Avatar 6:57pm Billy Jam:

In addition to playing some old school hip-hop plus Irish & UK hip-hop on WFMU on today's one-hour show I will also present a live half-hour freestyle beats n turntablism session with DJ DnZ, and beatmakers Dawgisht and Bomani -all pictured here on playlist at the session recorded at Hip Hop Slam Oakland a few months ago. This is the never before aired outtake bonus session recorded live with no overdubs (just a couple of edits on the curse words).
  7:01pm Eons One:

Checkin in Billy. Those Tools of War jams look SIIIIICK! Thanks for this.
Avatar 7:03pm Billy Jam:

And now from a Harlem Park to Harlem World we rewind 31 years earlier with Grandmaster Caz along with the Cold Crush Brothers - Hey EONS ONE!
  7:05pm wow:

Billy is in the House! Turn on the night.
Avatar 7:06pm Billy Jam:

Thanks for listening to W F M U
Avatar 7:09pm Billy Jam:

Shout out to Nick Caldarone and all else tuned in today
Avatar 7:12pm Jimmy in Boston:

lovin the old school - they dont make it like this anymore
  7:14pm Caryn:

Oh man, the Irish accent is just icing on the cake.
Avatar 7:17pm Jimmy in Boston:

what Caryn said - Nice!
  7:23pm To Caryn:

And he's a good looking Celt as well.
  7:27pm other david:

loving this, Billy!
  7:29pm Caryn:

@Jimmy & To Caryn: It's just that most of the Irish hip-hop I've heard has had less pronounced regional accents. Hearing a strong accent rapping about their "loife" is fabulous when you can hear it.
Avatar 7:33pm Billy Jam:

hey Caryn - be sure to tune into the Irish special in 3 weeks when most of the music (and interviews and freestyles) I will be playing is new Dublin hip-hop and HEAVY on the accents
  7:34pm Caryn:

I know, Billy, got that pencilled into my calendar already :)
  7:35pm Timi Dz Nutz:

All the Live with The Hip Hop Slam Crew....
Avatar 7:35pm Billy Jam:

hey Other David - thanks for tuning in
Avatar 7:36pm Billy Jam:

  7:37pm other david:

The horrible thing is, you'd get a lot of people here in Ireland sneering at people using their real accents when singing/mc'ing.

And a lot of Irish bands seem to want to pretend they're from the US, rather than sounding.. err Irish!
  7:38pm Caryn:

Also gotta give props to you, Billy, for playing the more political Irish hip-hop. More interesting than the more run-of-the-mill party stuff.
  7:38pm other david:

So yeah, real accents = win
  7:38pm Timi Dz Nutz:

BBBIIIIILLLLLYYYYY....Shit I was just near your house. I'm miss'n out.1.!
7:40pm The Rapper With No Name:

Billy Jam steady slangin sonic grams, from the Bay to Ireland, got Dawgishit in the cans hittin with that boom blam blam, bap, the wu tang clan rap, the dirty gritty greezy, it aint easy rap make the hands instead of the gun clap. Billy, bring it back
  7:41pm chris:

Hey, Billy Jam! Hey, other cool folks! Really enjoying this set! Yeaaaahh!
Avatar 7:42pm Billy Jam:

thanks Chris, hey Rapper With No Name - Wot up Timi D?
Avatar 7:45pm Billy Jam:

Note that this is a totally live freestyle session with no edits or overdubs (except for where I reversed curse words) - Pretty damn talented fellows are DnZ, Dawgisht, and Bomani - Love it!
  7:48pm chris:

Any pics of the setup, Billy Jam? Tables, beat pads/sequencers? Is that a synth?
Avatar 7:49pm Billy Jam:

that is the set up but not a synth - sampler
  7:50pm chris:

Effin sick! Mad skills! props from west Marin...
Avatar 7:54pm Spidey:

  7:54pm other david:

"effin sick!" sums this is up pretty well!
  7:55pm Caryn:

Man, in my woozy state that last couple of instrumental minutes were putting me into a weird trance.
Avatar 7:56pm Billy Jam:
