Listener comments!

  11:58am
listener james from westwood:

good wednesday all, and happy scenario day, amanda!
  12:00pm
Brian in UK:

Hello Amanda & James.
James, thanks for writing to Alice with your sage words. I trust she has responded to you?
  12:01pm
SteveL:

I love Amanda too much not to make an additional pledge, (darn it!) No kibble tonight for my pups!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm
Amanda:

Hey James and Brian! And hey SteveL! I'll try to send your pups a bag of Eagle Pack if you donate.
  12:04pm
Brian in UK:

Spencer eats prime filet just in case you are interested, Amanda!!
  12:05pm
SteveL:

My dogs salute you! (Tall, black lab/northern mix and aging, batshit-crazy J Russel.)
  12:05pm
Dervish:

But it's noon till three, ba-bee! Yow!
  12:06pm
Doug S.:

One extremely handsome and thoughtful pledge of $30 will push Amanda's total to 25%. Go go go go!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm
Fiveash:

Whoa! 42%! And that wasn't me making a deatbeat pledge to cook the books either!
  12:14pm
listener james from westwood:

this atomic power cut sounds like something the church of the subgenius would put on one of its old devival tapes. praise "bob"!
  12:15pm
Doug S.:

One extremely handsome and thoughtful pledge of $30 will push Amanda's total to 50%. Go go go go go.
  12:19pm
SteveL:

I dunno, I'd say Fiveash's pledge was darned attractive, but hey, Doug S, you make a good point.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm
Amanda:

Thank you, pledgers, from the cockles of my heart AND the bottom of it! Keep 'em coming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm
Fiveash:

Stop saying swears like cockles and bottom. This is a family show.
  12:27pm
SteveL:

Rainy AND shitty clouds. NOT moving to NJ anytime soon.
  12:28pm
listener james from westwood:

shit's an improvement. we used to have rains of radioactive grubs here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
Fiveash:

SteveL, although I'm fond of taking credit for all sorts of things I haven't done, that wasn't me pledging.
  12:40pm
SteveL:

Fiveash: You are a gentleperson and a scholar.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm
Amanda:

All of you who pledge will be declared handsome. I decree it. Hey, sorry to have to use the S word, but there's really no other way to describe this weather we've been having, AMIRITE
  12:43pm
SteveL:

James: You had radioactive grubs? Oh, how I wish we had those to battle the mutant robins that strip our lawns bare.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm
Amanda:

That is a delightfully Monty Python-like image. Save me from these vicious robins!!!
  12:49pm
Brian in UK:

On the religious theme. Do you have anything by The Cubits?
  12:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hello Amanda and listeners!
Both Leibniz AND Kris Kristofferson have called this "the best of all possible Scenarios"!
  12:54pm
Skirkie:

The Pogo line, "We have met the enemy and he is us." is a take on a quote from the War of 1812, "We have met the enemy, and they are ours." sent in a message after the U.S. victory in the battle of Lake Erie.

northguineahills:

Phew! lost the stream for a few seconds...Thank the time lords it came back.
  12:56pm
Matt from Springfield:

Never heard of this one. We need more girls singing Mötley Crüe songs!
  12:56pm
ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
  12:56pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Had a matter to attend to this morning so my weekly work meeting took place yesterday. As a result I get to listen to the show live this week!
  12:57pm
northguineahills:

Now, where did I put my lighter......?
  12:57pm
Rich Z., Nutley, NJ:

Amanda, I'll have a big crate of 70s/80s metal at the WFMU Record Fair…should I put it aside for you?
  12:57pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Do you need any Night Ranger FLACs?
  1:01pm
Matt from Springfield:

Good version of "Jackson"--kind of like a "Squeeze Box" arrangement.

Hi NDBob, Skirkie and BGZ! Welcome!
  1:07pm
Matt from Springfield:

My literary journal "drops" next Friday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm
Amanda:

@Rich Z -- You'd better let all the others have a crack at it first, since I'll just buy everything that's left. ;-)
  1:15pm
northguineahills:

Cool, Matt, any deets?
  1:18pm
Rich Z., Nutley, NJ:

Amanda, the more you spend at Table E-10 (shameless plug), the more I can spend at the WFMU Tables…see, everybody's a winner!
  1:19pm
Matt from Springfield:

This Nobunny reminds of Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd's "Apples And Oranges".

@NGH: Oh, not actually. Just a joke from Amanda saying you can't be "on" a lit journal like you're "on" a record label! :)
  1:22pm
SteveL:

Rich Z appears to have his Evil Plan in order.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm
Amanda:

Yeah! Come and shop at MY table on Sunday. (Rich and everyone.) (Don't know yet what its coordinates are.)

Hey, Skirkie, belated thanks for the record-setting on that quote. As you guys can see, I get 50% of my world history from cartoons and the other 50% from him.
  1:25pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Special left channel only mono mix???

  1:28pm
Turntable:

[snickers gleefully]
  1:31pm
Skirkie:

I for one will head directly to the Norton table for that one come record fair time.
  1:33pm
Matt from Springfield:

Catherine Irwin's a good singer--brand new!
  1:36pm
SteveL:

Turntable! What do you have to say for yourself?
  1:38pm
Matt from Springfield:

I *only* had my left earphone in at the time, so it was find for me! ;)

Despite the misbehavior from TT#2, you were right to take the chance, Amanda. You can't change your songs and formats just because TT#2 might not cooperate--if you have two vinyls in a row, that is our delight and the record player's problem, not yours!
  1:41pm
Matt from Springfield:

Can't wait until the next installment of "Plucky Young Web DJ"! Though I need to finish this edition first...

Cool Cover!
  1:41pm
SteveL:

HSR? You are increasingly awesome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46pm
Fiveash:

Turntable "number two". Grrr. Just emailed Scott to bitch about it again. Human Sexual Response later morphed into the Zulus who I saw a number of times as an underage Boston malcontent. They had an album on Slash produced by Bob Mould that - same old story- didn't do justice to what a great live band they were. Guitarist Rich Gilbert is now a Nashville hot shot country guitarist.
  1:47pm
Rob:

Play somthing from the Sick City Four/Fulong Split 7 inch!
  1:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks for the backstory, Fiveash!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm
Amanda:

Eh, he just Wikipedia'ed the whole thing and faked it. Here is one more for you Boston malcontents.
  1:51pm
ndbob:

I need to go - thanks for the music Amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm
Amanda:

Yay, thanks for tuning in, ndbob! :-)

DAVID CROSS!!

(Not "yay" that you are leaving, of course.)

one of the best parts of fmu's online RNC counterprogramming in '04 was the chance to broadcast david cross raw & unedited.

CHUDdy Loinseed!
  1:57pm

(sigh) Do you know the way back to San Jose?
  1:58pm
northguineahills:

I love this David Cross routine!
  1:58pm
listener james from westwood:

i miss premiere magazine.
  1:59pm
northguineahills:

I remember listening to this David Cross CD at work that I borrowed and I got no work done.... (this was shortly after it came out).
  2:00pm
Matt from Springfield:

Awesome routine! I need to get that album.
Marianne F!
  2:05pm
northguineahills:

I never understood why I like Pizzicato Five, but I always have. Now, they just remind me of Katamari Damacy.
  2:07pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

Are you going to play The Go-Go's version too?
  2:14pm
listener james from westwood:

@ngh: this video may be relevant to your videogame interests: http://tinyurl.com/8mcgyz8
  2:14pm
Matt from Springfield:

I think that NYC after 9/11 routine was on David Cross' "It's Not Funny", I have that one and I think that track appears on that album. Was it the one where he wonders whether the employees of Las Vegas "New York, New York" Casino felt a sympathetic response after 9/11?
  2:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

It's a "Live"!
  2:15pm
listener james from westwood:

ken freedman played as much as he could of the david cross 9/11 bit back in the day. listened to it w headphones on and still disturbed my coworkers b/c i was laughing so hard.
  2:22pm
Matt from Springfield:

Oh LJFW, speaking of the time machine, I won us some great money by betting on future sports events with advance knowledge! The only issue is...in the future ghost peppers are the main currency. The trick is how to transfer future ghost pepper winnings into cash in the present.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm
Amanda:

I am talking about "Gabriel's gonna do what Gabriel's gonna do." I think he mentioned Vegas also though. Nevermindddd...
  2:25pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Amanda: "My Vmeste! Lyrics by Alisa." To make it simple you could change the title to "My Vmeste!", that seems to be the English transliteration. Or, "Мы вместе" if you want to keep it Cyrillic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm
Amanda:

You didn't like my creative approximation of Cyrillic?

Thanks for the Cyrillic letters anyway -- I changed it. I'm guessing it's a little rude to use English letters to fake an entirely different alphabet.
  2:32pm
SteveL:

Keepin' it Cryllic.
  2:33pm
SteveL:

Uh, just to point out, if someone gives Ms A $15, she'll be at 50%.

Carry on.
  2:34pm
listener james from westwood:

@matt: oh, jeez, i need to redo all my retirement monies for a capiscum-based economy. who do i call, a financial planner or a botanist?
  2:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

Don't be hard on yourself Amanda! It was good, good enough to look up the actual letters!
Anyway I'm just an obsessive completist :)
  2:35pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I can't stand the Russian dubstep act Cyrillex.
  2:39pm
Matt from Springfield:

@LJFW: It probable wouldn't hurt to commission your own potent capiscum now, while demand is still low relative to supply; it will soon be valuable and figure into conversion rates for other peppers. If you want a head start on financial planning for retirement, the brokers HJ Inc. (Habañera-Jalapeno) are the only current traders operating exclusively in peppers. You may want to invest in them as well.

all right, sounds like something to get in on as it sprouts. as long as this isn't gonna turn into the pepper version of bitcoins. don't want to get burned.

Really mixing it tonight or whatever.
Does anybody have any questions?

Top job Amanda.

Stanley:

@Brian - just wait until the 28th
Yo Amanda!
  2:55pm
northguineahills:

Well, I just put some home-grown scotch bonnets in my saffron rice. They have more of kick then the ones I can find at the farmer's market. Almost a little too much. I need to give some of them away.

Hard to trade them in the capsaicin market as they only last a few weeks, unless I turn them into sauces or pickle them.
  2:57pm
listener james from westwood:

scott is a mensch among mensches. the m in wfmu actually stands for mensches.
thanks for the kickass show, amanda!
  2:57pm
Brian in UK:

Gotcha Stanley. Going to Mallory Park that day to see some sidecar racing. Belting!!
  2:58pm
listener james from westwood:

ngh, pickling the peppers would make them into a sort of bond. pays off over time.
  2:58pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I think I heard this version of "Alone Again (Naturally)" at Red Lobster when I was a kid.
  2:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Scott! You saved the Fairport day!

@NGH: Scotch bonnets, traded as "concentrate" in the commodities markets.
  2:58pm
Stanley:

@ ngh - my mouth's burning at this moment, having scoffed a bunch of noodles with fermented black beans and chillies
  2:58pm
Brian in UK:

@ngh we use scotch bonnets in our chili relish. 40 at a time.
  2:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

I remember "Quiz Show"--we watched that for American history in high school.
  2:59pm
listener james from westwood:

if amanda hits her pledge goal, she needs to use the murrow voice for the next available program.
  2:59pm
BadGuyZero (Dallas, TX):

I've never seen "Quiz Show."
  3:00pm
Stanley:

@Brian - I once had a jar of chilli paste that set the smoke alarm off. No kidding.
Mo' later. Bye Amanda, bye all
  3:00pm
listener james from westwood:

and i've never seen "goodbye, and good luck." double feature, perhaps?
  3:00pm
northguineahills:

Hmmm, chili relish, sounds good. My next harvest this weekend will have about another 2 dozen. They are ripening the faster then I can eat them, and they're too hot for the gf.

Quiz Show was awesome!
