Listener comments!

  3:02am Danny Dark-o:

Hi Julie.
  3:04am listener mark:

Hi Julie
Hi Danny Dark-O
  3:05am listener mark:

Did WFMU fall into a sink hole?
  3:05am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Good evening/morning everyone!
  3:08am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Is anyone else experiencing "chattering" sound? I don't know if it's an audio level thing, but when during louder passages the sound starts cutting out. It sounds like I'm listening through a box fan. It's creating a chatter/stutter kind of effect.
  3:09am Glovanie:

Good morning Julie. Still not sick of The Birthday Massacre I see. Neither am I. ;)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:09am Julie:

Good morning, folks!
  3:10am listener mark:

Irwin was having difficulty with the equipment this afternoon.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:10am Julie:

Stutter? Oh no that's not good
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:12am Julie:

I had one cd player act up on me at the first song, but everything else sounds okay to me so far.
  3:12am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I think Irwin's issue was related to a CDr that the players wouldn't play. I could be wrong about that though.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:13am Julie:

that's what happened to me! and it played perfectly in my car. (grumble)
  3:16am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

The stutter was very noticeable during "In the Dark" and it did it a little during "Sunsi." Haven't noticed it since so perhaps it's resolved itself.

I've had issues with CDrs that wouldn't play in a vehicle's player but would play fine on a dedicated CD/DVD player.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:17am Julie:

Yes Bad that was the cd with the issue. Sunsi was a poorly recorded demo with sound problems inherent.
  3:17am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Pat Benatar has a wonderful voice. I believe she had classical training as a teenager. Regardless, I think her vocal talent is underappreciated.
  3:19am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Was it "In the Dark" that skipped last week or the week before? I recall a song you played skipping in the middle. It might have been during Therese's show though.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:20am Julie:

@Bad yeah i had that problem before, I have a feeling it is a particular cd player.
  3:20am Roberto:

Oh great, how am I supposed to go to bed with all these great KB tunes playing? Will be regretting at the office tomorrow...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:21am Julie:

Hi there Roberto!
  3:22am Roberto:

KB provided much of the soundtrack to my college years. Holding up quite nicely all these years later.
  3:22am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Did you manage to nab a copy of the Kate Bush 1979 soundboard recording that briefly made the rounds a few months ago? Apparently it was the audio from a show that was filmed for TV but never broadcast. I heard the label is planning on releasing it commercially in the coming months.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:24am Julie:

Hmm no I hadn't heard that. But I imagine it's similar to the Hammersmith Odeon concert that I'm not sure was ever out on CD
  3:29am listener mark:

Ooooo! Kate Bush covers Elton John! Ha!
  3:31am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I just took a look at the files...October 4, 1979 at Manchester Apollo.
  3:31am hamburger:

jerk nerd factoid alert: eskimos have roughly the same amount of words for snow as the english language.
  3:34am Marmalade Kitty:

Good morning everyone!
  3:37am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Good morning, Marmalade Kitty!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:41am Julie:

Kitty! Hey there!
  3:45am 913:

Ooohhhhh, 8AM Julie.....Dark Morning Of The Soul.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:46am Julie:

morning 913!
  3:46am fred:

Good morning Julie and listeners.
With Kate Bush's birthday and the olympics this week, I really thought you'd play Games Without Frontiers.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:47am Julie:

ha! Fred I didn't even think of that
  3:47am Marmalade Kitty:

still having to manually refresh with the comments! started yesterday. Someone mentioned updating browser, but I'm not so sure it's that.. fine in all other respect..??
  3:50am ?:

@fred: don't forget to add Roy Lichtenstein to the mix
.....if I read the cryptic show title correctly....the pop art-kate-bush-olympics triumvirate....who knows where this will lead...
  3:51am 913:

Oh, comment-machine changed my name! Weird.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:51am Julie:

I'm not nearly as clever as you think.
  3:52am fred:

It makes sense, Julies knows a lot about triumvirates
  3:53am 913:

haha - no worries, i've already constructed my own narrative involving those 3 threads, to which this is the soundtrack. Great work, Julie!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:55am Julie:

well, thank you very much! Tremendous thought & planning.. (heh)
  4:02am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I thought I was the only person who owns this CD!
  4:06am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

That squeaking chair vexes Therese.
  4:11am listener mark:

Kate Bush July 30th, Jerry Garcia August 1st, listener mark July 31st. I am honored to be sandwiched between the the two great ones. Also, I share the birthday with J.K. Rowling. (She never sends a card!)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:14am Julie:

Relax and enjoy...
  4:15am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Is this going to be an album side like Sue P does? Or are you going to play both sides?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:17am Julie:

Both.. alas I don't have the LP, but it makes it easier.
  4:19am maja:

Goog morning. Julie. All. Is that you under the table?
  4:20am Marmalade Kitty:

Happy Birthday Mark!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:20am Julie:

hehe nope not me..but I've been there!
  4:21am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

You need the sound of a needle dropping on an album. The Supersuckers added that at the midway point of one of their CDs.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:22am Julie:

happy Birthday Mark! @Bad the way to have done it would have been to have TWO copies of the record.
  4:23am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Happy belated birthday, Listener Mark!
  4:25am listener mark:

Thank you for the birthday wishes.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:29am Julie:

Hope you like the Moody blues, Mark!
  4:30am listener mark:

Yes, I am moody and frequently blue. It fits.
  4:36am meghan:

Soooo sleepy..... Want more sleep.... Morning all
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:37am Julie:

LOL me too Meghan! morning!
  4:38am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Hy Meghan! Good to ear...I mean see that you're awake.
  4:38am meghan:

I blame the Olympics.
  4:39am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

BLERG! Hy = hi.

[so much for touch typing in the dark ]
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:39am Julie:

Meghan did you hear about the punk thing from opening ceremonies that they didn't show here? I keep meaning to check that out online
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:40am Julie:

I don't watch.. not until the rhythmic gymnastics..for some inexplicable reason I like those
  4:45am meghan:

No I was in a car for the whole opening ceremony. Never heard anything about punks. Did hear some amazingly stupid woman ask what was up with all the Abe Lincoln's.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:46am Julie:

Oh well you wouldn't have seen it, NBC cut it. Have to see the BBC version
  4:46am meghan:

My events are diving and TKD since I did both and can actually follow it!
  4:47am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

They also cut from the tribute to the victims of a terrorist bombing in London to show Ryan Seacrest interviewing Michael Phelps. NBC said the tribute wouldn't appeal to Americans.
  4:48am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I love synchronized diving! #ForReals
  4:49am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

@Meghan: Do you have three hours worth of tunes? Or did you have to get up EARly to look for more? :D
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:50am Julie:

booo bad guy
  4:55am meghan:

Oh Julie, it's going to be 3 hours of punny comments today. They are magical punners
  4:57am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Wasn't the "Lost Chord" episode of "In Search of..." [hosted by Leonard Nimoy] never aired???
  4:58am Orvan Taurus:

Missed you at Gothika. Any chance to listen to those files yet? And that last 40 minutes was rather nice, I thought.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:59am Julie:

ooh sorry Orvan, I am so bad :(
  5:00am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Every time I hear "Oomingmak" I think it's Love & Rockets' "Saudade" for about the first thirty seconds.
  5:02am Orvan Taurus:

S'awright. I fully expect to need to redo the lot, really.
And you claim the last was strange and then play this? MIght be from Koozebane
  5:02am meghan:

This music just mad Bosco get up and look around
  5:02am Berg:

greetings Julie & listeners - joining late..sorry..
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:03am Julie:

Hiya Berg.. @Meghan I can imagine he was quite confused
  5:03am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

During the Olympic opening ceremony I thought that Industrial Age segment was going to turn into Carrousel.

TRIVIA: Most of "Logan's Run" was filmed in Dallas and Fort Worth.
  5:04am Nick the Bard:

I think I'm going to replace the studio walls with marmosets and pudding next week just to see if anyone notices.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:05am Julie:

@BadGuy i know! :) @Nick beautiful, I can't wait!
  5:10am listener mark:

No beverages in Broadcast Studio A. Is pudding a beverage?
  5:12am Nick the Bard:

Pudding is magic.
  5:12am Berg:

Julie did you manage to plug those two cables finally? ;)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:13am Julie:

no but I remembered to cut the blue wire
  5:17am Marmalade Kitty:

nice tunes.. sun is shininig :) a rare thing in these parts, this summer!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:18am Julie:

Lovely, kitty!
  5:18am Berg:

where's home Kitty?
  5:19am listener mark:

Thanks for the music, Julie. Have a pleasant trip. See you on the radio.

Got a turtle head here, touching cloth
  5:23am meghan:

The moon looks so nice out right now
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:26am Julie:

Turtle head??
  5:26am Berg:

@Meghan it's the full moon today..
  5:26am meghan:

Hahaha.... Thanks Julie!!
  5:28am meghan:

I was wondering if it was Berg. It looks perfect against the deep blue sky
  5:29am Orvan Taurus:

I see the photo and think of Flanders & Swan's Too Many Cookers o/` There are cables on the tables, with plugs of every shape... o/`
  5:39am Marmalade Kitty:

@Beg: I'm in Uk
  5:40am Marmalade Kitty:

sorry, Berg!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:52am Meghan:

Julie, is that new DCD in the new music bin? Bring it up after your show. We know Nachum won't be playing it!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:52am Julie:

You got it, meghan!
  5:52am Marmalade Kitty:

The sout-east and London areas get most of the little sun and warmth available, on average 2-4°C warmer than the north-east/west, where rain is most prevalent; Manchester trapped between peak district and pennines and the bleak Irish sea! :(
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:53am Meghan:

  5:56am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

@Marmalade Kitty: You shouldn't romanticize it so much. :P
  5:56am Marmalade Kitty:

dark dampness was the perfect condition for the infamous dark satanic cotton mills in Lancashire.. o.O
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:56am Julie:

thanks for listening, folks! come listen to Nick next week, and I'll see you in two!
  5:57am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

It sounds like Marc's singing backwards.
  5:57am BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Have fun in NC, Julie! Seeya in two weeks. :)
  5:59am Marmalade Kitty:

Great show Julie! See y'all next time!
  7:52am Van in DC:

Ha! Great picture, great title. Diving in for a bit to help with the search! :)
  7:55am Van in DC:

Oooh! A KaTe demo? Sweet!
  8:00am Van in DC:

Okay, at this KaTe cover, The Man With the Child in His Eyes, I had to look at the playlist...which I rarely, rarely do! I can see what's going on here...a KATEMAS tribute!!

Thanks Julie!!!! :)
  8:06am Van in DC:

Julie, didn't I alert you to the KaTe soundboard? It was a full unreleased concert recording. Source was a VHS to CD-R unbroadcast Granada TV 'On the Road' film, and the concert was a KaTe concert at the Manchester Apollo. The AUDIO has been released but I don't think the video has surfaced yet, though it WAS shown at a special event in a Stourbridge, England hotel in 2011.

I have that soundboard. It is *wonderful*
