Jay - What was with that Olympic opening ceremony?
  11:19am
KP:

Saw Joe South at a bottom line songwriter special. Just knew you were in presence of greatness and I'm not talking about Vin Scelsa (even he was a little awed).
  11:20am
Tom:

Letters to Cleo! Saw them twice in concert. How they didn't get to be #1 remains a mystery to me!
  11:25am
Jay/ London:

hey Michael what part do you mean of the opening ?
  11:26am
scott:

Unknown event=Godzilla attack!
  11:27am
paul:

Could've sworn you were gonna play "Tape Deck in His Tractor"
  11:28am
MK:

I remember Altman calling Timothy Brown "a better football player than he was a singer". True, but he's just right in NASHVILLE.
  11:31am
scott:

When shooting Nashville, Altman shot so much footage of the various characters and subplots that he considered releasing it as two parallel features taking place in the same time frame, and there was also some talk of reediting the footage as a longform TV mini-series. But I don't think that either of these edits were ever actually produced, and Altman was very big on controlling the final cut, so I have a feeling that we'll probably never get to see the Nashville outtakes on DVD. Too bad, cos there's got to be some amazing stuff....
  11:32am
paul:

I know. That's why I was expecting it. Never get tired of hearing it.
  11:33am
paul:

For what it's worth, Buddy Holly would have been 76 yesterday.
  11:45am
KP:

Going to see Bob at Mohegan Sun courtesy of another station (yes there such things, including one in Ct). Was going to take ferry but now concerned about "unknown event." Couild that include Nazis invading from Moon?
  12:13pm
Robert:

Was it here or on some other DJ's comment thread that I mentioned recently my realiz'n that what supposedly makes the lady gentle on his mind is not a characteristic of her per se, but of the persona of the voice?

Greetings from Seattle! LOVE this show!
  12:47pm
pp:

I listened to the Joe South interview and it was a great service to his memory that you edited it down. thanks
  12:57pm
Adam:

Saw this in the NYT obit for South: Mr. South loved music and technology from an early age. His father gave him a guitar when he was 11, and he was performing on local radio by the age of 12. He built small radio stations of his own with limited signal range, partly so he could play his songs.
“He would even put it in his car and ride around so that the F.C.C. and anybody else couldn’t track him down,” said Butch Lowery, referring to the Federal Communications Commission. Mr. Lowery’s father, Bill, ran a radio station and eventually became Mr. South’s publisher and manager.

Listener Jay:

That "Florida" song is flat out beautiful. It's also Sonny & Cher's "Baby Don't Go."
