone a few days later. life can be a bitch.

my ex wife reminds me of a stripper in a skating rink. (probably because she was, at least when we went skating).

First venture into retail ay? I was a mule for my dads precious stones - brought them from the city to our house in Queens in a pouch round my neck - pouch outta sight under my tee (took the subway alone). Didn't have the luxury of an armed guard.

hugs to texas scott.

My dad died 25 years ago & I still feel sad sometimes
  7:48pm
tom:

My father was an engineer for GE Photo Lamp Division. His specialties were projector lamps and flash cubes (remember those?). He made me go to work with him many weekends were I would be freaked out by the test labs where hundreds of phantom projectors gave eternal slide shows with no one watching and thousands of cameras automatically snapped photos of each other, over and over again. This apparently went on 24 hours a day to test the endurance of the products. I still have nightmares of rooms with flashing lights endlessly blazing away.
  7:48pm
G:

@Julian: It's much too late for goodbye...
  7:48pm

Mo, yeah! You are coming in loud and clear.

  8:14pm
Jeff:

My Son, the Folk Singer!

Okay, Harvey & Sheila isn't from that album, but that's the album I played endlessly (despite not completely understanding many of the jokes 'til decades later). And Allan Sherman's voice and style are unmistakable.
  8:18pm
chris a:

Jeff, we had that album too. And I played it endlessly too. Not understanding a lot of the jokes until years later. We could probably have a lot of laughs recounting the songs...
  8:19pm
Doug S.:

A gold Cadillac, huh, Monica?! Diamond in the back? Sunroof top? Digging the scene with the gangster lean?
  8:19pm

  8:25pm
Jeff:

So, my dad - he was that guy who left the house every morning in his suit with his briefcase and of course the proper fedora - because Men Wear Hats. And when everyone wears a suit and a hat, much can be said with tiny details - the fabric of the suit, maybe a wild-colored lining hidden inside a jacket, a wearing the hat at a subtly jaunty angle (but never Sinatra-rakish; that wouldn't do in business). Maybe a little fluffy feather (in a color which doesn't stand out too garishly) sewn into the hatband.

One particular black-and-white photo of Jon Hamm in his full-on Don Draper drag, featured I think on the menu page of the 4th season Blu-rays of Mad Men, really grabbed my eye because of how much it reminded me of Dad back in the day.

Re: Rockers Revenge - I'm so feelin' Mr. Magic, Mo. Thx for playin. To those avid Monica listeners interested in nominating my dad's liturgical audio segment (google 'Jewish Service Heard Around the World') to the Libary see this story. It would be cool to see his name with Donna Summer and Grateful Dead.
