Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from September 11, 2012 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Listener comments!

  3:04pm
Matt from Springfield:

Finally! My desk is open, ladies. I'm gonna enjoy this nice weather! ...

Hi Brian and fellow Turnerites!
Nice vocals from Ivor and Linda, coulda sworn it was going to be a Yoko piece.
  3:07pm
pierre:

I love this song !

Bonjour Brian Turner !
Bonjour listeners !
  3:07pm
dubinator:

Hails B to the T!

Hi Pierre, hey all.
  3:09pm
Matt from Springfield:

Bonjour pierre, hail-o dubinator, hey all!

First time I heard "Psychedelic Revolution"--appreciate it's anti-fatcat stance, and the general anti-institutionalized power stance of this show so far.
  3:11pm
Cecile:

hey everyone!
  3:12pm
pierre:

I'm glad i can throw a few comments here, live.
hi Matt !

Some changes happened at Bimbo Tower Brian ! You need to come back in France :D !
  3:12pm
BSI:

I tend to play it safe, & go strictly anti-cat. Fat or otherwise.
Those sumbitches cannot be trusted.
  3:12pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hey Cecile!

I've heard the title "Kyrie" before for a jazz cut, never heard it with an actual choir singing in the back!
  3:14pm
Cecile:

Jeez, alert the dance DJs. This Joshua Abrams is ripe for looping.
  3:14pm
Cecile:

hey, matt!
  3:14pm
Matt from Springfield:

@BSI: It's the indifferent look on their faces!! And, the turning away and walking off to get food when you're trying to explain the importance of trust to them!!
  3:16pm
Cecile:

Ugh, food.
Nothing like biting unawares into a bitter cucumber to kill your taste for anything. Bad crudites...
  3:17pm
BSI:

Exactly, Matt. You can't READ them. Whereas certain pups (like my own) are so bloody transparent, you can read every thought that crosses their lovable empty brains. Still huggin' the shit outta him, since Scott Williams' last show...
  3:17pm
Cheri Pi:

Damnit I missed the first 17 minutes, I hate myself.
  3:21pm
Cheri Pi:

I was all over my dog last night too. that rascal.
  3:21pm
Matt from Springfield:

OMFG YES!!!
What a take on this! Who else thought he'd changed the lyrics to "White lightnin" at first? :)
  3:22pm
Mike East:

@Cecile - I've been thinking the same about bad peaches lately.
Nothing worse in my mind than a mealy peach.
  3:22pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Cheri Pi: You can't change the past, but you can change the future.
See back and enjoy! Then, sit back and enjoy the Archive for 17 minutes!
  3:22pm
pierre:

huggin' the shit outta things, that sounds good.
aaaah i'm very relaxed here with you people…
  3:22pm
northguineahills:

Damn, this Ralph Stanley is making my afternoon.

Looks like I got a job, it pays less then half then my last one, and it's way out in Long Island, but I get to map the LIRR out in the field, so it should be fun. Oh, and I only work 6 hours a day, but get paid for 8, since I can't work during the the LIRR rush hours.
  3:23pm
Cecile:

I'm a bit torn. I wonder if he felt like my mom looked when my sister decided to sing "blister in the sun" at the top of her lungs at her. awkward...
Avatar 3:23pm
BT:

Pierre, is Franq OK? Store open?
  3:23pm
Cheri Pi:

I will. I will! Whenever I go to an archive I always read the comments in chronological order too, so I can feel like I was there.
  3:24pm
BSI:

Congrats, NGH: still workin' on that, myself. Keeping the Reaper at bay with talismans of garlic, crosses of dove-bones, and freelance gigs...
  3:24pm
Stanley:

Hi Brian Hi all. Great to hear two records playing at once. I can make out Hawkwind is one of them and the other?
  3:25pm
Cheri Pi:

Charles Albright was pretty rawking. tell us more BT...
  3:25pm
Cecile:

hahahahhaha, stanley.
  3:26pm
Stanley:

Now this one has got me truly stumped.
Avatar 3:27pm
BT:

Uh, I dont think I was playing two records with the Albright haha
  3:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

HOORAY NGH!
Glad you found a job! At least there are some bright spots to it, too.
  3:28pm
pierre:

Yeah Frank's ok, the store opened on the 1st of september with changes on the display, and a few new stuff, apparently françois (the guy working with him) stopped. He seem ok, i saw him twice this week. I'm pretty sure he has a lot of work.
  3:29pm
Cheri Pi:

It's probably me...I'm on cold meds AGAIN!!
  3:30pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Cheri: That's a good talent to have--I've heard of listeners reading comments in chron order, but I myself can't resist when there's an Archive! Always tend to read those before listening.
  3:31pm
Mike East:

too much stuff for me to check out in the month's Blast of Hot Air...I'm on overload!!! so many open tabs.
  3:33pm
jk:

hey, I just got this Frank Rosaly record in the mail to play tonight. Excellent!
  3:33pm
Jonny:

Jonny Tuned in!! Was just looking at that Joshua Abrams record online when you played it, my psychic music brother.
  3:37pm
Stanley:

@Cheri - I've heard that the deejay gets notified of any comments that get added after the event. Its tempting to find a playlist from years back and leave some weird comment just to freak 'em out.
  3:39pm
Cheri Pi:

Those are the best Stanley-those "Ghost comments." How many d'ya think are floating around out there???
  3:41pm
DCE:

afternoon all!
  3:43pm
adam:

this rules - now put on some birds of maya!
  3:44pm
SteveL:

Many, I was just talking about how I haven't heard any Bevis Frond that I don't like. The trend continues! Cool (and tough) cover.
  3:44pm
northguineahills:

Thanks, everyone!
  3:45pm
Matt from Springfield:

Afternoon, D-C-to-the-E!
  3:45pm
SteveL:

"Man." I said "Man" at the beginning of that sentence.
  3:46pm
paula pc:

bevis frond twice in one day on FMU! HOORAY!!!
  3:48pm
Stanley:

@Cheri - I don't know but I've left the odd note of my belated presence here and there, often to my embarassment after a 'night out'.
  3:48pm
Cheri Pi:

Man, SteveL-Im with you on that.
  3:50pm
Cheri Pi:

know I've screamed "Voivod" into the void of a past comment board. there's no shame.
  3:50pm
paula pc:

OH MY GOODNESS. I look up this band thinking it has to be Killdozer, and instead it's Stanless Steel, whose T-shirt I was wearing YESTERDAY.
  3:51pm
Cheri Pi:

Perhaps Matt FS will also compile a coffee table book of "Lost comments after dark"
  3:51pm

  3:53pm
Stanley:

Best I saw was some dude commenting on the WFMU board whilst listening to the GTDS stream. Got quite confusing.
  3:53pm
Matt from Springfield:

I have occasionally chanced upon comments on old Archives, long after the show ended!
I could write a script with the help of Kenzo, to find all comments posted more than a week after the playlist date, compile and interpret them for my 2nd best-selling coffee table book..
  3:54pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Stanley: That happens fairly often, especially at the start of shows when there's a show on an alternate stream at the same time.
  3:57pm
BSI:

@Cheri: I'll be expecting a subliminal "VOIVOD!!!!!!!!!" message in that FMU documentary...
  3:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

Nice treats are fun!
And it would seem Shock And Awe-tober is BACK! YES!
  4:00pm
Cecile:

Judas Priest?
I just caught the tail end of that...had to go do the mail run.
  4:00pm
SteveL:

No one has enough Judas Priest.
  4:00pm
Cecile:

hahahahahahahaha
You should send the message to him, Cheri.
  4:01pm
Matt from Springfield:

SAVOIR FAIRE! I HEART this one!
  4:01pm
Cecile:

I would say up to their last two. And the one with Ripper. And I have my days where I dont' like Turbo and it doensn't like me.
  4:01pm
Matt from Springfield:

@pierre: If you're still out there, could you please type out the French chorus to this song? I've never been able to break it out or find the lyrics printed out.
  4:02pm
Cheri Pi:

oooo BSI- my Subliminal message is something that Cecile baby and I worked on last year for DK, but it may be worth it to donate another sum from my Voivod vanity-plate fund to do that. "Voivod!!!"
  4:03pm
Cheri Pi:

When people comment on the WFMU boards and they are on drugs or drunk, they should always announce that, for science. I am on Genera-feds.
  4:04pm
BSI:

I couldn't summon the scratch to do the subliminal message, though it was tempting. Plenty of BSI catch-phrases to go around.
...HEY BT, this Humongous track is ridiculous. And awesome.
  4:04pm
Cheri Pi:

Good Idea Cecile! I will send BSI the package, perhaps he could assist making it "road worthy"
  4:06pm
Cheri Pi:

Nice interview from a few days ago about Priest's 8th album-Screamiing for Vengeance. Yes-8!!!

I think you also have the version w/o the rhubarb and the buckeyes, so I may have to resend to you.
  4:07pm
Carmichael:

Hey ya BT, hi everyone.
  4:08pm
Cheri Pi:

please do, CB.
  4:09pm
Cecile:

screaming for vengeance their best album? Hell, I like Point of Entry better than that one.
  4:09pm

D&D I resemble that remark.
  4:09pm
Cecile:

and Defenders of the Faith was great.

  4:14pm
Cheri's Parents:

"now kids, we can only afford ONE copy of British Steel, so Cheri gets it on Monday-Wednesday-Friday and the odd Sunday..."
  4:14pm
Cecile:

Cheri, did you call CPS? That's just wrong.
  4:15pm
Cecile:

and did you go up into the treehouse, fight over it, and then it fell into the storm, waterlogged, scratched and unplayable? :D
  4:15pm
Cheri Pi:

exactly! and we were latch-key kids so it'd be all out war until the second they came home from work.
  4:17pm
DCE:

I have to find out how many bands took the name "Latch-Key Kids". Remember when that was the new thing to be worried about?
  4:17pm
Cheri Pi:

Finally I was able to baby-sit and earn a decent album-buying income.
  4:18pm
DCE:

haha, looks like a lot did
  4:19pm
Cecile:

I was a first-wave latchkey-er. My mom went back to work my sophmore year of high school in ugh, 1977.
  4:20pm
Matt from Springfield:

@DCE: Sounds like it would be pretty common, even before the Internet era when you can find out more easily.

After reading "1984" I started searches on how many bands named themselves after terms from that story--"Two Minutes Hate" has been used by several bands, not surprisingly.
  4:20pm
Cecile:

it was good and bad, but when i left home I sure could cook something basic, shop for groceries and do laundry. I'm amazed at people in their 20s who still can't do those things.
  4:21pm
Cecile:

matt, Russ Myer movies and the Manson murders are perennial fonts for band names.
  4:21pm

I'll be on a mountaintop about 48 hours from now, and I'll see if I find any next-work wisdom in the summit wind.

Cecile was NWOBHLKK (New wave of British heavy metal Latch key Kids) before it was cool.
  4:22pm
Matt from Springfield:

If this song is *like* wine, I want some of THEIR wine!
  4:22pm
DCE:

always loving the Sun Araw...sounds like a fine release for fall hikes followed by copious amounts of wine.
  4:22pm
Cecile:

but Cheri, I remember my sisters just beating each other up, me calling my mom at work and holding up the phone so my mom could yell at them.
  4:24pm
Cecile:

if by wine you mean ecstacy dissolved in pruno.
  4:24pm
DCE:

Matt, his wine may have schedule 1 controlled substances in it...
  4:25pm
Cecile:

hahahahaha DCE.
  4:26pm
Matt from Springfield:

I guess then if I were to use a Manson-related name for a band, it'd have to be obscure, like: "Party at Terry Melcher's!" That would be good for a punk lineup, and few people would know the grizzly subtext of that name!
  4:26pm
Cheri Pi:

Yeah Cecile, I feel ya-I'm not joking when I say all out war- we were like the Lord of the Flies from 3:30- 5:30 pm.
