Listener comments!

Danne D:

It's the nice people block tonight :)
Hi Therese :)

Hi Danne!
  12:08am
Tom - In Marine Park Brooklyn:

hi Therese nice funky start !! and to all you funky listeners too ! ! !
  12:12am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Hi Therese! Did you get to see George Michael's performance during the closing ceremony?
Avatar 12:13am
Therese:

I watched exactly none of the Olympics, BGZ. Did I miss anything fantastic?
  12:14am
Droll:

This is the second time I've tuned in tonight to hear the Meco treatment given to a song from TV or film.

Meco still wins on electronic Beeeuuuuuuuu quotient.
  12:18am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

George performed "Freedom 90" early in the closing ceremony.

I watched just for snarky Twitter material. It didn't disappoint in that respect.
Avatar 12:21am
Therese:

I did notice plenty of Olympics-related Twitter snark.
  12:28am
Droll:

Looking for reverse-snark on George's Twitfeed I'm instead treated to a bizarre description of Bono being harassed by Spandau Ballet's band during his warm-up calisthenics:
GM: Just passed Bono warming up. He’s doing star jumps!
GM: The Spandau Ballet boys just spotted Bono doing his warm up. Every time he jumps, one of them shouts “Boing!”
GM: Bono’s now skulked away looking cheesed off. Howard Jones asked if he’d like a toastie, and Bono muttered, “No, I want world domination.”

Priceless.
  12:28am
Danne D:

I'm gonna go through racewalking withdrawal for another 4 years now.
  12:29am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Synchronized diving withdrawal here. :(
  12:31am
Danne D:

And left to ponder why there isn't a major handball league yet in the US :)
  12:35am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I'm wondering why Duran Duran wasn't involved in the passing of the Summer Olympics torch to Rio.
  12:35am
Danne D:

I remember those bumper stickers Therese :)
  12:36am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

What's the t-shirt slogan for the anti-fracking movement?

"Stand back! You can't frack!"
  12:39am
Danne D:

My Grandparents had a house on Route 23 back in the day.
My brother later lived in Hamburg with his family.
  12:39am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Richard Hatch
  12:39am
Danne D:

Demolition Derby Night was probably this past wednesday at the Sussex County Fair - been too long since I've gone :(
  12:40am
Danne D:

Apollo Creed was Carl Weathers.
  12:42am
Danne D:

Richard Hatch was the dude from Survivor. Maybe I missed something Therese said when I was figuring out what to type?
  12:42am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Old school BSG nerd here. Had the comic books, model kits, toys and all that good stuff. :)
Avatar 12:44am
Therese:

Yes, the Sussex County Farm & Horse Show, AKA the New Jersey State Fair! It's been a few years since I've been, but it is always a fun good time.
  12:45am
Danne D:

Btw, Therese I had to alert AP Mike to the existence of Fifty Shades of Gray Cupcakes being advertised (via window sign) at Mazur's Bakery in Lyndhurst.

Alas they were closed when I drove by. May need to find a way to somehow send him some (how I will be able to do this I have no idea)
Avatar 12:45am
Therese:

Re: Richard Hatch- two dudes, one name.
  12:46am
Danne D:

I was there the day the news came out that Jerry Garcia died - it was like a state funeral.
  12:46am
Danne D:

Used to go up for Demolition Derby night with my bro and his family.
Avatar 12:53am
Therese:

It's rare that I remember where I was when I heard that an artist passed, but I clearly remember finding out that Jerry Garcia had died while working at the bungee tower at Action Park.
  12:57am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

According to Wikipedia radium is the solid state and radon the gaseous state. Polonium, lead and bismuth are other forms of radium. It was also noted that radium is over one million times more radioactive than uranium of the same mass.
Avatar 12:59am
Therese:

See! That's why we didn't want it in our town!
  1:01am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I seem to recall being at the candle and "smoke supply" shop across from the comic book shop I worked at when I found out Jerry had passed away. That shop was pretty much the only place you could smoke a cigarette inside Pike Place Market [Seattle]. The people that worked at the shop were infinitely more bummed about Jerry's passing than me.
  1:01am
Droll:

Therese, Where did all the waste go instead?
  1:04am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

When I was in Jersey City in June I saw that some company is wanting to start fracking up there as well as building some sort of gas pipeline underground. Fracking activity here in the Dallas/Fort Worth metromess has been pretty heavy in recent years. We're starting to have earthquakes that can be felt. I can't recall that happening prior to fracking.
  1:05am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

What just happened??? Are you ok?

Was it that damned squeaky chair?
  1:06am
Chop Scott:

Therese! Digging the show as ever...
  1:07am
Droll:

BGZ, Clipboard fell off peg on wall due to fracking-induced earthquake. Or just butterfingers.
  1:10am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Did he fly his freak flag at half mast instead?
  1:11am
Danne D:

I dunno, Therese, I think that radon might've added to some of the mystique and lore of Traction Park ;o)
  1:12am
Danne D:

I could totally see Action Park having a swing that you dive out from and straight into a pool of radioactive liquid.
  1:12am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

You know...his name isn't really Nick Name.

It's Nicholas Name.
  1:13am
Droll:

BGZ, Do you really want to go on "thrill rides" operated by someone mourning Jerry Garcia? In how many different ways does that send warning signs?
  1:14am
Danne D:

The Dusty Show filling in for Aerial View makes it kinda like the CropDusty Show no?
  1:15am
Danne D:

I am jealous that Swagmas has arrived for you Therese.
  1:16am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

BLERG! I forgot to mention...my copy of "We Are Your Friends" arrived this week along with the Sonic Youth record and "The Year Punk Broke" DVD I won during one of your drawings. THANK YOU!!!
Avatar 1:18am
Therese:

Thank YOU for pledging, BGZ!
  1:18am
Julie:

I was sad to realize that "Southern gothic pop" is not particularly goth. Pity.
  1:19am
Danne D:

I have to admit that this song makes me think of this old ESPN promo featuring the great Robert Goulet:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1Zgd1h0ONQ
  1:19am
Danne D:

(There's like 16 of those Goulet spots and they're all pretty great)
  1:20am
Danne D:

They were 1st wave goths Julie ;)
  1:21am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Other item I forgot to mention...there's another Lee Hazlewood reissue on the way: "A House Safe For Tigers." Apparently it was the soundtrack to a made-for-TV movie in Sweden. Lee crosses all boundaries.
  1:23am
Danne D:

I like the idea that Rio street sweeper Renato Sorriso is now famous from the closing ceremonies of the olympics :)
  1:25am
Danne D:

I love how divisive Tom Waits is :)
I of course love Tom Waits :)
  1:28am
Julie:

What is Tom waiting for? His throat to heal?
Avatar 1:29am
Therese:

Zing!
  1:30am
Danne D:

Probably waiting for the next round (for the piano of course)
  1:31am
Danne D:

Tom Waits for no one
  1:31am
Julie:

Do you suppose Glenn Gould lubricated his piano with whiskey?
  1:32am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Sounds like he caught some kind of bug from that Christmas card from the hooker in Minneapolis.

(yes, I am a Waits fan!)
  1:34am
Julie:

Something tells me Therese has a chorus line costume, complete with hat. She is, in fact, one singular sensation.
Avatar 1:35am
Therese:

Julie, have you been peeking in my windows?
  1:38am
Julie:

How many lamps have you broken with those high kicks?
  1:38am
Danne D:

kick step kick leap kick touch AGAIN

Mom cleaned to that or the Evita soundtrack. I have thus memorized most of those two albums against my will. Know large chunks of the Che part of Evita from memory.
  1:38am
Julie:

Oh man now I'm singing along
  1:39am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

A few years ago I attended a performance of "A Chorus Line" by one of the touring casts. Had seats directly in front of the actor portraying Zach. It was distracting hearing his unamplified voice right behind me a split second before the amplified version emerged from the PA.
  1:40am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I've been pondering adding copies of the Bond theme singles to my record collection. I should just make it happen already.
  1:41am
Julie:

I have the Carly, the Sheena, and a well-worn 7" of Goldfinger that belonged to my parents.
  1:42am
Julie:

One of the best theatre lines ever comes from A Chorus Line (and very NY) "I went to PS Shit"
  1:45am
Danne D:

They put the rotating hosts next to your show because you're very nice, Therese :)
  1:47am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I must have watched "For Your Eyes Only" a bazillion times when it first arrived on cable. I requested the soundtrack as a Christmas gift. My mother thought the outfit of the woman on the cover was too skimpy so she hand-drew extended clothing on her.
Avatar 1:48am
Therese:

I recently heard Laura Cantrell sing "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" from Evita. It was lovely, as you'd expect.
  1:53am
Danne D:

Did you hear Laura's recent Fill-in, Therese? :)
  1:55am
Julie:

Oh that is the BEST song in Evita.
Avatar 1:56am
Therese:

I would agree, Julie!
  1:57am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

CONFESSION: I have never heard or seen "Evita." Not even the movie version. And I lurv Madonna.
Avatar 1:59am
Therese:

The movie version is, uh, competent.
  2:01am
Julie:

I like the movie version. I really think that was the role Madonna was born to play.
  2:04am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Hmm...the movie is available for rental on iTunes (grrrrrr). I wish Netflix or Amazon had it streaming. Maybe I'll return "JFK" to Netflix (since I've had it since October 2010) so I can get "Evita" sent to me.
  2:05am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I have soundboard recordings of a couple of those YLT shows with Alex Chilton. Todd Barry sits in on drums during the encore of one of the shows.

Is CD1 the player that's been causing headaches for everyone lately?
  2:20am
Nick Name:

@BadGuyZero:

it really is Nick Name.

Hi Therese,im in the library typing!
Avatar 2:25am
Therese:

Hi Nick!
  2:51am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

So what do you think the chances are of Sepultura playing either the opening or closing ceremonies of the 2016 Summer Olympics?
  2:58am
Danne D:

Thanks for a great show Therese :)
Good night all :)
  2:59am
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Fantastic show, Therese! Have a great week. See you next time!

See you later, Danne! You have a great week as well.
