Orvan Taurus:

Already thinking of Mr Old Timer from Fibber McGee & Molly. "That ain't the way I hear-d it."
  6:03am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I'M FLYING!!!

This song really works! Flap your elbows and spin your ears, everyone!
  6:05am
hamburger:

lobe the intro
  6:07am
karen:

morning Meghan,
Interesting songs, as usual. Don't think I could flap my elbows, maybe upper arms, if I don't get to the gym soon!
  6:08am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I wasn't aware that there was such an ear fetish in the hillbilly community.
  6:09am
Marmalade Kitty:

after a sunny start, precipitation looming here!

long eared jerboa - rodent with the largest ear to body ratio. it's a cute fella

Erie..... unless you are feeling Irie.... hehe Wonder if I have ever been listened to in Erie?
  6:21am
Dave B:

Quick survey - earlobes: free hanging or attached?

Me = free
  6:21am
Ken From Hyde Park:

How did that one song from the fourth grade go? "Do your ears hang low? Do they wobble to and fro? ..."
  6:22am
dirty old man:

Erie: The Mistake on the Lake
  6:24am
hamburger:

attached

free = freaks :-)
  6:25am
Orvan Taurus:

A bang on the ear? Now to try not to make an aural sex joke. Too late.
  6:26am
dirty old man:

@Dave B: attached to what?
  6:28am
karen:

Can't belive that there are this many songs about ears!! I remember Walter Brennan, he was the father (grandfather?) on a show about Hillbillies, was it The Beverly Hillbillies?
  6:29am
Caryn:

@Ken: I actually suggested that for today's playlist.
  6:30am
Marmalade Kitty:

this Snow Patrol sounds a bit like Placebo
  6:31am
Dave B:

@DOM - heh
  6:32am
Caryn:

@Karen: no, that was Buddy Ebsen. Brennan was in the slightly similar The Real McCoys. I best remember him from Rio Bravo and My Darling Clementine. 3-time Oscar winner, BTW.
  6:33am
Caryn:

earlobes: free
  6:39am
Marmalade Kitty:

the inner workings of the ear always remind me of snail shells..?
  6:40am
Caryn:

The ear: responsible for 2 of our 6 senses, hearing and balance.
  6:43am
Dave B:

In the comic book world I know there are a few blind superheroes, but I'm not aware of any deaf ones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:45am
Meghan:

Was that horrible one that Ben Affleck in.... was he blind? or deaf?
  6:45am
Marmalade Kitty:

the question mark resembles the ear?
  6:45am
Caryn:

@Dave B: I suppose Echo is the best-known deaf superhero. There's a few more, too, like the Blue Ear.
  6:46am
karen:

@ Caryn, Thanks, The Real McCoys, goes back a while, eh?
  6:46am
Caryn:

@Meghan: blind. Interestingly, Echo used to be Daredevil's lover. That was a nice differently-abled couple...
  6:49am
Dave B:

Thanks Caryn. And yeah Meghan that was Daredevil, and it was shite
  6:51am
Berg:

I feel you Meg - guess what it's the same nationalistic crappy coverage here in France..
  6:52am
Dave B:

The alternate streams that NBC is offering are kinda good. Was watching judo at work yesterday
  6:52am
Caryn:

I don't care that much for the Olympics. I'll watch some events. Actually really looking forward to the trampoline. It's fast, it's entertaining, and it doesn't have annoying Michael Phelps.
  6:53am
Dave B:

I wait for the winter games. CURLING!!!!!!!!
  6:53am
karen:

Have to love the women's gymnists!
  6:55am
hamburger:

If I could I would have monitors everywhere on the wall covering each event that would be ideal.. not only because I like sports, but I have severe ADD
  6:57am
Caryn:

I occasionally get caught up in gymnastics and diving. Fencing, the various martial arts, the equestrian events, tennis, badminton and volleyball can be fun to watch for a while. Can't be bothered with some of the events, though.

And yes, curling... ahh. Only 2 years to go to the winter games.

vanya in moscow:

my buddy the bass player played at the leaving party for russian heavy athletics team, one night for men, one night for women team. not much funny details though. enjoying the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:03am

This was what I missed (and very controversial) while the freaking trampoline was on TV-

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09am
Meghan:

@Vanya- That is pretty cool, but why have a party for the men and women separately?
  7:09am
Berg:

great Elvis find Meghan, never heard that one before!
  7:11am
vanya in moscow:

@meghan, yeah, right?! and even if it`s separate, then be logical, don`t hire a male band for the party. there are girls bands in moscow (we all know at least one now)
  7:14am
Berg:

@meghan largest worldwide coverage for a soccer event was when Zinedine Zidane, one of the best French players ever, head-butted another player on the field during a worldcup final!
  7:16am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Now that we've experienced the five senses, can you start a series of diseases / illnesses? Can you put together a three-hour show with songs about inflammation?
  7:18am
hamburger:

sweet pimmon
  7:20am
Dave B:

Off to Lake George. See y'all next time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20am
Meghan:

@Berg- I remember watching that when it happened! I was amazed!

@vanya- ha yeah! I have been loving reading about that whole thing. I hope our pathetic news coverage doesn't drop it...

@Ken- hasn't Ken done that with his Lyme's disease shows?
  7:21am
Caryn:

I think our local channel handled the "This Is England" series nicely. They showed the movie , and then the following week, in the same timeslot, they started showing the tv series.
The IOC has been really quickly taking down any youtube & myvideo clips of the opening ceremonies, and the actual Olympics site doesn't have video, only photos, so... that's tricky. The punk thing actually only pissed me off. I mean, the amount of Clash, Sex Pistols, etc. music clips throughout was nice, but the actual strange pogoing bobblehead dolls? I thought it was so un-punk, it was annoying.
  7:25am
Caryn:

I found the whole opening ceremony at http://areena.yle.fi/tv/1592936, but it's only viewable in Finland :(
But if you're computer-savvy enough to do some IP-jiggling, it's an option.
  7:37am
vanya in moscow:

have a good one everyone! leaving for a soundcheck
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38am
Meghan:

Thanks Vanya! Happy Soundcheck! and good show!
  7:41am
Ken From Hyde Park:

More possible themes: cartoon characters, songs in Muzak form, national anthems, songs from one-named artists, bathing, farm animals.
  7:42am
hamburger:

muzak like an elevator music show? holy moly
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43am
Meghan:

I must say, I do like the idea of the soundtrack show....
  7:44am
Caryn:

Would the soundtrack show be songs from movies, or just actual instrumental movie music?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46am
Meghan:

songs..... I am not usually a fan of the instrumental stuff..... filler, you know?!
  7:46am
Caryn:

Speaking of the olympics, I'm curious if the US showed the Benedict Cumberbatch opening, because we sure as hell didn't get it? Had to watch it online later.
  7:47am
Caryn:

How about a show of tv show theme tunes?
  7:49am
Caryn:

Yay, Craig Mack!
  7:52am
Caryn:

I think Operation Ivy and The D.O.C. were the two tracks I most wanted to hear on today's show, so 1 down, 1 to go!
  8:03am
PKNY:

I should be demoted to Private in Uncle Jam's Army for not thinking of suggesting "Good to your Earhole". Thank you Meghan, and whoever suggested this.

Man, does Eddie Hazel kill it on this track, especially the solo at the end.
  8:10am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Is this King Crimson??? :P
  8:10am
PKNY:

Shit yeah! Alice Bowie forever!
  8:12am
Ken From Hyde Park:

I thought of another possible theme - songs that won song contests in movies.
  8:20am
Parq:

I remember when my kid (now a college grad) was in her last days of regularly watching kid shows, and there was a Noddy show -- U.S. produced, if I remember right. Man, I don't miss that simpering stuff.
  8:29am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

How about a science theme? I can loan you some science-related spoken word records. :D

Maybe I could write an LCD Soundsystem-inspired song about science called "Losing My Cell." Gill Scott Heron become Julius Sumner Miller. "I heard that you and your lab have sold your Bunsen burners and bought particle accelerators. I heard that you and your lab have sold your particle accelerators and bought Bunsen burners."
  8:31am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

How about a Route 66 theme. You can play songs that have names of cities along the route in the title. You could throw in a few versions of the "Route 66" theme song too.
  8:32am
Orvan Taurus:

@hamburger Friend of mine once did some work at Muzak's headquarters. They had music everywhere - EXCEPT for the elevators. They really want to get away from that idea folks have of them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34am
Meghan:

@Badguy.... I did a states theme where I did sort of go across the states as though you could drive through them (except for Alaska and Hawaii of course!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36am
Meghan:

this Alice Cooper song sounds like Pavement....
  8:37am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I think you can drive to Hawaii. The parents of Rodney from the Dead Milkmen drove a car up from the Bahamas and gave it to him. So I imagine driving to Hawaii isn't out of the question.
  8:37am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

LOOOOOOOOK OUT!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38am
Meghan:

BITCHIN' CAMERO!
  8:40am
Jim Devoid:

Dio had cute ears, just sayin' .
  8:42am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

There's a Jimi Hendrix statue in Seattle on Broadway next to the Muzak building.
  8:44am
Jim Devoid:

Van Gogh joke = borscht belt quality!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45am
Meghan:

hehe....the dorky art student in me. Making artist jokes and mooching on free food and drink at art openings
  8:47am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

If you thnk the Melvins are loud live you should hear 'em soundcheck. Without bodies to absorb the sound it's quite an experience. I flinch pretty much every time Dale hits a drum.
  8:53am
SteveL:

Badguyzero: Sounds like the Motorhead check I got to see once. Oy vey!
  8:54am
northguineahills:

Pretty darn awesome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54am
Meghan:

I remember My Bloody Valentine cleared out the people who came to see Buffalo Tom from the venue by creating a wall of feedback. That show was wicked loud!
  8:58am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

MBV played here a few years ago. I've had tinnitus ever since that show. The venue gave everyone earplugs on the way in. I had only ever worn earplugs once [a Turbonegro show as a result of the silly loud soundcheck they did]. When they got to the Holocaust coda in "You Made Me Realise" I pretty much knew I was probably looking at some kind of permanent hearing damage. It was so loud it made wind. My shirt was flapping. CRAY-ZEE!
  8:59am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Seeya next week, Meghan!
