Listener comments!

  12:11pm Cecile:

U-S-A! U-S-A!
  12:12pm Chapel Hillian:

Summers here and the time is right for Belock in the streets
  12:14pm Tornado:

Hey Joe,
Just wanted to let you know The Recruders are playing alone with The Rumblefish, this Friday, at West Cork Union Hall, 502 Henderson Ave, Staten Island, in case you had the time and felt so incline to give us a plug.
Hope you have a Happy 4th.
Cheers,
  12:15pm dc pat:

thought I was actually going to get the hell out of DC for the 4th, but since our power came back, I guess we're staying...oh well.
  12:15pm SmokinJ:

Keepin' Kool w/JB!
  12:15pm Woo:

Andy Griffith, a great American, a great artist.
  12:16pm Cecile:

genius TV producer, and canny entertainer.
  12:18pm Ben Franklin:

Beer is proof that god loves us and wants us to be happy!
  12:18pm G:

I used to live on Bard Ave right around the corner from 502 Henderson. That's been a bar for many years, but didn't used to be called a Union Hall. Wonder when it changed hands. Maybe in the last 3 or so years since I moved away from there...
  12:19pm Cecile:

oooh! You have to have Paul Revere and the Raiders in your on-deck circle, am I right Joe?
  12:19pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Star-Spangled Joe B today!!! Now all we need is Sandy on (or under) the Boardwalk. Happy pre-holiday to all on this side of the Pond!
  12:21pm Tornado:

Quite a coincidence, G. The bar use to be called the Wreck Room but changed hands and name about 2 or maybe 3 years ago, yes. It seems they're featuring bands more now.
  12:22pm dc pat:

I second Cecile's request.
  12:23pm kat330:

Hi, Joe! Getting us into "GO USA!" Olympic spirit. Go 4th!
  12:24pm John L.:

See "A Face In The Crowd" for a different side of Andy Griffith. One of my favorites.
  12:24pm Cecile:

YES
  12:27pm G:

Yes, Tornado, they never had bands at the Wreck Room (they had billiards and video games), and the bar that was there before that in the 90s was just a hard-drinking bar, period. :-) Google street view still has the Wreck Room photo dated 2007. :-) (I lived there from 1991 till the late 00s.) Heck, in the mid 20th century it was a famous neighborhood candy shop (before my time, but its reputation lived on). Glad to see a new owner is upgrading the facility with an Irish theme and actual live entertainment! :-)
  12:28pm David Shortell:

Speaking of that movie, I suppose we'll be hearing the Ribeye Brothers' "Lonesome Rhodes".
  12:28pm KP:

Paul Revere and Raiders took a country detour when the added Freddy Weller. He play stringbender and already had minor C&W hits.
  12:31pm David Shortell:

I just looked this up: Andy was just a month away from outliving Marilyn Monroe by 50 years! (They shared birthdates.)
  12:35pm stephanie:

sure hope X is coming up...
  12:35pm Tornado:

Interesting G. And yes, a good sign and improvement it seems. Actually haven't been there yet but our drummer lives right down the street and likes the place, frequenting often. How about Liedy's? Ever go there? They have bands too but I think it generally draws an older crowd.
  12:48pm dc pat:

I second stephanie's request
  12:49pm Scott K.:

Hey Joe! Any chance for some Prime Movers play for bassist Jeff Sugarman, R.I.P.?
  12:51pm Minnesota Jeff:

I love this new Hives album.
  12:52pm Cecile:

This is killer, MN Jeff.
  12:53pm G:

@Tornado: I would agree about the older Staten Islandy "white ethnic" crowd at Leidy's. It's located on Rochmond Terrace, the main road that runs along the river facing Bayonne on the other side of the water. It's only about a mile or so from the SI Ferry Terminal and easy to get to by bus, or easy to park near. Their claim to fame decoratively is they have a really old-time telephone booth in there, from maybe before 1950.

Not far from there is Adobe Blues, which is Mexican food plus a bar plus music...

The hardcore nightlife area on that "north shore" of Staten Island is along "Bay Street". Can get a bit rowdy on Friday and saturday nights in that area...
  12:54pm G:

Richmond, ugh
  12:55pm geokopp:

Hi Joe! Great Feelies show on Sunday!
  12:58pm G:

From a yelp review of Liedy's, about the famous phone booth: "There is even one of the last (if not THE last) authentic telephone booths, which was used by Madonna in making her video for "Papa Don't Preach", that was before Madge owned a cell phone."
  1:01pm geokopp:

Todd-o-Phonic! Yeahhhh!
  1:10pm Cecile:

the man in the back said everyone attack...
Avatar 1:13pm Joe B:

Hi everyone, thanks for tuning in! things little hectic here with some behind-the-scenes work/maintenance going on! appreciate the comments, wil ltry to catch up during THE SIGHTS live set which will be airing momentarily!
  1:18pm Tornado:

Very True G. You definitely have sampled a good deal of Staten Island's nightlife riches. Didn't know that about Leidy's phone booth but a cool addition. Funny how Larry stlll ducks in there for calls. A true character.
  1:18pm Cecile:

Joe, the party rocking must come first. We understand.
  1:28pm B. Musikoff:

We are streaming Three Chord live for all the alder kockers here at Louise & Jerry's Tavern in Hoboken right now!
  1:38pm Miguel:

France love WFMU & The Sights !
  1:48pm Parq:

TECH Q: Is anybody else having trouble with the Flash player? On my puter, it keeps cutting out after a few minutes -- or seconds.
  1:49pm efd:

Parq, same thing is happening here.
  1:50pm efd:

("here" meaning my office in NYC, I should say)
Avatar 1:50pm Joe B:

i think it just came back
  1:51pm efd:

Regarding load-ins, Dave Amels was stoked to discover a Hammond organ in hiding at the Park Bar so he didn't have to carry his own keyboard up three flights of stairs.
  1:52pm efd:

yeah, it's been stable for the past few minutes after cutting in and out during the interview. Great live set and interview!!
  1:53pm Woo:

I saw Flock of Seagulls for free at Mohegan Sun. And I won $140 on the slots. I have never returned. Quit while you are ahead.
Avatar 1:54pm Joe B:

thanks for bearing with us, Mike is on the tech issues, they are doing some work/adjustments.
  1:55pm Parq:

Restarting. Here's hoping. (Thanks efd.)
  1:59pm KP:

My itunes keeps skipping to other stations and FMu shows.
  2:01pm Lou:

Sorry?
  2:03pm Cheri Pi:

JB you crack me up with your completism, but it's totally appreciated.!
  2:10pm dc pat:

I saw Flock of Seagulls back in the 80's and main hair guy said "We've come 2000 miles to educate yooooo.."
  2:23pm Mike Sin:

Good afternoon, Joe! Just wrapping it up here at work before the holiday tomorrow. Great set by the Sights!
  2:28pm SteveL:

Keep going Joe! I'm almost awake! (Work is tricky when you sleep.)
  2:30pm dc pat:

uh, say. This Ribeye Bros song is kinda rockin.
  2:31pm Woo:

Nice one for Andy. I always loved that at the end of some shows he would light a cigarette and play guitar on the porch.
  2:39pm Minnesota Jeff:

Pipestone, MN! Holler!
  2:40pm Cecile:

wow, this is strange.
  2:42pm s.p.b.:

Did someone yell to Mike "Shut Up!" ?
Classic...
  2:43pm Minnesota Jeff:

I wonder what dumb hat Love is wearing during this rambling. Captains hat? Day-glo pink promotional hat from a cruiseline? Mesh L.A. Lakers hat?
  2:45pm Cecile:

wow, that's some classic passive-aggreesion going on there.
  2:47pm s.p.b.:

Hey, don't get me wrong,The Beach Boys were one of the greatest American bands of all time; But Mike Love is an ass...period.
  2:48pm dc pat:

Langford!!
  2:50pm Cecile:

This tells you all you need to know about my sensibilty. The first version of this song I ever heard was in a Bryan Ferry video in '76.
  2:51pm Cecile:

this is great, though. Sounds like Richard Thompson.
  2:53pm s.p.b.:

Bryan Ferry coverd "Hard Rain" ? now that's surreal...
  2:53pm Cecile:

embarassment!
  2:54pm dc pat:

love catching Langford in what ever group he's playing with cuz he always makes me feel good. Like I just hung out with a great old friend.
  2:55pm Cecile:

the video is is even more surreel, spb.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zwBHd4kll0
  2:58pm still b/p:

For some reason, one of my only lasting memories of a '76 Roxy show is drummer Paul Thompson, with a towel draped over his head, seeming either resigned or annoyed when a heavy confetti shower onstage accompanied Hard Rain's Gonna Fall.
  3:02pm Cecile:

great show, joe
  3:03pm s.p.b.:

Thank you for sharing that Ceclle I gotta check that out...I'm a huge EARLY era Roxy music fan.And still b/p Paul Thompson was always one of my favorite drummers.
