  5:55pm listener james from westwood:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Doug Schulkind:

Hi there ndbob. Glad to, er, read ya!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Doug Schulkind:

Actually, LJFW, this is an intervention. We are gathered here to help you with your "problem." Don't even try to leave.
  5:56pm ndbob:

Heya James!
  5:59pm listener james from westwood:

i confess. i had two more drinks than i should have at that wedding and proposed to the little bride on top of the cake.
evenin', ndbob!

Size doesn't matter, LJFW!
  6:00pm Van in DC:

Have nice show Doug. I'll drop in with wings later :)
  6:00pm Chicago Joel:

Interesting first choice for an Ethiopian set. i feel so much of that late-60s Ethio groove music is their take on James Brown. Looking forward to seeing the path you take us on, maestro!
  6:01pm david brooks:

They say you’ve never really seen a Bruce Springsteen concert until you’ve seen one in Europe...
  6:03pm Chicago Joel:

Caught the Getatchew + Ex show in Chicago a few years ago and it was magic. Thanks for mentioning this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:04pm Doug Schulkind:

Van is here! Chicago Joel is here! David (I am usually an ass, but have been oddly making a smidgeon of sense lately) Brooks is here!
  6:05pm david brooks:

mark shields a no-show, just sayin'
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Doug Schulkind:

Joel, the Getatchew/Ex concert was part of a tour arranged (in part) heroically by WFMU. They performed at a big WFMU show at Lincoln Center in NYC. A deeply memorable affair!
  6:07pm holland oats:

i live 20 blocks from there and didn't go. i suck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Doug Schulkind:

@David Brooks
I'm counting on you to keep Krugman from kicking Friedman's ass all over the joint.

We still love you, h.o. We can't all be super-suave motherfuckers.
  6:09pm Van in DC:

Well I am briefly here but not hear
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:11pm Doug Schulkind:

@Van you are my Tuesday night wingman. Get me some hot sauce!

I hope you all updated your passports, because we're just about to leave the station...
  6:11pm ndbob:

@Doug - Krugman is so repetitive, but it's necessary for him to be that way
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Doug Schulkind:

@ndbob
Krugman is a voice in the wilderness. His take on the Euro crisis and its causes has been (I humbly submit) fairly breathtaking. Howl Paul howl!
  6:14pm holland oats:

hark the krar in harkvard kyard
  6:16pm ndbob:

@Doug indeed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm Doug Schulkind:

The gentleman adorning today's playlist is the fellow singing just now. He is the Eritrean Bereket Mengisteab. This is from 1984 before Eritrea became a country separate from Ethiopia.
  6:31pm david brooks:

man i wonder what judy will be wearing tonight.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Doug Schulkind:

You mean disgraced NYT press-release regurgitater Judy Miller?
  6:35pm david brooks:

woodruff, silly goose. she really gets me going!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Cary Grant:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:51pm Doug Schulkind:

You came, you sèw, you conquered.

I adore the trombone (or whatever) in the brass backing on this one.
  6:51pm northguineahills:

I like the crossover of various Ethiopian comps.....
  6:53pm listener james from westwood:

indeed. had no idea where i'd be going but have loved the mix of vocalists and musical styles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55pm Doug Schulkind:

There are pockets of wonderful Ethio sounds around the blogosphere. I am happy to pick those pockets on your behalf, dear listeners.

  6:59pm listener james from westwood:

well done thou true and faithful drummer! until friday!
  10:18am Van in DC:

Today, the Mothership's "pop up player" is a little different...the volume control is different for one. And it works. The "pop up player" HERE is the old one and does not work for me.

Catching up on the show, brought the hot wings :)
  11:12am Van in DC:

Yes, at the 51 minute mark, the backing brass definitely are trombones. :)
  11:15am Doug Schulkind:

That trombone sound is so languorous and lovely!
