Wow Jay, what happens when the Olympics are done? I would think since things have gone so well that it'll be a little sad to see them go. I've been exposed to it enough to feel a little wistful

Bill Mac:

Thanks, Jay....and Stanley, I'm drinking Tetley tea, generally run of the mill but tasting less... something... btw, I wanted to thank you again for the Viv show. I listened to more than 1/2 of it and learned a couple new things about the man.

Stanley:

Tetley - the working man's cuppa. Glad you're enjoying the Viv show.
  4:11am
Brian in UK:

How're you doing Jay? Getting back in the swing.
Stanley. It occured to me this week that when I was young I used to listen on Saturday mornings to Childrens Favourites with a character called Uncle Mac talking in between records. Things have not changed much!!!

You guys know much about the Grey Whistle Test?
Avatar 4:19am
Bill Mac:

@Jay What's this all about? Is it severe?
  4:22am
Stanley:

@Brian Family Favorites I remember but not Children's Favourites. There used to be a children's show on WFMU. It was very good.
  4:24am
Martyn:

Oh my, Childrens Favourites, Family Favourites, been there, done that.
  4:24am
jamesie:

There was a great show which used to run on BBC2 before Old Grey Whistle test called Disco 2 - Unlike the title it was v experimental with psychedelic visuals and 'head' music (progressive) as BBC used to call it. Pressing my eyelids up to the screen on the Sony Trinitron on acid
  4:25am
Jay/ London:

@ bill just talking to the NHS phone service now
  4:25am
Stanley:

The Old Grey Hairy Vest starring Whispering Bob - Bill that was all there was back in the day. Great show, bit old hippy but we we're were all a bit hippy then (and still are I suupose)

@Stanley, Greasy Kid Stuff with Hova and Belinda
  4:27am
Martyn:

Was Anne Nightingale on the OGWT too, or is my memory playing tricks again?
Avatar 4:30am
Bill Mac:

I'm hoping that there's enough old footage out on youtube to watch some of the programming. I caught an Alex Harvey thing on there that made me wonder how much other stuff is out there that I can watch. It was probably on par with The Midnight Special here in the states. It's how I got my first look at Genesis with Peter Gabriel.
  4:32am
Brian in UK:

Showing my age Stanley! I think the man's name was Derek McCulloch. Memory?
The FMU show was fun.
Bill, the OGWT ran for a long time playing 'serious' music. It was a good introduction to many styles of music. Live in studio playing. One cartoon to music per week for those stoned. The title came from the idea that if the doorman could whistle the tune it would be popular.
  4:33am
KP:

Thanks Bill, your a life saver, or a least a juicy fruit.
Avatar 4:34am
Bill Mac:

That's just the kind of useless trivia I was looking to wring out of you Brian! Love the doorman detail.
  4:35am
Stanley:

Bill - The Bonzos, Beefheart, all our favortes have at some time been on the show. It also ran a New Year's Eve review of the year and as a tender teenager I remember one year (1974?) They played that wonderful cartoon of 'Basketball Jones', check that out if you haven't seen it.
  4:36am
Stanley:

Mash it Up!
  4:36am
KP:

Old Grey Whistle Test. I have alot on boots. Yeah, hippie but ... by far best on it, not even close, is John Cooper Clark. Beasley Street.

@Stanley Basketball Jones by Cheech and Chong...I had a crazy music teacher that used to give us self control tests by playing us C & C records. If you laughed you failed

Stanley, love what John Peel mentioned of Viv S ringing up the Captain for a chat.
  4:44am

Did Chris Spedding have a hit with Motorbiking?
Avatar 4:56am
Bill Mac:

another bizarre TV moment occurred last weekend. I saw a Womble movie... I thought I heard that Spedding was a band member.... ring any other bells? I do recall Motorbiking... he also did something called Rockers Jubillee where he mimicked stars of the days guitar licks.
  4:57am
jamesie:

@brian yes cmp - once tuned in to 3 after 6 and saw the fugs leering into the b&w camera in 1965 doing crystal liaison live. sheer bliss - I was 11 but understood what was happening - i could not cope now.
  4:59am
Brian in UK:

I remember this cover getting a bit of stick at the time.

Great mix today, Bill.
Have a peaceful weekend everyone.
Avatar 5:43am
Bill Mac:

Brian, thanks for playing... be safe... see you next week
  5:43am
KP:

I saw Spedding with Robert Gordon. When the tickets were sold it was supposed to be Link Wray with him. Maybe that was the negative. Spedding was very reserved, not the foil Gorden needed. But i love that track you played, maybe because he is a little conservative on it.
Avatar 5:45am
Bill Mac:

Wow, nice... I'm trying to remember if Link was with Gordon when we saw him.... I wouldn't have been as impressed back then unfortunately
  5:58am

Another great show, setting me up fine for the weekend. You take care bro'.
