Favoriting Brian Turner: Playlist from October 9, 2012 Favoriting

Order and disorder in a freeform haze of terribly-played guitars, shorted-out electronics, found audio detritus, strange sounds from strange lands all around. Psych-punk-junk, collage, even pop. Lots of in-studio live performances to boot.

Hiya BT. Hello everyone.

I have finally had my nervous breakdown and heading to hospital. Going to go with my BT T-shirt on.
Avatar 3:03pm
BT:

Hang in there
  3:04pm
Cheri Pi:

Hang in there GMMM! I wore by BT shirt to have a Gay Witch Abortion...
  3:05pm

ok
  3:09pm
dave lazy:

where do i gat a BT shirt?-- things like this happen to me too -- looks like i may need one
  3:13pm
Carmichael:

Never underestimate the power of The Shirt.
  3:17pm

That excerpt makes me want to watch "Spaced" again
  3:17pm
DCE:

never hang around with the bourgeousie or however the fuck you'd attempt to spell that word
  3:17pm
Cheri Pi:

Amateur Taxidermists everywhere swear by the Shirt over the Apron.
  3:18pm
Cheri Pi:

The Shirt is more absorbent...

dcp:

about to start a phone call with one of the most long-windedest, boring, perky fruitpunch woman I know. I'm trying to think of anything to get out of this...
  3:20pm
dcp:

she's been leaving me messages on voicemail and they are ALWAYS at least 3 minutes long. GOOD GOD!
  3:21pm
Cheri Pi:

Dave Lazy-You could probably get one at the NYPD evidence room, it's all over that joint.
  3:22pm
green mountain man mark:

Blue Jays and crows just go nuts in the fall, don't they. They just make all kinds of ridiculous noises up in the sky. And lately, been noticing that crows are making a bunch of noises at about 2:00 in the morning. Crows don't even wait until dawn.
  3:22pm
DCE:

dcp, the best thing to do is just drink a strong cup of coffee and dive into that. it'll be over before you know it.
  3:23pm
DCE:

rip that band-aid off FAST, ya know?
  3:24pm
dcp:

you're right DCE....HEY I'm going to see OFF! next week, WOOO.

DIVORCE, ALRIGHT!!

GMMM: cardinals too in my part of town.
  3:25pm
Woo:

Woodpeckers are hammering the side of the house and cardinals fly into the windows. At least the geese left town.
  3:26pm
Xavi:

hullo everyone. Stumbled across the show by chance while going through Winamp feeds :) perfect timing!

Cheri Pi:

DIVORCE!!!
  3:29pm
SteveL:

Divorce is making my day better. (Which definitely says something about my day!)
  3:29pm
green mountain man mark:

one of our cats brought in a bluejay and it was still alive. I had to give it mercy and chop the bird's head off. The bluejay was just lying on the ground and trying to make the sounds they do. But all raspy and not as loud. So I picked it up and chopped its head off.

I can't believe that jerk took my dinner away -- I was saving that! Bluejays are wrapped like candy bars, I can hardly resist.

I knew some day I'd have a commenter named Mr. Whiskers.
  3:34pm
Woo:

Speaking of taking dinner away, in Chicago news: A Chuck E. Cheese employee is accused of stabbing a woman with a box cutter after an argument about a salad plate. So having a job doesn't solve every problem.
  3:35pm
rob t:

That Divorce track was HOT.
  3:35pm
Carmichael:

We have scrub jays and crows going at it like Crips and Bloods. And on the ground it's the squirrels versus the cats. My dog goes apeshit over the whole scene, so I can't wait until goddamn fall is over and full-fledged winter sets in. I'll finally get some peace and quiet.
  3:36pm
Xavi:

I had to rewind to Cunts in a Circle :)
  3:37pm

as well as this cumbia. nice stuff Brian!
  3:41pm

this dude sounds a bit like peter murphy. is it just me?
  3:42pm
Mike East:

@Woo - do you have a link to that Chuck E Cheese article? My wife recently flipped out on a Chuck E Cheese employee. I'd like to forward this news clip to encourage her to keep her cool.
  3:43pm
Cheri Pi:

I was thinking about Laibach during that intro, maybe just a coincidence but my gothometer was definitely raised.
  3:43pm
EAL:

such an epic solo
  3:44pm
Woo:

Mike, just go to chicagotribune.com and it's on the front page
  3:44pm
Cheri Pi:

More goth bands should have the courage to slip in a wicked solo like that more often.
  3:46pm
PKNY:

I always wondered what My War-era Black Flag would sound like if they went goth. Awesome!
  3:51pm
Mike East:

Ha! Thanks. God Bless America.

Why isn't Pussy Riot the biggest band in the world? They sound great, look great, can't understand a damn word they're saying. They've got it all.

  4:36pm
Cheri Pi:

Yeah!!!!!! I love this guy.
  4:37pm
Cheri Pi:

I want there to be some kind of number I can dial to hear one of their conversations. I'd pay .99 cent per call.
  4:37pm

I knew dudes like this. My favorite was always, 'whose better, Jimmy Page or Al Di Meola'?

love this, BT. I wasn't tripping, I was FLIPPING!!

This "Tight Bros" is begging for mashing with Van Halen solos.

DCE:

it was a bit of a different culture back then....
  4:42pm

It's hard to add hyperbole to an acid trip story, but it's necessary and we all know it ;)

I saw the Doobie Brother on acid. It didn't help.
Avatar 4:45pm

Siltbub, I did not, I bought a boot of Vulcan years ago from FE. I think it's reissued now? Well whoever got it is gonna be messed up.

Hey everyone, may I please interrupt halfway to note that we could sure use a couple o' percentage point jumps on the offair (Silent) Fundraiser total. I think the needle is stuck.
  4:47pm
Siltbub:

Sorry, Doobie Brothers. At one point they morphed into one throbbing, SF party hat choogling entity. Still, no lift.
  4:50pm
Cheri Pi:

I want to see Steely Dan on Acid, no joke...
  4:52pm
Alex:

I just saw you played Byron Black "Car Don't Work" before I tuned in! Great album
  4:54pm
Woo:

Open your wallets!
  4:54pm
Siltbub:

Byron Black is the right brain hybrid of Bowie/Beefheart (Electric Eels being the left brain counter).
  4:55pm
Caryn:

Yes, pledge now, then sit back and relax and order yourself one of those new vodka pizzas and let the music take you away.
  4:56pm
Carmichael:

This song (Bong) is brooding, sulking, plodding, etc .... I love it. Slower and with more emphasis, fellas!

Phil Amendt:

I am staring out my window at a large field of un-cut hay. A brown thrush wings low and disappears into the trees. I am well into my fourth Zima™.

Grinderswitch's Asst. Mgr.:

Y'all just kicked that pledge meter into Brian Turner Overdrive!
  5:10pm
Caryn:

Dammit! Went to make myself a snack and cut myself. Where's a band aid when you need one?
  5:12pm
Caryn:

I always wonder whether Matmos' name is a Barbarella reference or Swedish.
  5:20pm
Bob Geldof:

hah!
  5:20pm
.....:

wuddup i like this stuff
  5:25pm
Caryn:

Not that kind of Band Aid, Geldof! :)

WFMU could do with a Geldof, shouting at listeners, "Give us yer feckin' money!"
  5:36pm
Doyle E.:

We need Phil Collins to Concorde over and perform "Sussudio in the FMU studio.
  5:39pm
Caryn:

Liking Eeliks:en even more after that Robin comment.
