Listener comments!

  11:47am kat330:

Here early because, as usual, I need to be off keyboard the first noon minutes.

Hi, Charlie, and welcome back to the stream!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am charlie:

ty, kat330! and welcome back to you too! Maybe you need one of those around-the-neck keyboards-on-a-strap like those bands in the 80s had :)
  11:55am kat330:

And a bluetooth since a routine call from Philo comes at the stroke of noon. :)
  11:57am Michael:

Hey now charlie - we all missed you last week. For what 'FMU is paying you that should never happen.
  11:59am listener james from westwood:

hello all! working away from the computer today but happy to hear charlie back on the streamwaves!
  12:00pm ndbob:

heya charlie, kat, michael, everyone
  12:00pm ndbob:

hello james
  12:01pm Webhamster Henry:

Good post meridian, Charlie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm charlie:

Yo, Michael, James, Bob!
Is it rock or is it jazz?
  12:02pm Michael:

Gosh - one of my favorite 20+ minute tracks based on a legendary boxer. I mean that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm charlie:

Happy afternoon, Herr Hamster.
(Miles answering my question...)
  12:05pm Tower:

Hey Charlie, nice start to the show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm charlie:

that was a good note there, miles!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm charlie:

Hi(gh), Tower! Nice to see you.
  12:07pm kat330:

Hey, Bobb! :) Spent a bit of time at your blog, loving the photos, like the hummingbird hovering over butterfly. Regarding your blog's Vintage 1920's Toaster: I was reminded of a cartoon in the current NYer here: http://tinyurl.com/d83zd2c
  12:08pm Michael:

Dunno if it's jazz or rock or rozz or pazz or jop. But it damn fine.
  12:12pm Brian in UK:

Hello Charlie, it's a rockin' right hook line.
  12:13pm Brian in UK:

......and sinker
  12:14pm kat330:

So is the lady in the clouds wearing a nightie and go-go boots? Not sure which music styles that would suggest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm charlie:

Good afternoon, Brian.
She's wearing a diaphanous dress and dappled sunlight, kat330!
  12:17pm kat330:

Oh, then jazz of course -- eight Miles high in the beam of Binky.
  12:17pm Doug S.:

I think she is wearing a diaphanous binky.
  12:18pm kat330:

Hey-ho, Doug! Dentist behind you?
  12:19pm Brian in UK:

It reminds me of Julia Margaret Camerons early photographs.
  12:20pm Doug S.:

Home sweet home! Busy Doing sweet Nothing!
  12:20pm Michael:

My daughter had a few binkies that were a bit diaphanous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm charlie:

The picture is a still from a music video for a song that I will play later in the show.
  12:21pm ndbob:

@kat Thanks! - been working my way through yours as well:)
  12:22pm kat330:

For whatever reason, she reminds me of something Marianne Faithful or Jane Asher might have posed for.

Oh, then I'm clearly off the mark.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm charlie:

The lyrics of this song translate as:
Look after your children... If given proper care and attention they will grow up to be disciplined and well mannered.
  12:23pm kat330:

@ndbob: As long as it's from the *back forward*, super!
  12:25pm kat330:

So long as they also grow up to have loads of Zambiance!
  12:31pm Jan:

Listening! Hey Charlie, can you play Daisy by Buffalo Daughter? Or do you even do listener requests?
  12:32pm Katya Oddio:

Derp! Howdy, y'all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm charlie:

Hi Jan & Katya O!
Hey Jan -- not sure I have that one, but will check.
  12:35pm kat330:

Hello, Katya!
  12:37pm Katya Oddio:

Saw the pic last week as bearded, long-haired dude. Will have to see the video to make it out, s'pose.
  12:39pm kat330:

I believe that's wind-blown hair over her face. Maybe she's just executed a twirl or a hair flip?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm charlie:

She's walking away, actually :)
  12:41pm kat330:

Ohhhh. Wow. Heh!
  12:43pm kat330:

Optical illusion of breasts and toes pointed to the fore. Then again, my eyesight couldn't vouch for anything.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm charlie:

I think she looks a little like a bell...
  12:46pm kat330:

With the hidden leg, yes. Since she's walking away, I understand better your comment last week about whether she'd still be here this week. BTW, really like this Sabbah piece.
  12:52pm northguineahills:

I dj'ed w/ Dj Cheb I Sebbah twice 7 years ago, interesting lad.
  12:53pm Gary Mitchell:

i wanna catch me some vapors
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm charlie:

Cool, NGH, was that in SanFran?
Hiya Gary, you don't gotta catch no vapors, you already hang with all the celebs :)
  12:55pm Katya Oddio:

Love following Biz Markie with Ms. London!
  12:57pm kat330:

@NGH: Loved -- seriously -- loved the Cumulus set! I've decided I'll savor my time up in your clouds and not go on to a new set yet. Note: @ about 17 min. mark of Cumulus, that ascending chromatic scale that continues way up to hands-over-ears pitch heights and then there's a segue into a heartbeat. Wonderful! My iTunes doesn't show the track titles, and I didn't notice times on the setlist, but I'm sure you know of what I speak.
  12:58pm green mountain man mark:

Hey! I think that was our old Kenny G? That sound bite about being a boring writer?
  12:58pm ndbob:

Heya Gary!
  12:59pm Doug S.:

I heard Kenny G there, too.
  12:59pm Tower:

This has to be one of maybe two places on earth where you would hear those Biz Markie and Julie London back to back.
  1:00pm Tower:

Hello there Gary, Bob, and everyone else I didn't say hello to earlier.
  1:03pm kat330:

Ahhhh, I loooooove this song!!
  1:03pm ndbob:

Hey Tower!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm charlie:

Didn't Biz and Julie tour together?
  1:05pm kat330:

Charlie, I never had VH-1/MTV -- no cable -- so you will let us know when the "video song" plays? Um, is this Orton it?
  1:06pm northguineahills:

Actually, I played w/ DJ Cheb I Sabbah here in NYC. The first place was an Indian antique furniture store, cafe, bar, club, front for a drug op (which my dj partner and I found out when we went to dj one night, and the place was padlocked w/ a NYPD notice saying it was closed for an investigation) on Park & 23rd, and the other place was Open Air on St Marks & A.

@kat: That was Ryoji Ikeda.
  1:10pm kat330:

Thanks, NGH! [And apologies to all for my off-topic notes to Bob & NGH on this list. More appropriately done in email but addresses not found. Sorry!]
  1:11pm green mountain man mark:

very vedic, of course. within you, without you. wfmu is very vedic in a strange way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm charlie:

NGH -- please post or send link to that set!
ndBob -- please send link to your blog!
@kat330 -- It's the next song. And it is from the days before video, actually a film done to accompany the song.
  1:12pm ndbob:

@kat I'll send mine to you in a Tumblr "ask"
  1:14pm kat330:

OK (x2). The title is certainly appropriate.
  1:15pm ndbob:

will do Charlie!
  1:15pm northguineahills:

Ok, here's a link to that set. I can't believe it's been so long since I've done an interesting dj set (as opposed to something to keep kids moving at a club/bar): http://radioruidotriangulation.blogspot.com/2011/08/north-guinea-hills-radio-ruido.html
Click on the cloud names for the mp3s.
  1:18pm kat330:

FWIW, ndbob & ngh, my email is "coded" [to disguise from spambots] in my profile, at least at posterous.
  1:20pm kat330:

Actually, heh, NGH's discussed set list is very much on topic to your Clouds set, Charlie.
  1:20pm ndbob:

ty kat!
  1:21pm northguineahills:

I love John Renbourn!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm charlie:

Me too, NGH! He was a big influence on my guitar playing...
  1:27pm Katya Oddio:

Never had any idea that Carly recorded anything like that. Always learning with Charlie.
  1:31pm kat330:

@Katya: Yeah, I was away from the list when Carly was playing, and I somehow thought it was the Roaches -- at least I *think* that's the sound I mean.
  1:33pm Gary Mitchell:

like this "Reascension" track, mon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm charlie:

That whole song is about birds and flying, samples all kinds of songs and spoken-word records.
  1:37pm northguineahills:

CCR doesn't get enough respect (channels my inner Rodney Dangerfield)
  1:37pm kat330:

Saw someone dissing CCR on some FMU list a while back. I saw Fogerty live (his Blue Moon tour? I think), and it was superb rocking.
  1:39pm kat330:

What you said, ngh, simultaneously.
  1:41pm kat330:

OMG! :) This is on my very short list of songs to, um, get in the mood. TY, Charlie!
  1:42pm Tower:

I love the picture sleeve for the Talking Heads 45 of this song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm charlie:

I live to get y'all to enjoy Carly without knowing it!
  1:43pm kat330:

You have a link, Tower?
  1:44pm kat330:

CCR = Blue Moon Swamp tour.
  1:45pm northguineahills:

I love Yo la Tengo's cover of this song.
  1:46pm Jan:

Charlie- what is this about buildings and food? I just saw on line a photograph show with the same theme...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm charlie:

I don't know, Jan, but I want to know! Send or post link if possible. Maybe the show was inspired by the Talking Heads' album title?
  1:53pm green mountain man mark:

evolution, freedom, fulfillment. wfmu
  1:55pm Tower:

I couldn't find a really good link that was short and not a totally commercial site. It shows a church in the backround with a sign out front saying Full Gospel Tabernacle - Pastor - Al Green.
  1:58pm kat330:

Having spotty stream losses -- or something intentional?

@Tower: Thank you for trying! And, yes the Rev. version does every bit the same thing in the mood department. :)

Charlie, TY for piloting our flight beyond the clouds today!
Have a good rest of your Thursday everyone!
  1:58pm northguineahills:

Thanks for a great afternoon set, Charlie!
  1:59pm Katya Oddio:

Was same here, kat330. Better since Stereo Total.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm charlie:

thanks for being here today everyone! I look forward to seeing you all next week. xox -- c
  1:59pm ndbob:

@kat same here ... great show Charlie!
  2:00pm kat330:

I guess it was just a Random thing for me as well. ;)
  2:01pm Jan:

great show!
  2:01pm Katya Oddio:

Thanks, Charlie. Cheers, all!
  2:01pm Michael:

Thanks charlie - always a pleasure!
  2:02pm Gary Mitchell:

Charlie for President in 2013!
  2:02pm Tower:
