Speaking of London I spotted 3 members of the Rwandan Olympic team training in Victoria Park yesterday... the athletes being the most exciting aspect of the whole circus that's descending upon my neck of the woods. Beyond that a lot of my neighbours are being moved out to make room for folks paying extortionate rates.

@Nathan: I know people who were forced out of London altogether earlier this year. The rent was already too damn high, but the Olympics seem to have worsened that

I'm 100 yards from the Olympic site in Hackney Wick. Rents are going nuts. My hope is that with all the empty stock available post-Olympics due to the temporary lets prices will go down as supply will be high. I could be mistaken. I've gotta move in October. Fingers crossed. I still think London is a good place to live because it's been relatively immune to the recession.

@ausmanx: I'm hoping it will be fun. It might be fun. I feel for the soldiers who've been called off leave to sit under tarps around the Olympic site but they're far nicer / jollier than the G4S crew that were lurking around. Plus I don't have to commute anywhere which is a serious concern for a lot of people due to the influx of an extra million people on the transport network.

although the reason Sydney was so good was that the government scared half the residents away so there were no crowds and everyone was happy for two weeks! not sure London will be the same. but G4S are one of the most offensive and corrupt corporations in the world (they do more in third world countries... although much of Europe might join that group soon!)

It's a blessing in disguise they've bunged it up so badly. They were up for a lot of contracts to privatise parts of the police force here and now obviously those are all under review.

I'm just happy that the sun is scheduled to return after a 3 month hiatus next week. That'll be a start. It's been a grim Summer so far.
