	1:41pm Yvonne: Hey guys here are the ingredients to that FDR drinkie poo: Plymouth gin (essential!) 2 oz Noilly Prat (smells nice!) 1/3 oz Splash olive brine (ew yucky!) (but yummy too) Shake gin/vermouth with ice, add olive brine and shake again. Rub twista lemon on rim of glass, a fancy glass please. Garnish with a green olive, and enjoy! Have a nice martini lunch! FDR would be proud...

	2:04pm Matt from Springfield: Hey kata! I may be inspired to make a martini tonight. This weekend though, I finally tried making a manhattan--those are pretty good. I even "converted" my Mom over to a bourbon drink! She never drinks whiskey, but quite enjoyed that particular cocktail.

Coating the rim of a martini glass with orange or lemon, and/or squeezing some in but NOT adding the peel can really make a drink! I see above they did that with their martini as well.

	2:10pm kat330: Some restaurant first served me iced espresso that way -- caffe fredo, I believe. The coffee I make is strong enough to almost be espresso. It makes a nice summer alternative.

	2:10pm Matt from Springfield: GORDON'S! The best gin for the value! "London's #1", or so they say. Very nice, clean, tasty gin, and priced lower than really fancy gins. Perfect in fact for a G&T--Gordon's & Schweppes. Kina Lillet, never heard of that vermouth before but evidently that was the original one mentioned in the James Bond novels.

	2:13pm Caryn: Only have water to drink, but I might put it in a martini glass to feel like I'm partying along.
	2:13pm ~L: Just wondering what the Martini expert thinks of vodka martinis, and then those made with the candy-type flavored vodkas, or the flavored vodkas craze in general. Gummy (swedish fish flavor), Toasted Marshmallow, Cake, Watermelon are some. I have seen people who are not drinkers change their minds for these.
	2:14pm Matt from Springfield: Not sure if I would go for a dirty martini, but I give FDR huge props for using Plymouth gin! There used to be a whole category of such gins, but I think there's only one maker of it now, called "Plymouth gin". It's a milder in strength, but still wonderfully flavorful; I can even drink it straight, especially when chilled! Search for Plymouth gin if you haven't tried it yet!
	2:17pm kat330: I was quite late to the martini -- not a gin fan -- but an uncle up in Chicago made me the first one I ever tried, and I loved it. Only enjoyed his martinis though -- with 3 olives -- and never ordered them out or made them myself.
	2:17pm Cheri Pi: I would drink a very dirty martini, would need the olive juice for hydration purposes- I'm such a light weight.

	2:18pm kat330: Lots of salty brine in the olive juice, though, so that hampers hydration, too.
	2:19pm Caryn: It has to be said that the original Vesper Martini recipe includes 1 part vodka. Also, fun Kina Lillet fact: it is also Hannibal Lecter's drink of choice.
	2:19pm Cheri Pi: Duane- you need to do occasional sobriety tests on mike so we can check your progress. recite a poem or something. Or the lyrics to Erotic City. We need a base level Duane before things go comically awry

	2:22pm kat330: Well, extra salt is needed on a hot, sweaty day, so that would be a good thing these days.

	2:23pm Caryn: Vodka in Vesper Martini should preferably be Polish or Russian, and grain, not potato vodka. However, as the recipe for Kina Lillet was changed in 1986, the taste will not be the same nowadays :( Martini fact: in the original Fleming stories, James Bond orders a vodka martini 19 times, and a gin martini 16 times. And the Vesper Martini once.

	2:26pm Caryn: Bond fact: George Lazenby and Roger Moore never order a martini in any of their Bond movies. Other characters who know what kind of drink Bond likes make or order it for them, however.

	2:27pm northguineahills: I see I'm in good company here. Been away from ye ole laptop prepping and cooking collard greens (vegan). I prefer gin martinis, but I rarely buy gin, so if I'm at home, I'll make a dirty vodka martini.

	2:31pm Caryn: @Matt: that was actually one of the reasons Moore gave for making his movies more light-hearted as a whole. He said that Bond is not exactly much of a secret agent if every bartender in the world knows his drink preferences.

	2:32pm Mike East: my wife keeps buying gin for me...even though she knows it makes me go mad. Been mostly drinking it with a bit of seltzer or tonic and a twist of lemon, and sometimes a splash of cranberry with lots of ice. Fantastic summer drink. I'll have to start up with some martinis. Hard to drink it before it gets warm on a really hot day, though.
	2:32pm Caryn: @Matt: also, the other characters of course say the line for Bond in those movies, either ordering for him or handing him the drink and saying what it is. So the line remains.

	2:32pm Jan Audun Uretsky: When I used to bar tend (eons ago) I got so sick of folk complaining about a martinis not being dry enough I'd just skip the vermouth... The best part was when they'd still complain that it wasn't dry enough!

	2:34pm Caryn: Bond likes his martinis shaken because it makes both potato vodka and vermouth less oily-tasting, and it makes the drink colder. Or as Bond explained: 'When I'm...er...concentrating, I never have more than one drink before dinner. But I do like that one to be large and very strong and very cold, and very well-made. I hate small portions of anything, particularly when they taste bad."

	2:40pm joe: Me personally I skip the martini all togeather. Go out and get yourself a jar of extra large olives. pour out about a 1/4 of the brine (or more if you don't like salty). Freeze for a little bit until that get just a bit of an ice crystal on them. Take out fill the rest of the jar with vodka or gin depending on your like (i'm a vodka guy) and ad vermouth if you don't like dry (again like mine sahara). Put back in the freezer over night. Then in the fridge next day to defrost a bit. Grab a fork and if your nice go ahead and share.

(but yummy too) Shake gin/vermouth with ice, add olive brine and shake again. Rub twista lemon on rim of glass, a fancy glass please. Garnish with a green olive, and enjoy! Have a nice martini lunch! Coating the rim of a martini glass with orange or lemon, and/or squeezing some in but NOT adding the peel can really make a drink! I see above they did that with their martini as well.

	2:10pm Matt from Springfield: GORDON'S! The best gin for the value! "London's #1", or so they say. Very nice, clean, tasty gin, and priced lower than really fancy gins. Perfect in fact for a G&T--Gordon's & Schweppes. Kina Lillet, never heard of that vermouth before but evidently that was the original one mentioned in the James Bond novels.

	2:13pm ~L: Just wondering what the Martini expert thinks of vodka martinis, and then those made with the candy-type flavored vodkas, or the flavored vodkas craze in general. Gummy (swedish fish flavor), Toasted Marshmallow, Cake, Watermelon are some. I have seen people who are not drinkers change their minds for these.
	2:14pm Matt from Springfield: Not sure if I would go for a dirty martini, but I give FDR huge props for using Plymouth gin! There used to be a whole category of such gins, but I think there's only one maker of it now, called "Plymouth gin". It's a milder in strength, but still wonderfully flavorful; I can even drink it straight, especially when chilled! Search for Plymouth gin if you haven't tried it yet!
	2:17pm kat330: I was quite late to the martini -- not a gin fan -- but an uncle up in Chicago made me the first one I ever tried, and I loved it. Only enjoyed his martinis though -- with 3 olives -- and never ordered them out or made them myself.

However, as the recipe for Kina Lillet was changed in 1986, the taste will not be the same nowadays :( Martini fact: in the original Fleming stories, James Bond orders a vodka martini 19 times, and a gin martini 16 times. And the Vesper Martini once.

Hard to drink it before it gets warm on a really hot day, though.

	2:40pm joe: Me personally I skip the martini all togeather. Go out and get yourself a jar of extra large olives. pour out about a 1/4 of the brine (or more if you don't like salty). Freeze for a little bit until that get just a bit of an ice crystal on them. Take out fill the rest of the jar with vodka or gin depending on your like (i'm a vodka guy) and ad vermouth if you don't like dry (again like mine sahara). Put back in the freezer over night. Then in the fridge next day to defrost a bit. Grab a fork and if your nice go ahead and share.
