	12:14pm tonyc: @ Tom Tiddler, RE Doll Parts cassette: Neither -- 'twas given to me by a friend of the band five or so years ago. Good cassette-only releases are very tough to find in thrift stores -- though it has happened.
	12:15pm Tom Tiddler: must say my favourite ever cassette was Cressida - Asylum that I found in Blackpool UK in about 1987. I played it to death and reminded me of Love's Forever Changes!

	1:12pm Ricardo Montalban: I remember in Michael Weldon's (also a DJ!) wonderful magazine Psychotronic Video, he'd publish lists like musicians that were boxers before becoming musicians, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't have a DJ list.

	1:14pm kat330: I performed radio theater with a Boston DJ (also together in the Boston Shakespeare Co.) who wound up married to Judith Light. Guess being a DJ leads to all sorts of arts careers.
	1:16pm Ricardo Montalban: I have a friend from Boston who's really into radio theatre. He isn't famous, but should be. Or at least infamous.
	1:16pm Michael: I wasn't here yet but Peter Wolf was a DJ in Boston before Geils hit.

	1:17pm kat330: Still doing it? Robert (Bob) Desiderio was the DJ / actor I'm talking about -- his "Hour of the Wolf" on WCOZ back in '76-'77.

	1:20pm Ricardo Montalban: I should as my friend. I'll bet he heard of him. He was a college DJ in Boston (not sure what school/station), he's also got a ton of reviews on AMG, back when they used to pay people to write reviews. His name is Rolf Sembrebon.

	1:28pm kat330: We did radio plays on Bob's show. Sartre's "No Exit" and Bradbury's "Dandelion Wine" come first to mind. I Loved Boston. Such a wonderful place for the arts, and probably remains so.
	1:30pm northguineahills: Any unit that makes sound, is a band to me. Two of my friends that made analogue Techno 5+ years ago use always use the term band when they played. I suppose you can various definitions of constitutes a band.

	1:46pm Ike: Heh, this is not one of the BBC's more distinguished moments. This Doctor Who spin-off's pilot was pretty bad and it never got off the ground.
	1:46pm kat330: @ngh: We only resumed it this past year. What I always do with our mags is periodically take them all over to a nursing home -- I'm the opposite of packrat.

	1:47pm tonyc: Don't think so -- the whole thing is the theme for the Brit show "K-9 & Co." ... a Doctor Who spin-off, I believe.

	1:51pm Tom Tiddler: never saw K9, although Tom Baker was my favourite Dr Who and the pseudo gothic Pyramids of Mars and Talons of Phang Rock probably my favourite episodes
	1:51pm Ike: Some of the Doctor Who soundtrack music of that early 80s era is really interesting and full of awesome synth sounds. I recommend the "Meglos" and "Full Circle" soundtracks if you can find them. Some similarities to the K-9 & Co. theme, but more ethereal, and obviously without the insane K-9 vocals!
	1:52pm kat330: We, of course, got the glow-in-the-dark NJ map in our mouse swag last December. Must have been a cartographer in a past life.
	1:52pm Michael Pollak: OK, I'm coming in late, and forgive me if this was answered and I didn't catch it when I skimmed, but what's TAKO and what's the Track 8? I enjoyed it whatever it was (I think it just ended).
	1:53pm tonyc: I've actually never seen a single episode of Doctor Who -- I'm sure I'm way overdue.
	1:54pm tonyc: @ Michael Pollak: Tako (sometime Taco) was an amazing '80s band from Japan. Titles are only given in Japanese -- hence "track 8"
	1:55pm Ike: LOL Tom, that's "Horror of Fang Rock"... a great episode indeed! I love how they seemingly made an evil shapeshifting alien out of a huge blob of plastic wrap with green light shining on it, and it actually came out looking pretty damn creepy. Great use of an extremely limited budget.
	1:57pm Tom Tiddler: was that the potato head alien, its so long since I have seen them?
	1:57pm northguineahills: I saw my first episode of Dr. Who last Christmas at my parents' house, since they have full cable. I've been watching on and off ever since. However, I've heard most of the various Dr. Who themes since its inception.
	1:58pm Ike: @Tony, you might like some of the early Tom Baker episodes of the 70s -- try "Ark in Space" and witness the BEST use of green bubble wrap EVER. Sci-fi on ~£4000 per 25-minute episode! But the soundtrack music didn't get really interesting (to me) until the 80s, when the show's writing slowly got increasingly nihilistic, cynical, and sometimes way too self-referential.
	2:00pm kat330: I only saw the Tom Baker Dr. Who. In that aforementioned Boston period AAMOF. On WGBH public station. Without cable, haven't seen any of the successors. Yet.
	2:00pm Tom Tiddler: Ike, suppose you saw the creepy Blake's Seven series written by Who writer Derence Dicks?
	2:01pm tonyc: @ Ike: I have 5 or 6 Doctor Who episodes lying around here on VHS, picked up in thrift stores -- some are Tom Baker-era. Will watch 'em soon...

	2:02pm Ike: @Tom, yeah, Blake's 7 is interesting. And no, the potato-headed warriors are the Sontarans. The current Dr. Who revival featured a hilarious Sontaran nurse in 2011. "You'll be up and around in no time. And perhaps one day you and I shall meet on the field of battle and I will destroy you for the glory of the Sontaran Empire."
	2:03pm kat330: @Tom: We bought the Blake's Seven series, watched and liked it. Also bought Sapphire and Steel, but still not finished with that. I'm not much of a fan of it.
	2:04pm Ike: I just saw the first Sapphire and Steel six-part serial -- it's so creepy! What an awesomely weird show! I liked it, but the end of the serial didn't live up to the beginning.
	2:06pm kat330: @Ike: Have to say, S&S has gotta be the most thrifty set and costume budget of about any program. Very slow pace. Sometimes I'm OK with that, but, well, it just never gripped me.

Also I always thought the Pyramids of Mars was ripped from Bram Stoker's Jewel of the Seven Stars, saying that though I also think Stargate was a rip off of Pyramids of Mars!

	2:14pm Ricardo Montalban: I'm trying to talk my wife into letting me paint the shed my well is in into a trompe l'oeil Tardis. It's just the right proportion. It's also visible from the road, so maybe that's her beef with it.
	2:14pm kat330: Stargate and Dune and Star Wars all borrowed heavily from the source: Edgar Rice Burroughs' "John Carter" (which we recently saw).
	2:16pm Ike: @tom, maybe you mean "Face of Evil," where he meets Leela, the awesome warrior woman? Best companion ever. And yes, "Pyramids of Mars" is one of the best, with obvious homages. I was so impressed that much of the current revival gets the spirit of the show correct. Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant. and Matt Smith were/are great Doctors. No more green bubble wrap though.

	2:18pm tonyc: I kind of like the John Carter novels, even if they are ridiculous. Burroughs was really good at action scenes -- not always easy in print.

	1:51pm Ike: Some of the Doctor Who soundtrack music of that early 80s era is really interesting and full of awesome synth sounds. I recommend the "Meglos" and "Full Circle" soundtracks if you can find them. Some similarities to the K-9 & Co. theme, but more ethereal, and obviously without the insane K-9 vocals!

	1:55pm Ike: LOL Tom, that's "Horror of Fang Rock"... a great episode indeed! I love how they seemingly made an evil shapeshifting alien out of a huge blob of plastic wrap with green light shining on it, and it actually came out looking pretty damn creepy. Great use of an extremely limited budget.

	1:57pm northguineahills: I saw my first episode of Dr. Who last Christmas at my parents' house, since they have full cable. I've been watching on and off ever since. However, I've heard most of the various Dr. Who themes since its inception.
	1:58pm Ike: @Tony, you might like some of the early Tom Baker episodes of the 70s -- try "Ark in Space" and witness the BEST use of green bubble wrap EVER. Sci-fi on ~£4000 per 25-minute episode! But the soundtrack music didn't get really interesting (to me) until the 80s, when the show's writing slowly got increasingly nihilistic, cynical, and sometimes way too self-referential.
	2:00pm kat330: I only saw the Tom Baker Dr. Who. In that aforementioned Boston period AAMOF. On WGBH public station. Without cable, haven't seen any of the successors. Yet.

I was so impressed that much of the current revival gets the spirit of the show correct. Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant. and Matt Smith were/are great Doctors. No more green bubble wrap though.
