  9:02am Aaron in Minneapolis:

Hey there Ken, first of all, I listened to that rerun of SSD last week, and all I can say is OUCH. But that Salamander line was pure gold!
  9:02am Cheri Pi:

OD that gif is hilarious.

Amadeo did great. Best show EVER.
  9:09am Aaron in Minneapolis:

Amadeo for Station Manager! Wait no then he'll have to deal with Andy, a fate worse than death
  9:09am other david:

I'm waiting for the letter from customs informing me that they stopped my wfmu parcel of joy and are demanding money
  9:10am Cheri Pi:

We were all like "Rock me Amadeo"
  9:11am still b/p:

Amadeo was A-OK-o. Even had to deal with some bizness from an Eeyore-channeling heckler.

Thanks a lot everybody!

Yes, Amadeo rocked, it was like he's been doing that forever.

  9:15am Hallo Sweden!:

Is today midsommer? Aquavit for all!
  9:16am Sam:

Crochety is a good word
  9:17am Sam:

It's not midsummer, it's the first day of summer.
  9:17am Assange:

Eat it, Sweden! Hallo, Ecuador!
  9:18am Ken From Hyde Park:

Ernie Kovacs was really ahead of his time. What a great guy.
  9:18am Nathan:

Tomorrow is the first day of summer. Swedish Midsommer is usually celebrated on the nearest Friday so that they can get properly blotto'd.
  9:19am Wikistickyhot:

"Midsummer day simply refers to the period of time centered upon the summer solstice.."
  9:19am BSI:

I try to avoid artificial Swedeners, myself.
speaking of which, who has carrot cake?
  9:20am Dan B From Upstate:

I wonder of what I will dream on this midsummer's eve.

  9:40am hobosnacks:

Hey my friend found this tape entitled "Phils rap" very funny :)

  9:42am Cheri Pi:

my little bro's childhood nickname was Dove-tonsills. I never knew that this was a real person until today! Now I torture my brother.
  9:43am Michael:

For the moment, th unpleasant bit of me that would surely sneer, even if only for a moment, at Phil's Baby, was turned off, and all I could do was hope that everything turned out well for them.

Young love is obviously often naïve and ill-advised, but the young lady sounds sweet and sincere, and again, all I could want for a moment was that she has been happy in the decades since.
  9:45am Michael:

אהיה אוהב את ההצגה.

(selon Google Translate, and that looks right to my out-of-practice eyes).
  9:46am Mark in DC:

Wow, Cheri... It sounds like yr parents (or someone) were Kovacs fans. The hip parents were. My folks cited him as a special sort of genius (agreed).
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 9:46am Ken:

But how do I pronounce that, Michael?
  9:47am amEdeo:

Oh! I saw Laurie Anderson do this once with a pillow speaker.
  9:48am Sam:

Just put any random hebrew on them. Nobody can read it anyway, they'll take your word for it.
  9:49am ricardo montalban:

Kovacs' classic late 50's/early60's shows were being rerun by PBS in the late 70's. I used to watch them with my dad, who was a fan back in the day. You can certainly see the influence on Letterman, especially those 80's NBC shows.
  9:49am Sam:

As long as you put "Love the show" and not one of Andy's favorite anti-semitic catchphrases
  9:49am Cheri Pi:

I now suspect that my dad (originally from the Bronx) probably hear that stuff at camp in the Catskills & had a very clear idea of what he was doing to little brother-thankfully we were spared the original material UNTIL NOW!
  9:50am Sam:

But it would be cool to have a yarmulke that says "Go to hell"
  9:51am Vaccinium spp.:

Why, it's blueberry season already, New Jersey. Hello!
  9:52am Michael:

Percy Dovetonsils, in turn, according to my late mother, was based on someone's great idea to beam Tennessee Williams into Eisenhower-era suburban homes equipped with televisions. I think this qualifies as analogue-era trolling, as lulz are the only reason I of which I can think for doing that.

Will be pledging next week, not sure if I can afford the subliminal message level.. but perhaps, subliminal message would probably this:

"comma-zero, comma-zero, comma-zero, ampersand, qualify."

  10:32am other david:

Cheri Pi - I think the dog is on vacation, it's now the Rescue Cow on duty!

Welcome back Caryn, hope you had a great time in Iceland :)
  10:33am Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Caryn. How's the economy in Iceland? During the financial crash a couple years ago, people were blowing up their Range Rovers when they couldn't make payments anymore.
  10:33am Caryn:

@od: thanks, it was great, but I did miss my WFMU fix.
  10:34am Webhamster Henry:

Ahh, the 365 days project makes an appearance!
  10:35am Lunch:

At the top, he found Malai Kofta Kashmiri.
  10:35am other david:

Iceland is recovering pretty well afaik, better than here in Ireland anyway.

They took a better option than our self-flagellation approach.

I'd love to visit Iceland sometime, probably winter for the chance to see Aurora Borealis.
  10:36am Caryn:

@Ken from HP: actually, since they actually held their banks and decision-makers accountable, things are going pretty well. Prices are way lower than they were before the crash, and certainly the economy is still an issue, but I think things have developed pretty nicely.
  10:36am Lunch:

"I smell the blood of a commonwealth man."
  10:37am Ken From Hyde Park:

Accountability? Gosh, what a concept.
  10:38am BSI:

oh dang. I'm a-hafta do that kickstarter thing. This is bigger than heck. Great trailer.
  10:39am f.O.F.u (:

Caryn,
And what about Bjork's economy? Did she filed for bankruptcy?
  10:42am G:

Sorry, just getting online. Did I miss the Jean Shepherd-style monologue?
  10:43am Caryn:

Have no clue about Björk's financial details, but even if she filed for bankruptcy, she probably did it in a combination of interpretive dance and lyrics in an imaginary language, while wearing recycled crash test dummy parts. Gotta say, seeing some of the Icelandic street wear, I suspect many Icelanders consider her outfits akin to jeans and a t-shirt...
  10:46am G:

Caution! He's CANADIAN!!!!!!!
  10:47am BDR:

Holyfuck, this new Crazy Horse suxxxxxxxxxxx What did we do to you, Ken?
  10:47am Caryn:

Oh lord, listened to this album over breakfast in Iceland, while discussing the benefits of Crazy Horse being kinda a crappy band...
  10:48am tim from champaign:

You guys are Canadian! This record's good, jack!
  10:49am Woody Guthrie:

Fer Chrissakes, can't ya put some life in it, boys?
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 10:49am Ken:

Cmon, you gotta love Neil! He does GIVE A FUCK what you think! And that is the coolest thing EVER.
  10:50am Neg-guh-tor:

I really like this new CH record. I think it's a fresh take on the folk songs. Perfect, really. 'God Save the Queen' is loaded with subtext.
  10:50am Pearl Jam:

  10:51am James Brown:

Livin' in America!!! GOOD GAWD YALL!!!! UNH!!
Avatar 🚽 Swag For Life Member 10:51am Ken:

Crazy Horse is a whole helluva lot better sounding than Crosby Still and Nash. Sheesh.
  10:52am Carmichael:

Hi Kenneth and everyone. I like Neil.
  10:52am BZ:

NEIL! NEIL! NEIL! Throw your damn hands up!
  10:53am Vaccinium spp.:

Wait. Is this song Americana or FunK?
  10:53am BSI:

That shiba inu is entirely too cheerful.
  10:53am Mark:

if you think the New Neil Young sucks, you should hear the new Patti Smith
  10:54am Caryn:

Have to say, the more doowop-py parts of the album are good for inspiring fits of giggles, and thus I consider the album to have its health benefits.
The album as a whole just sounds like they got drunk and just jammed almost karaoke-like in the studio. Which makes it a bit endearing.
And Crazy Horse is supposed to suck. I remember Neil saying what a good thing it is that CH are kinda crappy. No Cream-like "virtuosos trying to outdo each other with endless solos" stuff (although I love Cream, myself), just a bunch of basic musicians knocking something out. They could put a bit more energy into it sometimes, though...
  10:58am f.O.F.u (:

Neil Young + the crazy guys @ Metallica = total awesomeness. Neiltallica is what we need.
  10:58am Neg-guh-tor:

CH is Neil's band when he wants to have fun. He just likes playing with those guys. They have made amazing records together and this new one is among their best, in my opinion!
  10:59am dc ---:

This cover blows but must piss off Republicans...
  10:59am Carmichael:

Ken, you like Lulu. What the hell do you know about music?!?
  10:59am Mark:

Neil and Crazy Horse's version of "Get a Job" is interesting
  11:00am Deepak:

there was no cursing on that indian song
  11:01am Hindi:

Fuck you all!!!!!!!!!!!
  11:01am Vaccinium spp.:

Ding!
  11:01am Caryn:

We laughed our asses off at the "Get a Job" version. Fantastic work-out for the stomach muscles, and a prime example of the "drunken jamming" theory.
  11:02am Ken From Hyde Park:

Is there a version of This Land Is Your Land made for Iceland?

From the Vatnajökull to the Haukadalur ...
  11:03am Webhamster Henry:

BO-SAN-KEE

Nary a fascist fallin' to them licks.
  11:07am Dan B From Upstate:

I'm wrapping my headphone cable around my neck.
  11:07am Mark:

having heard an interview with Neil about Americana, I would say he takes it seriously.
The new Patti Smith, so pretentious it will make your teeth hurt.
  11:08am G:

Music Scan Mode aka Program Director Mode
  11:09am dc ---:

It might be helpful for the song samples to be twice as long--seems like it's just getting going when it moves on. Any way to configure?
  11:10am robyn:

the new patti smith didn't sound that terrible to me. lovin' today's gifs today ken.
  11:11am G:

Yep, that new BB album is worth maybe two minutes of anyone's time
  11:11am Mark:

10 seconds at a time it sounds fine
  11:11am blip:

They've gotten pretty edgy.
  11:11am Dan B From Upstate:

And I'm jumping... Oh... the headphone jack popped out of the computer. Well... so much for that.
  11:12am dc ---:

I've changed my mind, 10 seconds is WAY enough...
  11:12am other david:

too much 1980's cheap casio keyboard
  11:13am Caryn:

Not aware of an Icelandic version, Ken, but there are Welsh, Irish, British, several Caribbean, Indian, New Zealander, Canadian and "global" Esperanto versions. Can't remember if the Swedish and Finnish versions have local place names substituting the original ones...
  11:15am Carmichael:

The Chinese version would be "this land is our land, so stay the fuck off of it."
  11:15am Caryn:

Oh, and the East German version.
  11:16am Caryn:

Okay, the Swedish version has local place names in it.
  11:17am Ken From Hyde Park:

I'm pretty sure that hand-pile GIF is being played backwards. We played that as kids and we pulled our hands out of the bottom of the pile.
  11:19am still b/p:

Hand-piling in reverse summons Satan.
  11:22am Caryn:

Two Finnish versions, one with changed place names, one with the originals.
  11:24am hamburger:

is there a must see /do in Finland if you are just visiting for a day?
  11:24am G:

Heap hope, don't stope?
  11:31am Caryn:

@hamburger: hmm, depends where you are. I suppose in Helsinki, I'd stick to the old city center. All the squares have stuff going on, and the small shops, galleries etc. are great. In general, a dip in the sea or a lake and a visit to the sauna seem de rigeur (or in Helsinki, a visit to the nude baths). I might try to time a visit for Restaurant Day or one of the big festivals to see some more lively street life.
