  7:49am duke:

All of the clowns at the special congress of clowns came in the same car.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55am Doug Schulkind:

Let's hope it was a rugged, family-sized vehicle (pronounced VEE-hick-ull).
  8:49am Merv:

Just read the newsletter-- The end of HBR! I thought it would never come...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52am Doug Schulkind:

@Merv
I have been silently praying that the folks from HBR start that series up again. In the meantime, you should be aware of their website:
hillbilly-researcher.blogspot.com
  8:55am listener james from westwood:

can't sleep ... clowns will eat me ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56am Doug Schulkind:

There was a "Please Don't Feed the Clowns" sign posted, but the clowns ate it.
  8:59am Jeff G:

Pretty sure that's also the clown periodic table.
  8:59am ndbob:

morning Doug and everyone!
  8:59am Jeff G:

GAH. PERIODIC table.
MOAH COFFEE.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00am Doug Schulkind:

Hi Jeff and howdy ndbob.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:00am Doug Schulkind:

Jeff, I will fix your typo for a small fee.
  9:01am Jeff G:

FEE = pie in face, I'm guessing.
  9:02am Merv:

Yup, I went to the website the other day because I was curious about the project... Interesting that the folks are from the UK... According to the post here: http://somelocalloser.blogspot.com/2011/07/hbr-cd-75-wheeling-west-virginia.html that website isn't actually related to the other hillbilly researcher...
  9:03am listener james from westwood:

jeff g: those clowns on the right would be noble clowns, then.
morning everyone and happy friday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:04am Doug Schulkind:

@Merv
Wow, really? Different UK-based Hillbilly-Researchers? Who knew!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05am Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff
Bend down and smell my carnation.
  9:06am Jeff G:

No way, Doug. Fool me once...

@ljfw: was thinking we could come up with new groupings. The Hat group; the Sads; the Balds; the Bow Ties etc.
  9:08am Merv:

Hard to believe! I guess there's no evidence that hillbilly researcher website is from the UK though... Just the originals... Seems confusing- I'll stick to listening instead of researching...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am Doug Schulkind:

@Merv
Take that straw outta your teeth when you do your researchin'. It's so undignified.
  9:12am Jeff G:

This is good, but needs a bit more chchchchchchcchchchhhhhh...
  9:16am dcp@:

hey man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff
The chchchchch has been replaced by the nyuhnyuhnyuhnyuh.

Morning dcp!
  9:18am Parq:

That's it; I'm changing the name of my autobiography to "Bend Down and Smell My Carnation". G'morning all.
  9:19am kat330:

Send in the clowns? They're already here!

Hiya, Doug and fellow Givers!
  9:20am dcp@:

double reeds! My daughter just took up the oboe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22am Doug Schulkind:

Just keep reminding her, dcp, it's all about the embouchure.
  9:23am Parq:

"Congress" of clowns "came" in the car -- huh-huh, huh-huh!
  9:24am dcp@:

good advice Mr. Drummer, thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am Doug Schulkind:

@Parq
If you were looking for some parliamentary procedure, you're out of luck.
  9:25am trish:

Make-up - you're not a clown without it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff
Matt Shipp mentioned D:O on FB just now.
  9:26am pgw in mntclr:

i had classes in high school with the oboe player of the school band. he pretty much had his reed in his mouth whenever he wasn't speaking.
  9:27am trish:

FB ? Fulcrum Bias ?
  9:28am ndbob:

great set here Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am Doug Schulkind:

Hello trish! (FB = Facebook, pre-make-up Face)
  9:32am trish:

"They trust me... dumb fucks" - Mark Zuckerberg.
  9:38am dcp@:

Wizard of Oz=fave film. My mother says indeed, her breath was taken away with the door to color scene. Biggest cinema moment in her childhood.
  9:38am ?:

re: the Wizard of Oz, I think it is well-documented that people were gasping in the theaters when it switched to color. . .
  9:39am still b/p:

Hullo. I'm cloudy and headachey this morning.
Clownliness is next to grogginess.
  9:39am ndbob:

ever see any or the early, silent, Oz films?
  9:39am Jeff G:

Speaking of Bismillah Khan, saw Rudresh Mahanthappa play last night. He is good at what he does. (Connection is that RM did a post for D:O once on Indian classical music, and hipped us to BK.)
  9:41am ?:

@ndbob: didn't know there were such films. assume they are of different Oz-related stories? Any way to get them for personal home viewing (assuming they are good)?
  9:41am Jeff G:

MP3 links are gone, but here is Rudresh's post: http://destination-out.com/?p=232
  9:41am holland oats:

how you gonna fit all those songs into that tiny radio drumma?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am Doug Schulkind:

@Holland Oats
At least it's not a tinny radio. (Oh yes it is.)
  9:45am ndbob:

Im pretty sure they are on DVD - and some are on YouTube
  9:46am ndbob:

there are 1910 - and 1925- versions of the wizard of oz - the patchwork girl of oz from 1914 etc
  9:46am Brian in UK:

Hello Doug & folks, back from the country. Peaceful. Sky full of stars.
All these clowns & I can't see no politicians.
  9:47am ndbob:

there's also a cd of songs from the 1903 musical
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am Doug Schulkind:

@Brian
How can you tell the difference? (Hey-Ohhh!)
  9:49am dcp@:

whoa....never heard of Red Hot Ole Mose before. Nice.
  9:49am holland oats:

really mansfield!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gwXJsWHupg
  9:50am ?:

thx, ndbob. sappy, but true: it warms my heart that even in this day and age (internets, tv and computer screens every 2 seconds) when I showed the Wizard of Oz to my then-6 year old son he was blown away by the transition to color and loved the movie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Doug Schulkind:

Oops, forgot to say warm welcomings to you kat330!
  9:53am ndbob:

the early Oz films are totally different from the 1939 one - the scarecrow is the star of the 1925 version
  9:54am Jeff G:

...and we have a Disnified OZ coming next year to look forward to/dread...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am Doug Schulkind:

@Jeff
No! That's actually horrifying.
  9:56am dcp@:

ndbobo: wait, the Scarecrow ISN'T the star of the '39 version?
  9:58am dcp@:

great set drummer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am Doug Schulkind:

@dcp
I am rocking in a fetal position, too.
  10:00am ndbob:

@dcp the highlight of the 1914 patchwork girl of oz film is a cubist cat

wrldsrv.blogspot.com...
  10:22am Brian in UK:

Well Hugo I guess a clown would have a silly 'phone, probably spray you with water when it rings.
  10:25am Hugo:

Brian, that'd be the latest in smartphones.
  10:31am 3-ring tones:

When's Big Apple Circus releasing the newest piePhone?
  10:32am Jeff G:

Ok, thanks, Drummer! Gotta run. Hope to see some of you on Monday at noon.

AND: happy (early) birthday, John Coltrane (9/23) (23/9, for Brian).
  10:59am kat330:

I think I've spotted the Clown Congressman of Ireland. Which one represents US though?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Doug Schulkind:

Yeah, Ireland really goes the high-profile route. I think the U.S. clown was in the bathroom and missed the group photo.
  11:14am Carmichael:

Yo Dougie and peoples. I have first dibs to bag on Irish politicians. Actually, 2nd dibs, cause I'm an export. Other David is our man on the ground in Eire.
  11:15am kat330:

This Battiato is so very nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:15am Doug Schulkind:

@Carm
You have all the dibs you want. Preferably with some nice BBQ sauce.
