@12539: Lurking not shirking!
  12:37am
Matt from Springfield:

Yo yo yo-yo, Joe!
Hey Joe and everyone! Not purely a dub show, of course, but always welcome to play a little!
  12:38am
Andrew Waterloo:

I'm reading, and this is a good soundtrack.
  12:39am
Matt from Springfield:

Shirk? This brings up an old Fraggle song, but I love the lyrics here:
"Does a Doozer ever doze
Does a Doozer shirk
Does a Doozer thumb his nose
At doing Doozer work?"
  12:40am
Matt from Springfield:

Safe harbor I hope? Always lookin' out for the station.
Avatar 12:40am
Joe McG:

Hey, Matt, what's up? Is a Doozer anything like a Dozer? (I think we're OK.)
  12:41am
Matt from Springfield:

Oh YAY!!!! I've heard this album before in the last few days, but I'm so proud the comp "Go Go Get Down: Pure Ghetto Funk from Washington DC" has honored the artists of my locality!
  12:43am
Matt from Springfield:

@Joe: Doozers are little, productive construction workers who build crystalline towers out of radish dust...unless someone's smokin' something weird, I don't expect anyone to see them now! ;)
  12:43am
Holly in NC:

It's a great comp, Matt
Avatar 12:44am
Joe McG:

You're lucky, Matt, to have go go in your back yard!
  12:48am
Matt from Springfield:

Chuck Brown! RIP. Go Go is more a funk offshoot than this original generation funk, but that 70s style of funk is still played at many parties and clubs even to this day! Most of the rest has faded from style, but around DC you still have 70s style funk singers and horn sections playing every weekend!
Avatar 12:52am
Joe McG:

@Matt: Very cool indeed.
  12:52am
Holly in NC:

Cool cover! Original is all time fave.
Avatar 12:54am
Joe McG:

@Holly: I love the gender switch.
  12:55am
Matt from Springfield:

Was "Wake Up and Make Love with Me" performed by someone else originally, with switched genders?
  12:57am
Holly in NC:

Yes, this guy ;-)
Avatar 12:59am
Joe McG:

@Matt: A big hit for Ian Dury in the UK, I think!
  12:59am
Matt from Springfield:

Sir Ian! Love that guy! ;)
"pub rock", "punk", AND "postpunk"!
  1:00am
Matt from Springfield:

Oh, and hiya Holly! And 12539 if you're still out there!
  1:02am
Matt from Springfield:

WFMU! ALWAYS another reason to be cheerful!!! :)
  1:02am

Btw Joe, your beat matching this set is amazing - you found the gogo in a Brit!
Avatar 1:04am
Joe McG:

Thanks, Holly! If Ian only knew....

Hi Matt. I was falling asleep but Claudja woke me up.

Matt from Springfield:

Kings, Princes and Dukes in reggae, didn't know "King Obstinate" was one of the Kings!

Matt from Springfield:

"Our insurance doesn't COVER it!!!" Score one to societal satire!!!
And a cheer that "pre-existing condition" will be permanently covered in a year from now!
  1:12am
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, this xylophone melody was Liquid Liquid?? I've heard this before, somewhere...didn't realize the "White Lines" backing track people came up with this. Was it used for a PSA anywhere? That melody sounds familiar.
  1:13am
Holly in NC:

This is a close to perfect set, Joe, love the trajectory

Somehow we've gone back to the UK, not sure how!

  1:26am
Matt from Springfield:

Well, at least we got a good cut from Glaswegian Muscles of Joy! :)
And good late-evening there, Julie! :)

Hiya Matt & Holly, and Joe McGee

Joe's made his "bed" in Jamaica tonight!
  1:31am
Holly in NC:

I wish Doug S was listening, we have a running thing about spiders
  1:33am
Matt from Springfield:

Country music and sunshine pop! Works for me!
  1:34am
Matt from Springfield:

Hey Holly, did you know that I'm selling a shower stall *guaranteed* not to have spiders drop in on it? ;D
Avatar 1:37am
Joe McG:

@Holly: I don't get Doug too often, alas. He's having a nice sleep out there in Pittsburgh, I hope!
  1:37am
Matt from Springfield:

Neon Philharmonic!! "Morn-ing Girlllll"
Did you eat your box of Cheeriosssssssss, and powder up your pretty nossssssse? :)
  1:38am
Matt from Springfield:

@Joe: Thanks though for recommending that Korean set to Doug recently, liked that guy!
  1:39am
Julie:

Part of this guy's voice reminds me of Al Stewart
Avatar 1:39am
Joe McG:

@Matt: Doug is my radio idol. Influencing him in any way is a great honor.
Avatar 1:40am
Joe McG:

@Julie: Hi, BTW! And you're right, he DOES sound a bit like Al.
  1:43am
Matt from Springfield:

Al's next all-acoustic tour: playing acoustic guitar and performing late 60s pop ballads, including Neon Philharmonic, Gary Puckett and Cat Stevens!
  1:44am
Holly in NC:

@Matt - if also guarantee no cave crickets leaping out of drain I'll take 2!
  1:44am
Matt from Springfield:

During my week in London I went to Portobello Road's Saturday market--great place to go if you're in London. Very crowded, but you're bound to find something you like there!
  1:46am
Matt from Springfield:

@Holly: Sure, for a monthly cricket-free maintenance fee ;)
  1:46am
Julie:

what about Palmettos?
Avatar 1:46am
Joe McG:

@Matt: I liked it myself when I went, although I didn't see anybody named Leon smiling, at least as far as I know.
  1:47am
Holly in NC:

I really do like the Cars.
  1:49am
Matt from Springfield:

Julie: Whoa! Palmettos, stinkbugs and Junebugs are just a part of Southern life! No one can prevent those!!
  1:51am
northguineahills:

I'm so glad I no longer I have to deal w/ palmetto bugs anymore.
  1:51am
Holly in NC:

No palmettos in bathroom, thank goodness. Slugs, though. How they get in no idea. Will have to start leaving saucers of beer by the commode!
  1:53am
Matt from Springfield:

Hey former Floridian NGH!
@Holly: Don't know if they'll walk into salt, but it sure dissolves slugs!
  1:54am
northguineahills:

Yes, indeedy, I'm Floridian bred.
  1:58am
Matt from Springfield:

Good vocals from Joe Henderson!
(And from somewhat-forgotten Fontella, of course!)
  1:59am
Holly in NC:

@ngh - the palmettos are esp large this year, at least in Durham. Fuckers.
  2:02am
Holly in NC:

When I djd in western MA, highest rated show was Sat am polka show, it was umtouchable
  2:03am
northguineahills:

The really big ones would succumb to a good stomp, you'd have kick them a few times, if they didn't fly away, and then, if successful, you have to deal w/ the sulfur-esque aroma.

I've been having many polka conversations WFMU'ers in the last week, oddly (or not) enough.
  2:04am
Matt from Springfield:

@Holly: And why not? Those fans of that show will listen EVERY week, cause no one else is playin' it!
  2:07am
Matt from Springfield:

NASA is in fact hiring, IF you're a physical scientist--social scientists need not apply (I don't have enough hard science background--then again it's tough to make the astronaut cut, I probably wouldn't make that anyway). But, if you're a physical scientist, in great shape and having great vision, you just might become an astronaut!
  2:08am
Holly in NC:

Who did the lovely vocals on Wanted - didn't catch name, sorry.
  2:08am
Matt from Springfield:

"Rescue Me" B-side!! Thanks Joe!!
  2:13am
KP:

Ambien punk rock?
  2:13am
Brian in UK:

Mornin' Joe, Matt, ngh, Holly.
Hard to believe but I was singing (to myself) Portobello Road last week. Matthew & Son that this single comes from was my first bought album. Paper round money.
Avatar 2:14am
Joe McG:

@KP: Yes, they drive around without remembering where they went listening to the Ramones.
  2:15am
KP:

My Words With Friends sound effects are playing through the radio. Hope that is not too distracting.
  2:16am
KP:

That sounds like 20 of my best years.
Avatar 2:16am

@Brian: Hi, Brian! A fine first album, indeed!
Avatar 2:17am

My first album was "Young and Rich" by the Tubes. I wonder what THAT means!
Avatar 2:18am
Joe McG:

What was everyone's first album?
  2:20am
Holly in NC:

Hi Brian! In these parts kids don't have paper routes anymore - all routes covered by adults, with cars. Sad on several levels.
  2:25am
Holly in NC:

Tough question - K-Tel Dynamite, Donny Osmond, waylon Jennings all in running...and inherited Hello Muddah & Felix the Cat 7ins
  2:25am
KP:

Paul Revere and the Raiders Greatest Hits? That would be a little later on for me but I mostly listened to records at friends' houses.
  2:29am
KP:

One of those friends, the No. 1 one, and I went to see mark Lindsay in city a few years ago. It was fantastic and quite emotional.

These are all great answers!

And as far as lps purchasef FOR me, cruel family made me cry via Puff & terrified me via Snow White. Trauma.

This Bonnie Dobson wrote Morning Dew? Wowzer!
  2:32am

Evening all. Pretty sure mine was BTO's Not Fragile. Still like that one I must say.
Avatar 2:33am
Joe McG:

@KP: Yep, she even rerecorded it on this very album. @Mark: Hey, Mark! You have nothing to be ashamed of.
  2:35am
KP:

I will have to look into that. Awaiting Jade, that will be my second ever album.
  2:36am

I believe BTO's Takin' Care of Business is on K-Tel Dynamite...

And Monica.
  2:50am
KP:

And set up by Joe.
